Kinda funny little story: Before I came out I went to a concert with my grandpa. During an intermission while the next band was getting ready to go on stage we went to the little ‘food stand’. The lady gave me and my grandpa all we asked and payed for and she says “Is that all sir” to me. I look at my grandpa to see his reaction and he looks confused -being he had no idea- then back at her. She asked “Did I get it right?” and in my head I’m screaming “SAY YES YOU IDIOT” so I do so! She smiled and nodded and says “Okay thank you, have a nice night sirs” and I walk off with my grandpa and he legit said NOTHING BAD AT ALL! So, yeah, needless to say I’m surprised and proud of my grandpa. Love your videos btw, they’re extremely funny keep it up! :)

A similar thing happened to me as well! This was with one of my mates, we were in a shop and i was looking particularly androgynous that day, we had a problem and the cashier said "this kids card isnt working they think its their bank" and i was like *yes! She said they!!* I managed to stop my freind corecting her in time by saying "im gender fluid" in his ear And thats how i came out lol

Awkward thing: when you know you are trans but you are not out. And someone calls you a guy or a man. And people you know, like friends and family are like looking at you, like are you going to correct them. And inside you are all like yes I pass. Double awkward when the above happens and your mom almost screams NOOOO IT'S A GIRL!!!! And then you feel all ashamed and want to dissappear.

This is way too true. I hate this. So I have a name that doesn't actually sound that feminine but definitely sounds not masculine. So one time I was on a field trip for band and one of the student teachers talked to me afterward. They asked where I got my name, was it from Ireland? I said no, it's just a name. But then one of my classmates took him aside for a moment. And I could hear them whispering "she's a girl" . And then he came over and apologized at least three times. Whyyyyyy

Actually, yeah. Relatable. I was at the thrift store and Men's pants are different price from women's pants. It's the kind of store where there aren't tags but sections with pricing. The lady rang up my men's pants from the men's section and my mom stops her and goes "oh, those are women's pants for my youngest *daughter*." Cashier apologized and priced them differently , even though they were an entire two dollars more.

Well, the pronouns can be akward, but imagine living in the country where the language genders you in EVERY senetence. E.g. "Did you go to the shop today?" BAM, gendered. Very different grammar for men and women. So as an ally, you literally need to focus in each sentence not to mess up while talking to your trans friend. You English speaking folks are quite lucky.

Hey. I started transitioning late in life, at the age of 32. This is because I am from South Africa and transgender rights and health care is close to non-existent, unless you have a lot of money to go private. Anyways, my awkward story is this..... I completed my degrees first, the first being a paramedic and then an honors degree in nursing, I am working as a registered nurse.The respectful way to address a female RN in SA is sister. I work in a clinic in a rural area and education levels are shockingly poor, so my patient's don't understand why their sister is becoming a mister. Its funny and awkward. But I am openly trans so I educate as far as I can.

@TheRosemaryWest 6 жыл бұрын
That's so interesting, I live in South Africa and to be honest I haven't heard much about "trans stuff", as in anyone around me transitioning etc, so I'm not surprised to find out that the transgender care isn't very available over here,
@jasondismore4112
@jasondismore4112 6 жыл бұрын
Yes well as you well know health care in SA is bad unless you have a great medical aid. And transgender care such as the various types of operations are not included. So it's something one must save up for and pay cash. The only government hospital that recognises trans people in SA is in Cape Town and there's a 25 year waiting list. I'm currently saving up for top surgery which is over R60000.

For awkward stories, I go to a small town university and there’s actually a lot of AFAB trans individuals here, but the general populace isn’t aware because the other folks were post-T when applying and had their everything changed. I’m pre-T and it’s lead to some amusing situations. “Wait... how old are you?” has been a common one, I’m only 5’2” so everybody thinks I’m a genius twelve year old. I was also a camp counsellor and everybody thought I was one of the 8 year old campers once (just tall for my age). I can’t wait to get my residents comments as an RA next year lol

I had to literally run around at work to take prices, when our system went down. About half an hour in, I noticed my packer making its way down my pant leg. Literally the only time I've been grateful for having think thighs, or it probably would have made its way to my feet and I would have flung it across the store while running. As it was, it ended up looking like I had some weird, willy-shaped lump growing out of my thigh. So that was fun!

When I'm at school I hear people talking about me like directly behind me "is that a girl or a boy?". Generally I turn round and tell them I'm a boy (I'm nonbinary but it's just easier to say I'm a guy), but then when they see me they say something along the lines of "no you're not you look and sound like a girl". I've had people squatting on the floor to look at my face to decide whether I'm a guy or a girl and looking so proud of themselves when they 'realise I'm a girl'

INteresting. I ain't trans. So I don't understand fully. It would be at least supportive, even if errors to introduce you in the way you wish to. But it is interesting how much is this also down to his identity, that part of this is defined in how he relates to people around him. You say you are only 2 months on T, early day. I don't know his age he has to want to change his identity and maybe a different rate. These must be massive challenges to cross.

The owner referred to us as girls, quickly looked up at me as if about to apologise to me after realising I'm actually a guy and then goes "yeah, girls" while looking proud that he said it 'correctly' the first time. There was this one time where we split up boys vs girls for this game (it didn't end up working out as there weren't even teams and so there were some girls on my team) I don't identify as fully male, but since I feel mostly male I went over to the guys side and this other girl who'd known me since before grabbed my arm and said, "birth name, what are you doing? This is the guys side" and I just looked at her, pulled my arm away and said, "it's Simon and I know where I stand" but anyways ive had other awkward experiences and the showers are always a huge issue and it all kind a sucks but if anyone gives me crap I just challenge them to a race and when I win (I always do) I explain to them why they are wrong and need to respect me.

About being introduced with your birthname and female pronouns: My mom was visiting from Hawaii and so I brought her to the local food carts near my high school. Since I'm part of the drama department, a large range of kids are included (some of which are in middle school, and I'm actually quite close to one). We ran into my friend, and I was talking to him before my mom goes "Oh, I'm ----'s mom". My friend pauses and looks around because he knows me as Caden and he just goes "who?" before I kinda laughed and told him that that was her nickname for me. >////< I'm out to my mom, but she's still working on the name and pronouns, and I think it was more embarrassing for her than me

introductions with the incorrect name and pronouns is the worst for me because I pass really well for a trans guys who's pre T (my voice is low, my chest is pretty flat, I'm tall). And then my parents (who don't accept me) will say "this is [dead name], my daughter." What's worse for me though is when my school uses my deadname. I got my name changed on the register, but for some reason they still use it on some things where it's not necessary. Like, a teacher was reading out our times for mock interviews and used my dead name in front of the whole class... What's worse is that most of my class didn't know my dead name (the exception being my friends) so they were like "who's that? Isn't that Kovus place on the register"

I can relate to so many of these! Swimming pre t with friends who understand and trying to have fun but getting looks from everyone else was an awful experience. Also, I feel like having a boyfriend as a transguy makes things a lot more awkward. I passed pretty well pre t and even when I talked, some people would still stay with "he" but as soon as I said I had a boyfriend, they would immediately switch and apologize, which was frustrating and awkward when I had to explain to them that sexuality and gender are separate. Whats even more awkward is that my boyfriend's parents still refer to me by my birth name and as "she" when we're in public, even though its been 4 years since I came out and I now have a beard...

It is not weird. I know a trans person who let everyone know their actual gender as soon as they got old enough to be able to formulate it into a sentence, 4 years old (and before that they always wanted the clothes that people of their gender usually use).

Jamie, I always enjoy seeing you on KZbin. I notice a lot of social media's "popular" trans guys tend to look very similar to each other, a look that I don't really like for myself. I started to get concerned that transitioning would mean looking like one of them (not in a bad way, their look just isn't mine)! However you look perfectly like yourself and not necessarily like the usual social media trans guys that tend to get a lot of attention and exposure. It really helps ease my anxiety about transitioning, because I know I will still look like me, but a truer and more grown version of myself.

I had a funny moment once where I was working and a team member was there with his two little boys. The little boys were giggling and giving me looks and one of them finally asked me if I was a girl or a boy. They were at that kind of age where they start getting cheeky I guess. Their dad said something like “Oi, that’s not a nice thing to say”. Little did they know, I’m nonbinary and had mad euphoria 😂

i've been little over 2 years on t, but i am extremely short and also super andogynous. I cannot grow facial hair and i do like androgynous fashion a lot. Combine that with being super short (but not having dwarfirsm) and i look just like a kid. Now, kids can be super andgrogynous as well right? so people often just have no idea what i am. I can get badly triggered (with suicidal thoughts and panic attacks) when misgendered so this is an issue for me, but can't really help it haha and i know people don't try to be mean mostly but yeah it sucks.

I have a shorehouse, I got top surgery two days ago, so for the last summer and the summer before hand I would swim while binding. I didn’t pack while swimming though because I didn’t have a real packer but even if I did I would not want risk losing it especially since I swam in the ocean. Swimming while binding sucks because your binder always moves while swimming and it’s impossible to fix and when your shirt is wet it sticks to your skin and ugh so awkward! Can’t wait to swim without binding next summer

Swimming pre top surgery - I'm pre top surgery and I've been out for 7 years but I've only been swimming once since coming out and that was when I went with an LGBT+ Youth group I was with, we had a pool totally closed off just for us for the time we went and it was the best feeling , to just be able to swim around knowing no-one was gonna judge me for having a large chest and wearing just a binder. It was amazing. This was last summer. Probably the one and only time this will happen for me as I'm no longer with that group. I love your videos btw. Also to anyone reading this comment who is LGBT+ ; I recommend joining an LGBT+ support group in your area to make friends and have a support network around you know can understand what your going through, it really can make a difference. When I started wearing packers about a year ago, (I didn't have a strap) I was walking down the street when my packer stated to move. I didn't notice too much as I thought that was just what it did. I then got talking to one of my old friends explaining about being trans. when I walked away, my packer fell out of my trouser leg onto the street where everyone could see. I quickly grabbed it and instinctively put in back into my boxers in front of everyone. people were staring at me so confused like "that boys peen just fell off". I ran to my youth center in tears and explained the hole thing. I was so embarrassed. they called my mum who came and took me home. looking back it's funny but at the time it was horrible.

omg the whole girls school thing is a MOOD and so painful, my school had 'for girls' in it too. Luckily it was joined to a boys school next door but i've never felt able to say i went there. and despite having moved to a completely diffferent area I've still run into people i went to school with and they misgender me so much ;w; phone conversations are so awkward too, when all someone knows about you is your voice and constantly calls you ma'am or miss.

I just bought my first binder and will only wear it specifically for swimming. I plan to wear it under a UV shirt because I'm pale AF and have ALWAYS worn a shirt while swimming and always will even post top surgery. I'm small enough otherwise that a slightly tight undershirt and a fitted woven button up conceal most of my chest. And I'd rather not get used to binding anyway, so that I can keep skin elasticity for better surgery results. I've been dealing with these lumps for 20 years now, so what's another 2-3 without regular binding. *shrug* As for packers? No. Just no. A big blob of silicon or whatever polymer or even a sock shoved down my pants is the strangest feeling to me personally. I'm with Jamie on this.
