The composer HAD to have listened to music while underwater, at some point in his life. The sounds are PERFECT representations of the doppler effect from the body of water shifting around. The gentle vibrato and the out of tune notes...what happened to composing like this??? This song is absolute perfection in terms of what it's trying to do. Source: I'm an ex submariner for the US Navy. I'm VERY familiar with being under water for a very long time, and the effect that the ocean has on sound.

A few years ago my dad and I found a working snes with donkey kong country, super mario all stars, and two other games all for 20 dollars at a garage sale. There were also 2 working controllers. We played the whole game together, in my smallish room. Before that, we had this game on the wii's virtual console, so I watched him play that a ton, but it was a whole new experience playing it myself alongside him on the original system. The 100% was hard to get, but we did it. Donkey Kong Country will always have a place in my heart.

This restoration is absolutely sublime! I love it. Thank you so much for uploading it!! I will have to be THAT GUY and point out one little thing: you missed the weird little bassline around 0:18! I don't know if you know what I mean, but listen to the original version of this song and crank up your volume around that part and you'll hear a very, very subtle bassline of maybe 3 cords that leads up to the next section. I'm sorry, I don't know my musical terminology. I'm not a musician! Hahah. But I've always noticed that strange little very, very quiet bassline leading up to the next part of the song. I always wondered why David Wise put that in there in the first place. It's just such a minor thing. Anyway, thanks again for this. Absolutely amazing work!

this video has by far the most views of this song on youtube, I feel like most people are under the impression that they're listening to the original in HQ rather than someone's best attempt to recreate it. I feel the title should be more clear; this isn't really a restoration so much as a cover (in higher fidelity) edit: The tuning is off at some parts in this too, along with some other issues that miss the subtlety of the original side by side. This is a less cohesive piece than the original imo. (and I don't say that out of nostalgia, I never played this game, I'm just listening side by side)

It can be sad and sometimes devastating to remember the simplicity of times where you wouldn't have to worry about anything and instead enjoy the simplicity and beauty of life, though that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy life and spend time with those you love. There is so much out there left to explore and the simplicity of life is still here it just sometimes doesn't feel like it. I don't wish I could go to the past, because I instead hope for better futures with new and amazing people. Remember to stay determined, as you'll need it to have fun and be amazed by life. I’m 37 years old now.. this music instantly gets me emotional. DKC1 and DKC2 were the only 2 games that ever really impressed my father. I sat in my room and played games from when I was 5, until pretty much when I moved out. My father never came into my room and actually watched me play any of my games during all of those years…. But …. These 2 games? He was fascinated. He couldn’t get over the music, and the graphics. I felt such intense happiness when he would watch me play these games. I’d go through each level with a smile on my face. Out of the thousands of gameplay / music videos I’ve watched on KZbin, this particular game / music is the one that makes me cry. My father’s been gone for almost 12 years now, and I have 2 sons of my own, a 2 year old and a newborn. I’m going to make sure I spend so much time with my kids, and show interest in their hobbies. My father didn’t show very much interest in mine, or spend much time with me. I know I’ve gone a bit deep with this comment, but that’s how good this game was, and still is to me. It reminds me of that intense happiness I had while playing it. It reminds me of my father. This single game holds so much power over me. I absolutely need to get a retro pi set up with emulators, just so I can relive those days. 😢

So this is where it all began. Circa 2017, a legend was born, and another legend was revived. Jammin' Sam came out of nowhere and breathed new life into Donkey Kong Country, an already legendary game, made even more spectacular thanks to these audio restorations. There's good reason why this video has 3.8 MILLION views (circa 2022) despite this now being an old mix - it's because this is the song that got us hooked on Sam's video game restorations. These DKC OST restorations got me through my PhD through the pandemic. I listened to them nearly every time I sat down to focus, including weekend evenings. And I continue to listen to them when doing exercise or driving in the car. Sam, I cannot thank you enough for what you have brought to not just my life, not just the video game community, but to the world in general. Your work has truly touched us. I deliberately came back here to this video, years later, to just give you a small token of my appreciation, which doesn't even begin to measure up to what your work has given me in my life. I have been addicted to this version by The Consouls - acoustic instruments with chiptune effect applied: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5Tcq5-gjqyaiMk

I heard this playing at a coffee shop in Payson, AZ. Took me a good 5 minutes to comprehend what was going on, until I finally asked the employee if she knew where this song is from (she did know). I’ve always been a fan of this music but never thought I’d hear it being played at a coffee shop.

I remember falling asleep to this in my grandma's living room with my brother and cousin. We had played non stop all day and then night time, we were tired but wanted to still play. We just ended up curling into each other with this song in our ears.

GAWD this takes me back. This was like me and Super Smash Bros Melee's soundtrack. My sis, cousins and I would play Melee til 3am. I remember zooning out and all I heard when I woke up at like, 10 am Saturday morning was Melee Menu 2...still my favorite track in any video game. Time just flies...

This song makes me very nostalgic for when I played it with my cousins years ago (around 12 years ago), I treasured that memory because I had a great time.

According to DKC's composer, David Wise, the goal here was to create a calm, rewarding music experience for players after a tough journey through previous levels. Goal well accomplished, I'd say.

I am transcending through space and time, past, present and future. Through the nostalgic airwaves of this blissful tune of my childhood, Unknowingly what my future will hold as a child, unknowingly of the losses of family and friends, my innocence slowly fading away into adulthood not knowing who will still be hear in our present day and who will leave us in our future. Nostalgia can be a bastard slipping in unexpectedly yet weirdly enough welcomed to take us back to our personal good old days
