@@RNKel1 The Deutschlandlied has exactly that line. It rhymes with "Von der Etsch bis an den Belt" (from the Alto Adige - look out Mussolini - to the Fehmarn Belt up by Denmark.). Younger Germans don't always realise that they only sing verse three, which is the verse that doesn't lay claim to bits of Italy, Austria, France, Belgium, Holland, Poland and Lithuania. Verse two bangs on about German women and wine are the point of life. Shame for the ladies but that's been cancelled, too.

@@thethirdman225 Hitler didn't have any "aims" regarding France. Yes he wanted Elsaß-Lothringen back, but he wasn't going to start a war over it. I never got the “queen is German” comment people make a lot. She was born in Britain, her parents were born in Britain, their parents were also all born in Britain. The most recent German in her line of descent was Victoria’s husband Albert, who was born over 200 years ago now.
@sumrandumguy71772 жыл бұрын
Most englanders have German in their blood anyway (English gene pool historically comprises of northern Germans, Danes, northern Frenchmen, celts, romans, etc). The British isles (England in particular) really was Europe’s melting pot for a very long time. It was like the new world (United States/Canada) before those were discovered. Out of all the British isles, England is the least “pure” ( I don’t mean tht in a racist way btw, just mean it’s a very mixed/busy gene pool, historically)
@MrWolfSnack6 ай бұрын
the Queen is partly German. The House of Windsor is really the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. One hundred years ago this summer, in July 1917, George V issued a proclamation larded with many a “whereas” and “declare” to announce that henceforth all male descendants of Queen Victoria were to be known by the new surname of “Windsor”. George’s cousin, the German Kaiser, remarked that he was looking forward to watching a performance of “The Merry Wives of Saxe-Coburg”. “Windsor” had not been the only possibility: courtiers had toyed with Plantagenet, York, Lancaster, England and even Fitzroy, though “Fitz” usually signified illegitimacy. But Windsor it was, with various German-sounding titles of minor royals being discarded in favour of “Mountbatten”, “Cambridge” or “Milford Haven” and Queen Mary’s younger brother, Prince Alexander of Teck, becoming the Earl of Athlone. During the 19th century, there were so many minor dynasties in Germany that it had become the first port of call for anyone looking for an additional decoration for their coat of arms. Bismarck deemed the Coburgs “the stud farm of Europe” and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha sired from Queen Victoria children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren who would occupy palaces in Greece, Norway, Denmark Russia, Sweden, Romania, Yugoslavia and Spain, as well as Germany.

The Royal family starting with George I. are from the house of Hannover who allegedly didn't even speak english. Most of the following kings and heirs married germans. Even Queen Elizabeth's husband Phillip is of german descend (House Oldenburg)

Yeah, the entire royal family is. They changed their name to Windsor from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha during WW1.

WW1 was really just a pissing contest between cousins. The Czar of Russia, the royals in Britain, and the Kaiser were all related.
