Im lesbian, and when I came out to my dad when I was 16, his response was that I spent too much time on the internet and specifically tiktok. He was a joe roagan listener at the time but has since slowly distanced himself from the alt right rabbit hole. I think his response to my initial coming out just flipped a propaganda switch in his head that ppl like roagan helped reinforce. Whether a felony removes your right to vote varies by state. In some states, you can vote even from prison. In others, your voting rights are restored after you have served your time. In others, they can be restored but you have to put in an application. And yes, there are places where being convicted of a felony removes your right to vote entirely. Also, the Constitution deliberately does not prevent felons from running or holding office. Remember, many of the Founding Fathers had been convicted (under English law) of insurrection. The signing of the Declaration of Independence was supposedly accompanied by the phrase, "“We must all hang together or we will all hang separately”. If the revolution had not succeeded, most of them would have been jailed or executed.

Not only have I never once had a TikTok account, but I grew up in a highly religious country where there is no trans community whatsoever. I didnt even know what being trans is until I was 18. But despite that, ever since I was a child, ever since I could understand the basic concept of boys and girls being different in some at the time unknowable way, I knew I was born in the wrong body. I knew I was a girl, even back then. So in a complete vacuum of transness, where there was no trans community, in an era before social media entirely, I knew that I was and am trans. I am living proof that the social contagion hypothesis is nonsense.

Heck I called puberty torture and said it should be made illegal, which of course only got me laughed at and told I was acting childish (I know, shocker, a 10 year old child was acting childish). I started puberty about 6 years before I learned trans people existed. I had dreams about getting breast cancer because I thought that was the only way I'd be able to get rid of my chest I so deeply hate. Like multiple times a week dream. This is first hand experience (for me)! But I guess they've moved the goalpost to "climate change is natural" or "it cannot be stopped". It's not about believing anything actually cause if it where, why join THAT SPECIFIC religious group and not an, other? Whilst being trans makes you an outcast from a lot of groups and people try to hide it zo avoid that pain. It is such a stupid analogy, that doesn't even makes any sense. You don't "transition" into religion, you get "converted" and the fun thing is: "you GET converted" but "YOU transition" And as a german who grew up in a household where my mom liked to go to church for a long time (that changed when she had to work on sundays and that simply faded into not going anymore), I can say that being "Christian" doesn't make you a freaking ahole. Being a fundamental Christian makes you an ahole it seems~ And I am always sooooooooo mad at the "yeah, but basic biology says diffrent!" - because BASIC BIOLOGY IS BASIC!! basic biology ALSO tells you platypusses are not real! It tells you seahorses reproduction isn't correct! It tells you snails are in themselves absolutely wild cause having an animal that is both sexes at once is completely against "two sexes"! Bonobos who have intercourse foe bonding are also not existent, cause basic biology says that's for making offsprings! Basic biology states that a reptile without feet is a snake, but oh no! Slowworms exist and they are lizards! (I hope that's the right name, cause it just confused me that there are two names for that creature in english... In german it's "Blindschleiche") And basic biology tells us that only birds and insects can fly, but oh no! Bats exist! ... The world is full of stuff that doesn't really make sense, so having people being both genders at once or people transitioning isn't THAT unheard of in nature... And I forgot clown fishes! G'day from Australia. Platypus are real. They lay eggs, and when the eggs hatch, the mother feeds them on milk - but she doesn't have nipples, just patches of skin that ooze milk and the babies lick it up. Enjoy. We have legless lizards here too - which look just like a baby snake, except they're not venomous. If you get close enough to find out that a snake is venomous here, you'd better know your snakebite first aid or you're basically dead.

The Martha's Vinyard comment comes from a stunt, of when the Governor of Florida thought he would "own the libs" and show that they are hypocrites by enticing asylum seekers into a plane that flew to Martha's Vinyard, an island near Boston that some think of as a liberal outpost (the Kennedy compound is there). The Governor told them (through a translator) that they would be housed and given jobs. The plane landed and the refugees deplaned. There was no one there to greet them. No one on Martha's Vinyard were even told they were coming. It was off-season, so the rich people who owned the mansions were not there. The year-round residents came to the rescue, and found a place for the asylum seekers to stay overnight and fed them, but then most had to be sent to Boston where there were organizations and resources necessary to handle them. Even though Massachusetts protested, and I think the Florida governor was sued for essentially kidnapping these people (enticing under false pretenses), some people on the right still consider this stunt a 'win' against the 'eastern liberal elites'.

As for what it is, it's a common holiday dish in the US! It's cut green beans (my family tends to use canned ones but some people poach/boil their own using fresh ones), cream of mushroom soup, worcestershire sauce, and french fried onions (if you know funyuns, or any other onion-flavored puffy crisp they're like that but broken up) all thrown together in a pan and cooked in the oven for a bit then topped with more french friend onions.

Also, there's something to be said about growing it at home, or otherwise using fresh ingredients as opposed to canned or frozen. Canned green beans (or any kind of canned vegetables for that matter) are the worst, and are no indication of the actual texture or flavor. They tend to be mushy, full of added salt and preservatives, and taste like the can. Taste and texture sensitivity is a common autistic trait, which is why I always try to go fresh if I can.

Today at work I heard a coworker (let's call him Gary) bemoaning the notion that there's a newer and more positive slang meaning for "goat". He's of the opinion that a "goat" is a someone who's blamed for a failure or loss, but someone else in his work group (let's call him Ryan) countered, "First of all, you need to relax. Second, goat doesn't mean that anymore - someone who's called a goat is iconic... it means greatest of all time." And from there they went back to their ongoing debate about TV and American football. The comment Jamie made about changes in language reminded me of that conversation as well as the benefit that changes in language (formal or slang), culture, etc make to the world in general. Without change, things get stagnent; if that stagnation persists for too long, there are negative effects. I'll get off my soap box now.
@silkwesir14443 ай бұрын
Yes, but you can already tell that usage of "goat" is not going to stick for very long. It's more like weather, less like climate, in a case like that. Maybe a good roal of thumb is: If you need to do it in a funny voice in order for it so sound right, it probably is short lived. What gives it its advantage in the short term (being flashy) is also its downfall in the long run (becoming tedious).
@anthonyislate3 ай бұрын
This sounds like just a misunderstanding or miscommunication tbh. What "Gary" was talking about is a scapegoat, someone blamed for sth that isn't their fault. I've never in my life heard it being used shortened to just goat tho. So he wasn't wrong, he was just thinking of a completely different word (and also misremembering what the actual word was)

30:43 -- "No human is illegal -- Except in Martha's Vineyard" is a reference to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tricking 50 migrants into getting on a chartered jet and dropping them off in Martha's Vineyard in Massachussets. Martha's Vineyard is a tiny rural community on an island that is known for being the summer country home of very wealthy people, including politicians. So the idea was that the rich and politicians don't have to deal with immigrants, so they were going to force them on them. But the people in Martha's Vineyard, both locals and the wealthy who were summering, opened their homes and churches to the migrants until they could take the ferry to the mainland and get people more resources. So the joke is that "Liberals only like immigrants if they don't have to be around them."

One of my parents likes to preach that LGBTQIA+ identity is "learned" behavior or the fault of social media or some such silliness. This same parent has no idea I'm aroace and nonbinary. I was nonbinary and aroace before I even knew those were options--certainly before I was on social media (the early 2000s). I just wasn't romantically or sexually attracted to anyone, which was fine. And when I started not identifying with my assigned gender at 8 or 9 years old I thought "Oh, there's only 2 options? Well, if this one doesn't fit, I'll try out the other one!" When the other one felt better but still not quite right, "neither" wasn't an option ever presented to me. But, after A LOT of thinking it over, I just decided ON MY OWN that I didn't care for gender actually lol. No gender for me, thanks. It's that simple. Just because we have more widespread knowledge and labeled categories now for simplicity's sake, doesn't influence how people identify. People will be whoever they are in the end regardless. LGBTQIA+ people have always existed, even before widespread social media access. And there's very little harm in experimenting. 💜🏳🌈

Hanging around transgender communities online has given me words for things I've experienced - that buzz when I was doing welding or cutting up a fallen tree with a chainsaw, that's gender euphoria. But I also get a deep warm joy from archetypical womanly activities. I loved being pregnant, breastfeeding, sitting up all night because a child with a minor fever wanted to be held while she slept. I'm not trans. I know I'm not trans because I have the language to identify how I feel about being a woman. I'm a cis woman with an atypical expression of gender which includes doing a lot of male-coded things, and that's fine. Funny about Star Wars is that they just canonized a transgender clone trooper earlier this month. Her name is Sister and she's pretty cool. It's also not unheard of, despite what bigots would say, since imperfect clones are a common sci-fi trope. There are already cisgender female clone troopers.

The funny thing about that story is that it was actually in a story about two years ago, and the people who get angry about that sort of thing have only just heard about it because someone noticed recently and went on a rant about it and all the anti-fan types have heard about it now.

Sister has been a character in the books for about two years… Also from the Bad Batch, Omega is stated to be a non genetically altered, 100% copy of Jango Fett, and yet she is a girl, so while Star Wars refused to confirm it the only real option there is either she is trans or intersex.

Oh, cool, didn't know there were female or transfemme clones. That's gonna broaden the Star Wars OC fanart.

Any man who immediately jumps to "trans women able to hurt women without consequence" is telling on himself. He's telling the world the only reason he isn't physically assaulting women is because he's afraid he would be viewed negatively. Massive red flag.

0:51 Slightly offensive jokes are funny, you just gotta make fun of yourself or your friends. You can't just say "haha black people bad, trans people bad"

It really isn't that hard to understand. Note that those individuals who can make good jokes about queer or nonwhite folks are usually in that group--because they actually KNOW about the group they're riffing on. An element of truth makes for a better joke, not using old, harmful myths based on ignorance like a lot of anti-trans comedians do lately.

I'm bisexual, and when I came out as such I was genuinely surprised that I didn't get any pushback or being told that I'm "too young to know for sure" (I'm 26,and came out when I was 24) just a great coming out all around

Freedom of speech only means that the government can't penalize you for saying most things. It does not mean that you don't have to face social or financial consequences, nor that anyone is obligated to platform your bigotry.

Iirc Steamboat Willie is a cartoon starring Mickey Mouse as a different character. (edit) Funnily enough, Shakespeare also made up a lot of words that didn't make sense even in his own time. He was based like that.
