LOL to the aging thing. I can relate. I'm 65 now and still quite active. Was sitting on the floor the other day, as I often do, and when I was getting up I said jokingly to my mum, "Don't know what they've done to floors now, but the ones we had 40 years ago were so much easier to get up off." She laughed and said, "Uh, I think it's more the 40 years than the floor."

@Johnny Kent yeah she may look good for her age but true beauty comes from within which emanates and reflects the outer. That said you seem to have forgotten that this woman is a traitor when the Viet Nam war was going on. IOW she's not on my list of great people as I would venture to say many others. Think about it. Redford in contrast is a kind, articulate, intelligent not to mention sooo very handsome man.
@JoePalau Жыл бұрын
@@lauriebatyah8274 Long story made short. Jane made a mistake by going to Hanoi and she apologized deeply for it. She was young and clueless about the propaganda North Vietnam would make of the images of her in Hanoi. The much bigger backstory is about how we got involved in Nam, where Eisenhower and Kennedy stood on the matter before McNamara and Westmoreland entered the scene. Add to that Johnson's ignorance about WWII in South East Asia and how the Vietnamese were battered by the French, Japanese, and the West. Again, a long story. Misunderstanding and misinformation still overwhelm a clear understanding of how we got involved in an essentially colonial war and how we had absolutely no skin in the game until we dispatched "military advisors' better known as the Navy, Marines, Army, and Air Force to support entirely corrupt South Vietnam Leaders. Cold War rhetoric got us there, domino therories and sheer hubris about the overwhelming strenght of our military assets. It was yet another time we were supposed to get in and out in a jiffy. Guess not. Now we have a legacy that morphed into our culture wars of today. Yes, I am from the generation who fought that war. My heart still aches. Jane was foolish but not a trader. She became fodder for the culture wars already in progress.

Nice interview. People get too obsessed with looks - these are two great actors. There is nothing ugly about being 80. Aging is a natural process, and every stage of life is a gift. Why don’t we focus on deeper things than how young or old someone looks? We have one life; we should enjoy being ourselves at every age, try to be healthy, and not try to live up to unrealistic expectations of looking young.

Take a look at Meryl Streep's presentation of the Kennedy Award to Jane. I think Meryl got it best when she tells us a story about what it is like to be on a set with Fonda. She is alive, electric, present, always in sync with everyone in the scene, yet alive to every conceivable moment for improvisation, to be utterly alive and in the moment. Meryl says Jane's talent is cultivated but in its origins a gift that defines her very being. Meryl added that she was at the beginning of her career and Jane was well into stardom by then she was kind, as present, as ever in her attention to Meryl, her fears, and her emotional needs to perform to the best of her abilities. Meryl never forgot that day or the kind of person Jane is. Nor have I.

JULIA (1977) with Jane Fonda is my favorite film. But Vanessa Redgrave's performance shines in a film filled with great performances. Set in the 1930's the themes of anti-fascism, friendship, art and theater are blended in a perfect film. It's unique in capturing the plight of a writer, Lillian Hellman/Fonda, as she struggles with her first play. We see her walking on the beach and in the background the turbulent ocean waves are churning like the thoughts in her head. Brilliant shot. The story of Hellman's friendship with Julia/Redgrave and love affair with Dashiell Hammett. The apogee is the tense, fraught scene between Hellman and Julia in a Berlin tavern as Hellman smuggles in cash for anti-Nazi activities, and while Fonda is excellent, Fonda herself said Redgrave's performance was on an entirely elevated level.

It's easy in our youth-besotted culture to fear aging, and it's understandable to mourn the physical ease and strength of youth if you were lucky enough to have had that. But we should also recognize the great good fortune of making it into one's 80's with relatively sound mind and body. Many people do not get that chance. Life and nature set their own terms, and we each struggle to navigate a path, be it gracious acceptance or the need to "rage against the dying of the light."

This is a rare case where same age lady looks muuuch better than same age old man. Both are 80y.o. plus/minus few months. Jane is in a great shape for 80 years old, unbelievable. Much faster and sharper than her counterpart. Note how Robert goes first to answer all questions, that still gives his character out, leading and maybe not very much respecting the lady, not giving her a choice to answer first, but I could be totally wrong on this one.

Hi everyone.. i just came upon this video, and i watched it.. i wanted to try to reach Robert and Jane with a message, and this message is for everyone else too! 1- yes its true, our bodies start degenerating from birth! BUT! we do not have to get " OLD " as we age!!! what do i mean exactly by " OLD " ??? i mean, WEAK, FRAIL, CONFUSED, LOST, TOTALLY DEPENDENT, UNABLE TO DO BASIC THINGS, OR, UNABLE TO DO MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE THINGS WE WERE ALWAYS USED TO DOING!!! AND WE DONT HAVE TO HIDE, DENY, OR INGNORE THE YOUNGER PERSON WE ARE INSIDE OUR BODIES!!!!! ... our bodies get older but inside we do not!! BUT if we are unable to do the things we used to do, or want to do, or even need to do? and get depressed, anxious or angry, etc? then that will prevent us from being ourselves! it will kill our spirits! and THAT JUST DOESNT HAVE TO BE!!!!! 2- while its true the aging will continue, we can slow it down dramatically!! and THESE NEXT FEW PARAGRAPHS ARE URGENTLY IMPORTANT!! MANY PEOPLE FOCUS ON THEIR LOOKS! THE TRUTH IS, OUR BODIES HAVE NEEDS! NOT JUST OUR HEARTS AND EGOS, BUT OUR BODIES TOO! OUR BODIES NEED CONSISTENT NUTRITION!!!! CONSISTENT REST! ( 10-12HRS OF SLEEP EVERY DAY ) OUR BODIES NEED CONSISTENT, SPECIFIC EXERCISE!!! CARDIOVASCULAR EXERCISE FOR THE HEART AND LUNGS, BODY BUILDING ( WITH LIGHT WEIGHTS ) FOR ALL OF THE INDIVIDUAL MUSCLES! TO KEEP THEM STIMULATED AND STRONG THROUGHOUT OUR LIVES!!! AND WE ALL NEED PASSION IN OUR LIVES!!! PASSION AS IN DOING THINGS, WORK, HOBBIES, ACTIVITIES, THAT WE FEEL CONNECTED WITH! THAT WE GENUINELY LOVE! AND IF WE CANT DO THOSE THINGS THAT WE LOVE TO DO ( PROVIDING THEY ARE THINGS THAT ARE HEALTHY, POSITIVE, CONSTRUCTIVE, AND LEGAL ) THEN WE HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO DO THEM! OTHERWISE WE WASTE OUR TIME TRYING TO CHASE MONEY FOR MATERIAL THINGS, THAT MOST OF US JUST REALLY DONT NEED!!! AND CHASING MONEY IN AN ECONOMIC SYSTEM THAT IS CONSTANTLY MANIPULATED AND CONTROLLED AND SET TO KEEP MOST PEOPLE FROM EVERY GETTING "ENOUGH" TO STOP CHASING IT!!!!! THEN WE LOSE OUR LIVES!!!!!! ( AND ALL THE WEALTHY KEEP THEIR WEALTH AND GET WEALTHIER ) AND WHO REALLY WANTS THAT? im a fitness instructor and nutritionist, and i have been helping younger people, older people, handicapp people, TO CHANGE THEIR LIFESTYLES and to RE LEARN HOW TO CARE FOR THEIR BODIES THE RIGHT WAYS! and they have all learned these dramatic truths! its not about quanitity! its about quality! in all things.... YOUR TIME IS THEE MOST PRECIOUS THING WE HAVE, AND HOW WE SPEND OUR TIME IS VITAL!! EVERYONE WILL GET "OLD"! its literally just a matter of time. so doesnt it make sense to PREPARE FOR IT AND LIVE HEALTHY AND DO THESE THINGS THAT WE NEED TO DO, TO MAKE SURE IF WE ARE AROUND TO SEE 60-70-80-90-100??? THAT WE ARE STILL WHO WE ARE AND CAN INFACT DO ALL THOSE THINGS WE ALWAYS DID AND LOVE TO DO!!!!???? you can give me ANY situation that appears to disprove what i am saying! and i will show you how you are wrong! and its not about me!! this is a message for everyones benefit!!! ( i know these things already, i live a healthy life, and i teach these things to others ) so i made my choice and im practicing what im preaching! When i saw Robert Redford here, talk about his message of aging? i wanted to tell him he doesnt have to experience that! even in the shape he is in now, his weight is ok, a little on the light side, but he needs to do some body building.. to stimulate and strengthen all of his muscles... and that, in addition with doing some light running 2 times a week, and some swimming, and some bike riding, doing these things in rotation on a weekly basis, will DRAMATICALLY IMPROVE AND LITERALLY CHANGE HIS " OLD AGE " ISSUES!!!!! AND THAT WILL BE THE SAME FOR EVERYONE! yes, there many people who are sick! who are on various medications, that are just too weak to exercise.. but you know why their sick and too weak to exercise?? most people, because the medications are making them sick! ( wide public knowledge these days ) medications are nothing more than toxic synthetic chemcals!!!! and they CRIPPLE the body! you say, oh yeahh, well i got sick and i needed that medication, it saved my life!!! well if you say to me? i will say in return NO!!! you got sick in the first place because you werent getting the nutrition, sleep, exercise, and passion you needed in your life!!!! ~ our bodies have been wonderfully made to heal itself! BUT WE NEED TO FEED IT ALL THE NUTRITION IT NEEDS TO MAKE OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM SUPER STRONG, SO IT CAN DO IT JOB! most people dont even know how the body works! or how the body needs more water, than ANYTHING ELSE, and extremely little solid food!!! our digestive system isnt made for all the food most people eat everyday!!! and people are getting sick and having ALOT OF PROBLEMS because of just that! and it all goes down hill from there........ ok well, if anyone has any questions for me? send me a message.. im working on making a video and writing a book to help many more people,. but unfortunately rightnow, money is still an issue.. and i say that because thats the only reason so many of you havent heard my message before! in other words, i would like to do more.. but as i said earlier, our economy is purposely very difficult to work in.......... but i can still do whatever i can while im waiting to win the lottery.. lol.. so im here to help if anyone would like it?!!!! ~

An example of great plastic surgery (Fonda) and not so great (Redford).

I completely disagree. I think he has held up very well, especially for a man of his age. If you ever find yourself in W.TN., let me know. I'll take you on a tour of some of our local Nursing Homes and we will visit some other 81 year old men. I bet your opinion of Redford's current looks will change dramatically.

BlueWaltz42 - The white tee isn't complementary to his light coloring & weathered skin (normal for someone of his age)... deeper tones like blue, maroon, grey, etc. & a nicer shirt &/or jacket for this interview wd. more favorably bring out his best. Regardless, his deeply thoughtful & restrained manner is an appealing quality at any age.

Jane Fonda has had a lot of help keeping her youthful. She has had multiple face lifts. I am not criticising her. She looks wonderful. But I do not know how she would have looked had she not had them. Robert Redford, on the other hand, looks his age. And he is truthful in this interview about the sadness of ageing.

Fonda is beautiful and talented but I can't get past her Vietnam nam era behavior. Redford just a Hollywood liberal..

Dilly Dally How sad for you and all of you that can't forgive Jane! She has said over and over how sorry she was for her part in Vietnam, and how that's the one thing that she regrets most.She was young and it was a crazy time and we all make mistakes. I feel very sorry for you people that can't forgive, does Christ not teach us that? Regardless this was a beautiful movie and Miss.Fonda and Mr.Redford did a beautiful job, like to see them make another movie together 💙

Dilly Dally Again she has apologized over and over! I'm sorry for your pain, she knows she was wrong and sorry for the pain it caused all of you! But forgive her, she was young and we all make mistakes! Thank you for your service.

Dilly Dally And one last thing put your anger at Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon who started and continued that useless ridiculous war to begin with! No strategy to end it, no point in it! You men that served treated like crap by us Americans when you came home! That's the crime right there!! Don't hold on to anger for one misguided girl in 1972, who later apologized over and over! Did any President apologize? Did the American people who spit on many soldiers every apologize? No!! Again thank you for your service💙

Forgiveness is infinitely more for the forgiver than the forgiven. & not forgiving only perpetuates the action that is disliked or hated , & becomes very toxic for all, butt especially for the nonforgiver. 👊
