Tolkien + "The Battle of Maldon" = the most inspiring way to start the year! Plus The Voluspa?! And Egil's Saga! Yes, I agree with you that Egil's random acts of violence and his anti-heroism are compelling. Can I go back to uni, please? Now I'm curious to know what the characters from The Faithful and the Fallen sound like in the Gwynne home. Anyway, tears during Wrath are totally understandable. Wonderful to have a "Will video" here on The Brothers Gwynne!

I know! I mean, if they say I HAVE to read Tolkien's take on 'The Battle of Maldon', I guess I'll just have to.... I'm sure the next chat we have together I'll be talking to you about all of these amazing texts! As always, thanks for watching :). Will

Always good to see you back, Will! Mad respect for how hard you've been working on your uni reading, hats off to you! Nice to hear that the Wolf Den trilogy is only getting better for you, I hope the finale sticks the landing. And you truly can never go wrong with a FatF reread, I am glad it brought you so much joy (and pain) again, haha. Happy reading!

Thanks so much :). I'm very tense for the Wolf Den finale! Hah, FatF reread can only be good news! Not for the emotions though... it's a rollercoaster! Thanks as always for watching, and happy reading :). Will

Isn't it cool what a distinctly unique experience you can have with a very familiar text by listening to it instead of reading it? Sometimes if I have to do a reread for book club or something I will listen the second time instead of reading and I appreciate how it's the same exact story but it can be a really different experience, depending of course on how good the narrator is.

Thanks for the reviews! I love Heart of Darkness. And I read Angels in America shortly after it was published and, as I do with most plays, had a hard time following what was happening. I’ll have to look up a performance!

I’m half way through Bleak House, part of a literature class through Newberry with the library of Chicago. We meet on Zoom every week for eight weeks. Definitely a good and fun way to read this book. Instructor is Steven Venturino.

That sounds like a great way to read it, especially as Dickens originally released it in parts as well. Hope you enjoy! Will

BBC did a really good adaptation of Bleak House. I bought the first 2 Elodie H. but won't read them until #3 comes out because at my age I can't remember what happens from book to book unless I read them all within a relatively close period of time. You young whippersnappers with your young college brains - you don't know how good you have it LOL

Nice to see you back! I waded through Bleak House some years ago now and it's probably my least favourite of all the Dickens books I've read - I do remember there being some good bits and some interesting characters but yeah... it's a lot of book to get through to get to those moments!

Definitely agree! Far preferred A Tale of Two Cities and A Christmas Carol. Did really enjoy the investigation in the second half of the book, and some twists really did take me by surprise. But you're right, it takes dedication to get to those!!! Will
