Eric Avery is perhaps the most underrated bassist in the history of alternative rock
@lonboomer81476 жыл бұрын
eric is the only reason jane's exists. he hated perry's band psi-com but must of thought enough of what perry was doing to join up with him. the 4 of them with their varied influences kinda became the PERFECT outfit. i didn't care for them until i heard Of COURSE, ironically eric doesn't play on that but it hit me hard enough to go back and listen then eric was revealed to my brain, never been the same. i truly believed they were going to change the world, i saw them at lolla for the only time at the height of their powers, an EXPERIENCE that has only been equaled by seeing MY BLOODY VALENTINE in 2013. if you haven't heard eric's other work give it a listen and you'll know to where the soul of jane's ascended.

Well said. Avery really is/was the unsung foundation to their tempo and rhythm.
@johnobrien47665 жыл бұрын
@@lonboomer8147 So many different things going on with their sound. Question is how much was intentional and how much was just an example of artistic happenstance...a magic that just kind of appears between the right artists, but is almost impossible to manufacture. There are elements in this song of Santana with the heavy tribal percussion along with an Allman brothers freestyle jam vibe. Simply an awesome song.

Sat in my apartment with my cousin and his friend Stephen Perkins as Stephen played us the rough mix of this song. We must have listened to it 3 or 4 times and knew how epic it would be upon it's completion. Stephen told us the overdubs were going to be done later that same week and that he'd let us listen to the song again after the final mix. Unfortunately, the next time I heard the song was when I listened to it on cassette after the album was released. I swear I must have listened to it one hundred times that first weekend alone. The engineers at the recording studio I worked at said I was going to wear out the tape. They were right, I did. This song is still and will always be one of my favorite songs. Jane's Addiction is and will always be one of my favorite bands. And Stephen Perkins is and will always be one of my favorite drummers.

Indeed. My 1st JA's show, they opened for Iggy Pop, Warner Theater, Wash. D.C. in '88. Nobody knew who they were, Nothing's Shocking barely released, was already a big fan due to their epic debut LP. At their future gigs in D.C. they would play a PACKED 9:30 Club. Even had a chance to hang out with 'em backstage the entire evening at that legendary venue, before and after the show, Feb. '89. Outstanding group, a top favorite and this composition, their magnum opus.
