Dowsing is a lie. I lived in Florida and my parents needed a new well. They got a dowser to come out to tell them where to dig. When the dowser was there I laughed at his antics and he challenged me. I told him that Florida is, on average 6 ft above sea level and being there was a large lake 100ft away we could dig anywhere and get water. He claimed there were underground rivers. I pointed to the ground in a place he said there was no water and told my parents to drill there. When the well guy came out he told my parents that they wasted their money. Dowsing is a farce. He drilled in my spot and put the well in, where it has been for 40 years, providing water.

"The only thing you can do and the only person you're going to convince is the younger generation." - this show made me question everything, from religion to ... EVERYTHING. @@lukedominicodonnell2347 Enlighten us Luke... since you've 'done the research'. You can be the first person to discover how the magic wands work and you'll be famous and rich beyond belief. Ever hear of the term Occams Razor ? Perhaps the magic wands don't really work at all and Randi is right, this IS basic science. So go ahead and give us all some big convoluted explanation about the molecules of water attracted by magnetism, throw in the word 'quantum' three or four times. And then after you're theory we can test your claims... And guess whats gunna happen when we test your claims Luke, guess whats gunna happen. We all know what happens when we put dowsers under the microscope. So keep comin' up with those theories of yours. So go ahead Luke... scientifically explain dowsing to the world.

What is amazing is Uri Geller on the tonight show with Johnny Carson. You can find the whole thing on youtube. As Carson consulted Randi, who said "do not let him or anyone from his team touch the props at anytime before the show" As you can guess, Uri shits himself, says he doesn't "feel strong today" you would think that would have been the end of his career, but it actually made him sell out more shows. He is 100% a fraud though. I have also read James' book on him, interesting reading. He could duplicate every trick successfully himself. Apparently, it's not that hard to figure out which jars have the water inside them.

An improvement over this experiment would have been to have an equal number of people who claim no 'psychic gift' to run the same course. That way it would have been obvious that the dowsers have no greater chance than any other person.

@zarasbazaar. Back in the 1980s the father of a friend of mine bought land near Kingaroy, Australia. The friend happened to be there when a dowser was called in by her father to find a spot for a water bore. She was skeptical and tried it herself. She got the much same places as the dowser and he told her that almost anyone can do it. Personally I think that a bore put down almost anywhere will find water.

I don't like the way the results were collated. Instead of whether, on average, the selections were greater than chance as a group, the real question should be whether any one of the dowsers was able to achieve a statistically significant selection. Otherwise any one of them could claim that they failed because of the incompetence of the other dowsers in the study.

Very, very sad. First of all, sad from the point of view of the dowsers. They should know the difference between underground water and totally dead, municipal water pumped through the strait round tubes. This water, municipal water is according to the genius Viktor Schauberger, not only dead but also can be very bad, angry water which has lost all its qualities, and energy which helps dowser to detect it. Dowser is not detecting water, but energy radiating from water. Watch a few of Emoto's experiments with water. Second, to talk about doubting Thomas and the TV team, would be much, much sadder.

It’s so interesting that we just don’t wanna accept reality, that we look for escapes, exceptions, shortcuts.

dowsers are among the most auto-deceptive people out there, they believe in their abilities wholeheartedly and always claim they have almost always have a 100% success rate. Then whenever they are put to the test in proper double-blind tests (and invariably fail) they always come up with some excuse as to why they failed and will still believe in dowsing. Even when you show them how they are fooling themselves they still won't believe dowsing is bullshit or how they cannot do what they claim that they can do they will still go on with dowsing and swear black and blue that it is real. Every time dowsers have been properly tested it has been found to be bullshit.

i dont think its really possible to "prove" to them that it doesnt work, theyre playing pretend so they can come up with any explanation they want in a way a scientist couldnt. its like when youre a kid playing pretend with your friend and every time you "kill" them in a sword fight or whatever they'll say something like "actually i had a forcefield around me this whole time" lmao

@@BlisaBLisa agreed mate, it's called confirmation bias. Here in Australia the government even spent money on studying dowsing (for mining and finding water) getting the best dowsers they could find and testing them, guess what, they all failed. James Randi also tested it and showed how it is BS. He also never gave out his US$ 1 million dollar prize to any dowser.

Getting it right is confirmation of the charlatan's power. Getting it wrong is even stronger confirmation of the charlatan's power. That is a truly incredible defense mechanism.

so, it said there was 20% success against 10% random chance when checking for water. that seems statistically significant, doesn't it? any more info on that?
