Huge improvement. a wet vac of the carpets after the drill brush is the only extra step I do. Also nail varnish remover will shrivel up that rubber coating and make it east to remove for wrapping or repainting.

Just a heads up for the future. Magic eraser is far too aggressive for leather. It removes the protective clear coat pretty much immediately. Leather is actually painted just like exterior paint. The clear coat is what keeps the leather looking matte.

So in your opinion what can be done to restore that leather clear coat? My seats are all in decent condition for their age, no major cracks. all of the seats but the drivers seats are kinda dry… would like to save them before having to replace the leather a few years down the road.
@kdawson52 жыл бұрын
@@TheBaccaClench It basically requires them to be sanded down, resprayed with color and clear. I highly recommend Colourlock products for this. If you’re looking for a super easy DIY product you can check out their “Leather Fresh” to touch up spots. Their cleaners are also gentle but effective. And no I don’t work for them haha. Just really impressed with their stuff.
@TheBaccaClench2 жыл бұрын
@@kdawson5 now you said diy to touch up spots. Is there a DIY to basically redo the whole seat but also not come off on my clothes?
@kdawson52 жыл бұрын
@@TheBaccaClench The proper way is with a spray gun. Basically you sand, clean, spray color, dry with heat gun then the same with the clear. You add a hardener to both coats. It’s 100% the same process as your seats were done at the factory. Just done by machines. So no worries about color coming off.
@maqywhaq2 жыл бұрын
The sticky finish is oxidization of the coating. Fresh, it creates a soft kind of silicone feel(computer mice from Logitech has that, a lot of late 90s, early 00's gaming peripherals to). Depending on the formulation, you can use bleach or peroxide to bring it back, but as you're forced to grind off the tabs anyway, may as well as just replace them.

Hey quick comment! Melamine sponges (magic erasers) are abrasive, so be careful around glossy sensitive surfaces! I saw some swirl patterns on some of the glossy interior trim that might have been introduced with the sponges. The car looks amazing though! Great job. I love the 1 product method.
@JamiesGarage12 жыл бұрын
I noticed those swirls in the wood trim too, I’ll make sure to keep the erasers away from them for now on. Thanks!

Jamie, great job!!! I will say, I think the most valuable technique to cleaning a car’s interior is just not getting it dirty to begin with. Spilled drinks and food debris make an interior disgusting in a hurry, and then cleaning is a huge job. I don’t do much as clean my car as dust it. 😉 BTW, be VERY careful with those Magic Erasers!!! Most people don’t know it, but they are abrasive and continued use can remove finishes. I threw ours away. I’d rather spend a little more elbow grease than damage something permanently. So true about dirty steering wheels and touch points! Mostly just requires periodic light cleaning with a mild detergent or leather cleaner. Looking good sir!!! 👍

Great video Jamie. When I bought my wife’s 2011 328i it was so dirty inside from dog hair and makeup spilled drinks and only God knows what else. I spent 3 hours on the steering wheel alone. All total I spent about 5 days cleaning it but it was so worth it. Practically looks almost new.

Everyone has "their way" but the easiest (and less messy) way of removing those plastic welds is to just drill them out. Same way you do a rivet. Just drill the middle, and the head will shear right off. Usually on your drill bit. Also wanted to give you props. I too work on these cars for a living, and can tell you, your attention to detail is up there. Good stuff. I subbed. 🤌🏽

I've worked at a few dealerships as a parts guy. At one of them all the parts/service staff had to go to the recon bay and get trained on detailing a vehicle. At that point I decided two things: 1. A good interior detailer is worth their weight in gold. 2. It's not a job for me and I've happily paid someone else to have it done.
