Hello. Thank you so much for the informative video. I have been making all of my challahs 6 braids now. I do have 1 question - you mention something about doing 2 egg washes. Besides the last minute egg wash right before it goes into the oven, when is the first wash supposed to be?
@ginadavis7039
@ginadavis7039 Жыл бұрын
Hi..the first wash is soon after it's been braided and put in the pan to rise before baking...then right before you bake it you do the second eggwash!happy baking

@@jamiegeller what is your experience with different types of yeasts and brands? Any preferences? I just bought SAF Gold and used it a few times for challah but I'm not sure I saw any improvement in my doughs. As per King Arthur, I thought it would make a visible difference.

Nice but why do you video this work upside down for the viewer? All of your videos are like this. I had to stand up in front of my computer and turn my head upside down to watch how the pieces should be placed in front of me the way they are in front of him. In the end I was able to get it done correctly, but it made learning a complicated art pretty confusing.

How do you get such a glossy, easy to handle dough? Mine looked rough
@jamiegeller
@jamiegeller 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe more kneading or more resting of the dough.

I am confused about the egg wash thing, u say u will go into detail later, and then the video ends. So when do u explain it??
@tom_something
@tom_something 5 жыл бұрын
I think he meant that during this first egg wash, when the dough is firm, he can use the brush to go into the "details", or the hard-to-reach spots between the braids. The second egg wash is probably right before it goes in the oven. During that second one, because the dough is full of air, he'll have to be a lot more gentle, and trying to get into the "details" could damage the dough.

Your egg wash looks like from whites only...is it..thought you do a whole egg to get them shiny.
@jamiegeller
@jamiegeller 4 жыл бұрын
The egg whites alone with make it shiny, the yolk gives it more color, just depends what you prefer.

No, my gosh. this is supposed to be an explainer video not some rom com between a baker and his lovely apprentice. Shoot down directly at the challa and don't move the camera, or shoot over the baker's shoulder but don't cut the shot. Instead this video cuts between unnecessary glam shots of the actors and on the opposite side of the table. Grrr.

Just came from _Frum It Up._ They sing a little song, _"Second (strand) to the top, first one to the middle (in the center)"_ to the tune of, "Row, row, row your boat". You do that once going left to right, then from right to left. Or vice versa; just as long as you alternate sides with each turn. 😊 It makes more sense if you re-watch it with that in mind. It helped me, anyway.
