The broccoli stalk is much nicer than the florets in my opinion. Its sad so many people throw it away. I'm pretty sure it was a Jamie recipe years ago that made me eat it so thanks Jamie for that and so many things. You're my fave

I think its delicious alongside the florets, but if eating it as it is doesn't appeal, you can always add the stalk to a stock for its flavour and nutrients, or grate it up in a salad or a coleslaw. I've never thrown it out.

A word of warning to people following this recipe, at 3:25 Jamie puts the dish over the burner to heat up the water, DO NOT DO THIS if you have a ceramic baking tray and an electric hot plate, My wife did this last night and the ceramic dish cracked, the rice water ran down and into the oven. This has now ruined our oven (100% broken needs to be replaced) and turned a 'simple' 1 pot meal into a massive clean up, and ended up resulting in us using about 5 dishes and a pretty bad meal.

I started out using a Pyrex Casserole dish. I had a feeling it wasn't to be used on the stove top. I peered at the dish and read but to use on stove top. So I switched to my broiler pan.

I did it and it was pretty good, the flavours were great, but the rice didn't cook in that amount of time. I left it for a bit longer but only took it to 25 mins as I didn't want to overcook it, and it still wasn't cooked. Next time I'd put in the rice by itself into the oven for 15 mins and then add the chicken and broccoli for the remaining 15.

I just want to say I love Jamie Oliver and I cooked this recipe tonight to the letter and my rice was still raw, so put back in the oven covered with foil for another 20 mins with a little more liquid came out so so, and my partner and I didn’t mind it but my kids who are 20 & 22 weren’t lovers of this recipe, so don’t know wether the miso paste is different from Uk to Australia but wasn’t a hit in my household, which was a shame cause a 1 pan meal in 40 minutes is a winner in any household, would love to hear other peoples thoughts, disappointed ☹️

Hello @Jamie Oliver, I once learned to cover my wooden cutting board with a thin layer of neutral vegetable oil once in a while, in order to seal the pores and thus prevent odors from settling into the wood. However, it seems you don't do it and I'm beginning to get a clue of why oiling a cutting board is not a good idea at the end. Of course vegetable oil becomes rancid with time and this is what's currently happening on my cutting board. Well it was expensive and so I think I'm going to grind off that pesky layer. Your thoughts?

Extra virgin olive oil is unnecessary because the flavour is I think too weak. If you want to add oil , still unnecessary, sesame oil perhaps? Also you should use rice vinegar if you find it in your local grocery stores. British junk food again but if a Spanish or French tried this dish and liked it, I would try it 😂
