Tips for small transguys: Don't be ashamed to buy from the boys' section! I'm 18 and very small (5ft3) and I fit in age 11-12 jeans from H&M because I can't fit into men's jeans (always so baggy- even skinny ones) and I don't want to buy women's jeans because fake pockets are gross. They're generally cheaper too as they have no VAT. :)

As a teen, I wore “men’s” trousers for as long as I possibly could until the rueful day when my hips had gotten so wide I couldn’t zip them up anymore. For me the problem isn't where I buy the jeans, but the fact that I have wide hips. I am not even trans, but i'm pretty dysphoric about my body. I'm too young to know if i'm trans, or if my "dysphoria" is just part of hormonal imbalances.

Some nice tips from a transmale: If you have 'thicc thighs' don't be worried people. Just find some noice jeans you like. Also here's a good tip if you DON'T want to enter the changing room: If it's jeans put the sides part of the trousers on your hips. If they fit perfectly across then get a size bigger. You can put on a belt but you can't widen trousers. Wear belts. But wear belt you can buy from the men's section. It'll actually give you a more masculine look. Black and plaid clothes are you friends. Black hides curves and plaid hides bumps. During the summer I wear a black t-shirt with a red and black plaid shirt over it and it helps me pass so much better. Find a mens cut that suits your face shape. Otherwise it won't look nice. Get men's deodorant if you want. It'll also help you pass better but get one YOU like. You're only here to impress yourself. That's some nice tips from a transmale.

Also tip that I just discovered myself, for jeans/pants/trousers if you have some thighy legs go for "relaxed" or "athletic" fits and they'll have the room you need. I recently started to lose weight again and wanted to see if I could go back into "men's" pants after like 6 years so I'm not sure how long these new pant types have been around but they're made for more muscular types so it works out great. Hope this helps anyone who also didn't know these styles existed. Quick edit, for the "athletic" fit it seems (at least on the pants/trousers I've tried) they have more space in the thighs themselves and the legs are regular semi not too tight, not too loose fitting. While "relaxed" has room in both the thighs and legs. Also excuse the username (had it since I was a kid and can't find things not already taken), still figuring things out and enjoying just being able to finally look and dress the way I always wanted at the moment, but probably non-binary with a love for masculine clothing....if only I could get rid of this chest....
@dandylion27753 жыл бұрын
@@KoalaBeAsh hi! For chest, Jamie's tips are great, but you could look into binders---mine is from gc2b but I've heard wonderful things about Underworks as well. If you're closeted to your parents, you could tell them you want a binder for either a) cosplaying or b) (if in high school or above particularly) for hiding your chest from males because their attention makes you uncomfortable, so you're doing it to protect yourself. Look into ones you'd like beforehand, MEASURE YOUR CHEST (otherwise the binder may be too tight/too loose), and send them a link to the specific one you want; it helps if the description of it doesn't have "trans" or "transgender" in it but if your parents don't know what ftm is and it's in the description just come up with a fake meaning.

I might have some of the weirdest fat distribution I've ever seen... but if people are struggling with their neck feeling to "dainty", collars and hoods can really add a bit of bulk. Though at the same time, baseball shirts really do wonders for shoulders - and I think it's because they often seem designed to be tight on the arms but not the chest to accentuate arm muscles.

At the moment being pre transition everything and also a larger human being, i don't even pass most of the time so clothes shopping thats not online is a time for me, but i will still get 'womens' jeans because actually i find that if you are like me and you maybe have some unwanted curves, getting trousers (especially) from the women's section helps in finding ones that fit properly and are comfy, and also if you are just going for a simple blue or black pair like me they really look no different than any other pair of jeans. I have essentially learnt that it doesn't matter where your clothes come from as long as you are comfortable in them :))

This is what I've gathered from various articles: Jeans- Flat fronted Not tapered to the ankle Not skintight or too baggy (pinch fabric in back or thigh and look for about an inch) Maximize inseam length Slim fit or slim-straight fit are good first bets Shirts- No symmetrical patterns Snug in the arms and shoulders Loose but not oversized waist Vertical or diagonal stripes, never horizontal If casual, length should be about 2" lower than waist of pants Shoes: Avoid square toed Go for pointed or rounded toe Boots are generally more masc It's different for everyone but I hope these might help :)

As an american, I want to add (and I apologize if someone has already said this) that most "western" stores, or farm supply stores that sell clothes will have a HUGE wall of straight and boot cut jeans that come in a massive variety of sizes. They also tend to not have separate dressing rooms for men and women in my experience. I'm 5'4" with a 30in waist, and I rarely have trouble finding pants that fit. They do tend to be a bit on the pricier side, but they're also made for hard physical labor and will last *forever*.

other honorable mentions include: - black clothing bc it hides the shadows that can form around your chest area - get shoes that are half a size too big then j wear big socks - instead of flip flop type sandals get more of the slide ones - get a thicker belt because guys tend to wear those more - wearing lower cut jeans can make your waist look lower down which gives you a more masculine silhouette

-Black basketball shorts that end just above your knees are your friend. The way they hang and the dark color minimize the shape of your bum and hips. Bonus points if you have any amount of leg hair. -Darker colors visually shrink, while paler colors visually enlarge. A black tank shirt will make your chest look smaller and your shoulders look bigger, especially if your skin is particularly pale. -Vertical stripes make you look taller and skinnier, horizontal stripes make you look shorter and thicker, and plaids and checkers are your best friend. The lines break up any curves they may fall over, increase the boxiness of your shape impression, and can stretch you out a bit if you're self conscious about your height. -Sleeves that are loose (but not baggy) and end right at your wrist OR your elbow are great. They make your arms look longer and increase your visual height by extension, and a properly fitting half or rolled sleeve can make your forearms look thicker. Short sleeves and overly long sleeves that go past your wrist can have the opposite affect, so if you can't find shirts the right length, learn a good sleeve roll technique. -Sunglasses are great, especially if you get a cheap dollar store pair that has those irridescent lenses and are shaped like a dudebro designed them.

I have to admit I think learning to sew is the biggest game changer, especially if you're short with bigger hips. I don't bother with adult men's trousers any more, I buy boys' plus size and tailor down the waist. It's an easier modification than it seems. Unpick the waistband, pin in the side and back seams to account for rise, shorten the band with a new center back seam, and reattach. (If there's any concerns about this making curves look more prominent, nothing makes your butt look bigger than it really is like a gaping waistband.)

If there’s anyone watching this video that is heavy chested, and doesnt have a binder yet, i wouldn’t recommend baggy hoodies or baggy crewneck sweaters. i used to wear them all the time, and they barely worked, on top of not being very- idk- suitable. i never found they really looked good on me. if you want to go for a hoodie i’d say a zip up would be your best bet. also- if your heavy chested my favourite tip is to tuck in your shirt, and loosen it just enough so that it lays flat- or just draws your attention away from your chest.

If you have a men's consignment store in your area (or a good thrift store, if you can handle them), it can be a great way to try on a variety of brands and styles. I've been able to find lots of nice dress shirts, jeans, cardigans, and even a great pair of suspenders at my local men's consignment store, and it has really helped in figuring out what brands are cut in a way that fits well in both my chest and shoulders and what sizes and cuts of jeans I prefer. Usually, you can't return things, so braving the fitting rooms is required, but the variety and reasonable prices are worth it.

yes! About the changing rooms... I always feel like a perv if I (a female) are going to walk into the mens. I stop myself but sometimes, you see, I shop in that area. I like the fit of the pants better and some of the shirts. Especially when I'm looking for more traditionally masculine clothing. I hate then taking that "male" clothing to the women's side and having to show the attendant what clothes I'm taking in... I usually get a confused face or questioned if I know I'm going to try on male clothing. It's not always prominent by the cuts.. but the tags will say "for men" or have a brand ONLY placed in the men's section...

Open your throat when you speak. Listen to other/lighter men's voices and try to sound as realistic as those. Do voice training; speak to yourself at night or try even singing in that voice.
@midnightfedora6 жыл бұрын
Practice your voice by recording it and listening to it that way- I've found it's helped a lot with understanding that my voice isn't really as high as I keep thinking it is, and that from an outside perspective it probably isn't too bad. It also helps to make sure you're not lowering your voice too much, because you have to be insanely careful when doing it. It's super easy to wreck your voice by pitching it down, so having a way to know when to bring it up is helpful
@anix80476 жыл бұрын
If you do manage to lower your pitch, focus on speaking from your throat and chest rather than your face. No matter how low your pitch is, more nasally voices tend to get read as female, and higher-pitched voices can still be read as male if they're throat voices rather than face voices.

as a transmasc that is also very short (5’2) i found that rue21 has men’s jeans that actually fit me? like the only men’s pants or shorts that have really ever fit me, and even then it the length and width the jeans were weren’t the ones that I measured. so it’s really good to try things out, just go places and try stuff on that is closer to your measurements because it’s possible that the store’s sizing is wonky

Something that helps me a lot is wearing kind of loose gym pants and a crop top to my hip hop lessons. I have a black sports bra with no cups and when my shirt comes up while I dance, it looks like I’m wearing a binder. I don’t know why, but this kind of helps me. (Still can’t wait to replace my bra with an actuall binder, though).

Finding a comfortable belt was my biggest breakthrough. Wearing a belt makes me feel so much better about how I look. I started out with a plastic-y one that dug into my hips and just felt uncomfortable, and thought I didn't like belts, but I changed my mind when I tried canvas or genuine leather ones.

My absolute favorite style of jeans is American Eagle's slim straight jeans! They are slightly stretchy and fit really well around your hips and thighs. I usually wear those, black t shirts, plaid button ups as jackets, and Vans Hi Tops, as well as a binder and a packer. Pro tip? Put a wallet in your back pocket. Vans sells some really nice ones, they are checkered, hella masculine. If you are in school, black backpacks are an awesome way to merge coolness and masculinity into one thing. Go for neutral colors, avoid designs on t-shirts, and stick to darker colored t-shirts. Jeans are the best kind of bottom, I prefer acid washed and ripped jeans, they help draw attention away from the actual shape of my legs and hips, and dark colors don't show lumps or curves super easily. If you have a phone or computer, a dark, minimalistic phone case or laptop case is always a safe bet. For the most part, unless you have a packer or STP, avoid gray sweatpants, it's a clear sign that nothing is there. When you get haircuts, look at styles that have short sides and long tops, or buzz cuts. As long as the sides are short, it's obvious you are a guy. Another thing I've tried that has worked wonders for me, I am a bit chubby and round, if you want to make your face look more angled and masculine, I've found that septum piercings or a notch in an eyebrow does the trick. In the age of COVID, black masks are your BEST friend. Good luck!

@morganstiefvater20197 жыл бұрын
One thing with pants to make hips look less noticeable is to not belt around your waist. Buckle your belt around the widest part of your hips, because it makes it less obvious that your waist goes in further up.

I used to wear bootcut jeans EXCLUSIVELY because that's just the only cut I thought worked on me. Then I started wearing straight, because they didnt have my size in bootcut, and JESUS the amount of hip dysphoria that fixed. Bootcut would exaggerate my hips and thighs somehow which straight dont. Also, the reason I live in flannel type shirts is because I have pretty broad shoulders but an obvious waist, so if the shirt is baggy it just falls past my waist and makes me look square

Personally I find v-necks work better for me; not a deep v-neck, but still a v-neck. This is only because I use a gc2b binder and I find a v-neck follows the line of the neck of my binder better, whereas crew necks come a bit too high, so the line of the binder neck shows a bit. I think it's trial-and-error though really, and depends on various factors!
@tepe93696 жыл бұрын
i find v necks draw direct attention to my chest. maybe its bc i'm already naturally pretty flat, but v necks always make an arrow kinda shape on me and it doesnt work haha glad they work for you though! i find a lot of shirts that are v necked and cant wear em lol

Another big tip is if you want to look taller, or at least draw attention away from your lack of tallness: avoid pants with a short inseam, so like baggy pants with lower crotches (cargo pants, cargo shorts, baggy jeans) and lean more into the pants with longer inseams like skinny or slim fit jeans. high waisted jeans can also lend to making you look taller but they also generally draw attention to your hips so its a gamble there. tl;dr: baggy pants with low crotches make the figure short, slimmer pants make the figure tall because inseam length

Well, I was hoping for more of a demonstration of styles, rather than just description. Visuals are usually more useful for folks, in my experience. Can spark their imaginations, too. I'm not sure what your friend circle is like, but perhaps you could try doing a vid like this again, but as a demo with them? Get some folks together who are a variety of sizes from skinny to pudge, short to taller, and have them bring some of their fave clothes that they look fab in and do a bit of a fashion show. If you know any other trans-guy youtubers who might find it a fun idea, maybe do a fashion tips vid with them teleconference style. Or, collaborate to edit clips together of your tips and ideas. Maybe even do them both together with your friends and the KZbin folks (or maybe they're your friends, too--I have no idea). :-)
