One of my favorites from Jane's. I remember a late night in downtown Santa Barbara, California ~1997 at my friends house and in that in between that final wake and slipping into sleep state around 4am (it was late August, so it was hot and the windows were open) and a car outside at the stop light was playing 'Then She Did' and it was the mellow part when Perry sings 'pulled from a headless shell'. It was so surreal and a moment that has stuck with me all these years. My most favorite band of all time.

RITUAL was, and still is, one of the most influential albums of my life. It has always found it's way into conscious and subconscious life. When I first heard it, I remember thinking it was aggressive... violent...sexy...funny...freaky...poetic...all while,musically, being as original and exciting as anything had ever heard before and since. I was 20 when it came out. I still listen to it now and I STILL get the same feelings from it years later. It also happens to be my favorite album cover of ALL TIME. Jane's Addiction is MY Led Zeppelin.

I love this the most about Perry and the way he allows his vocals to be an instrumental part of the musical composition which is so much like a surreal jazz piece. Jane’s Addiction was a musical experience I missed being a mother to a family in the 90s, but when I was able to continue in my life as my own person, I discovered them way too late! I may be fortunate to be able to get into their 90s vibe starting in my frickin’ 50s! I dream of Perry, literally like I knew him over 30 hrs ago and I was at the ocean with him and we were just hanging out and becoming friends. It freaks me out yet seems possible for some weird reason.

I remember taking a road trip in the early 2000's in my '99 Dodge Avenger. I went to visit some cousins I hadn't seen in a while. It was a beautiful day and the windows and the sun roof were open. I listened to Jane's Addiction during the whole trip. It was a two hour drive. I had a great time driving and I especially loved this song when it played.

Avery is by far (Cliff Burton you know I kid) my fav bassist. and his style alone is light years ahead of his time. Perkins is probably the best, worst kept secret in all of rock n roll. without his foundation I couldn't imagine how different they would sound. Dave can slay and is probably one of the best guitarists ever if he was in some mainstream act... his style is so deep and he can change his tempo on a dime and it's these moments of melodramatic lows that conclude with Dave building the song into a whirlwind and then back down. so amazing. and Perry is just someone that can just stand there and it seems interesting. he could literally be a statue and ppl would still be interested in seeing what it's all about.

Perry’s instrument besides his voice is the effects that he and he alone controls throughout any Jane’s Addiction show. This performance is a great example of that. I forget where it happens in this video but he walks over to his effects knobs and drops the pitch of his voice and then brings it back up.

Allan Ostermann I am so sorry your mother died that way and I believe anyone who commits suicide isn't in their right mind when doing it they are depressed or worse and it is hard to fathom and it hurts too. My cousin's husband killed himself 10 years ago his two oldest kids are in their early 20's now and his son is 15 and the youngest about 10 she was 18 months when he passed she has zero memory of him and it bothers her knowing that and the son doesn't remember much. One of the older daughters was nauseous and almost hyperventilating during his funeral. He killed him b/c of finances ridiculous really and selfish of him and his reasons. I don't think all people who commit suicide are selfish in doing it cause if they have a nervous breakdown etc. they are mentally broken and need to get well again and it sadness to see any of this happen to anyone. The family suffers the worst from the aftermath. I just hope that you heal from this in your heart and knowing your mother is in heaven, poor thing it breaks my heart knowing someone like her had to feel this was the only solution God bless her and you!

Remember the Los Angeles street scene with jane's addiction? The Roxy show when they recorded their first album? Club Scream? Fenders Ball room with Dramarama? The John Anson Ford shows? Those were great days when you could see great bands at different clubs throughout Hollywood. I saw Jane's Addiction at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano on two Saturdays back to back. Club Scream shows and the 88 to 89 new year show were my favorites. They played a show at irvine meadows with Social Distortion and X.

A friend asked me back in the early 90s if I could tape record this show (on VHS! MTV 120 minutes ow yeah!) and I had never heard of Jane's Addiction and this mesmerizing figure called Perry Farellseen, but the band and their enigmatic lead singer with such crushing charisma truly was a revelation to me! Felt paralyzed and considered the show as a gift from God and Satan joining forces, I listened and watched it over and over (as in 100 times till the tape) till my mom asked: shouldn't you study for your anatomy exam for tomorrow? I was a med student back then who was totally into this kind of miraculous eye-opening Art; later on I got lost as a fully trained MD in Detroit Techno and its many following waves. My lovely mom was wondering why she had sent me to piano lessons from the age of 7 till 19. Still love Chopin and Rachmaninov of course! Wow, speaking of a broad musical eclectic education if I look back to all of it right now... 🙂

When I watched this video I felt I could see Perry pouring his soul into the lyrics--at certain points his expression is of someone very immersed in the music and full of deep emotion. Then I read it was about a former love of his who died of an overdose, and also about his mother's suicide.That explained a lot about the depth of this moving performance.

I think that if you know both bands music, you must feel that Zeppelinesque sound on Jane's Addiction. Days ago I was turning my friends to JA we started with both albums you mention and they noticed that Led Zeppelin influence.

The prior song to this on the album is Three Days where they have just let rip big time. This song is about restraint for the most part. I haven't listened to it in quite a while and I had forgotten just how powerful it is.

Hammerstein was awesome, but this is the most fantastical Jane's video on KZbin. The sound is so haunting and filled with unbelievable passion. The acoustics are out of this world in this video!

The best Janes song out there. This performance cannot be topped. Been listening to Janes for 20yrs. Perry"s voice isnt the same now but he is still the man. Along with Dave,Eric and Stephen of course there would be no Janes Addiction without them. Flea did a decent job subbing for Eric but the magic isnt there. The Hammerstein performance is great too.

è l'unico chitarrista che suona questo genere di musica e crea questi assoli così armoniosi, ritmati e con una dinamica in crescendo... la pulizia del suono è unica, è davvero molto piacevole ascoltarlo.
