My father was a big fan, and we grew up listening to his music. We didn't appreciate his music at the time, but also became big fans of his singing style. I know most of his songs by heart now, and think about my father when I hear him sing. Wonderful memories.

Listening to Mr. Moody's interview got me to sign in on this site. "Moody's Bues for Love" is one of my favorite tunes to play. It's a gas to hear how this tune came about, direct from the horse's mouth. What a great since of humor he had and great musician he was. I about fell outta my chair when Moody said Vermin said of Mood's solo:"you must have been inspired", and Moody replied "Hell, I was just trying to find the notes". RIP Mr. James Moody; bet you're jammin' in heaven.

WOW!! A true virtuoso improvisation. There isn’t a single note or line out of place. Maybe the best( if not one of) the best be -bop solo’s ever created.

My father only allowed jazz in our home to be played. Now as a child I hated it but one day after listening to this I fail in love with jazz and Moodys Mood for Love. ammons

What is even more amazing is that the great James Moody was hearing impaired! This is when you know he has a true gift to be able to play the way that he played and was hearing impaired. WOW.... No words!

I saw James Moody live at 15 different venues. I took my mother to see him in Boston. He remembered me from Sweet Basil in Greenwich Village, so I introduced my mother. Five years later, my mother and her friend went to see him again. She walked up to him and he said, "Hey Phyllis, how you been." An amazing man, an amazing player, who brought unrelenting joy to all. Unappreciated. Mr. Moody approached life in a special way. He touched all he met. Every one of us have not stopped crying.

Moody referred to a club in Detroit he was to play at during a heavy snowstorm named: The Bluebird, without naming it.Toward the end of this interview, he said: "Clarence Beeks", who was the co-proprietor of the Bluebird.

This interview is priceless. First off the guy had to go to the john and sketched out the arrangement while he was there. I can just picture him sitting on the can working on the chart. "You must have been inspired." "Hell I was trying to find the notes cause I'm playing alto." LOL
