"The Knowledge" is an underrated video from Rythm Nation. It wasn't a stand alone video, it was part of the Rhythm Nation mini-movie, but it is soo good

THis video and song is my absolute favorite ffom this album. I used to study this video for hours and days and know every single neck movement, shoulder bounce, knee raise...everything! The slow ballads are awesome too, "Come Back to Me", "Lonely" , "Some Day is Tonight"

2:35 - 2:41 is weirdly my favourite bit in this video - that thing she does with her hands, and the little dance she does afterwards. Can you do that?!

I come back to this reaction from time to time just because your face when the chair scene starts......it's how we all are even me who can name out every shot in this video cause I've seen it so much lol😅 I forgot if it was mentioned (shoot maybe even by me when it 1st came out), but what I love is for the chair sequence Jam & Lewis went back into the studio to make that extended lil bit there. That's the thing when you listen to Rhythm Nation most especially, almost every song that has a video, the video mix is noticeably different than the version on the album, be it a lil longer or shorter. So it makes both special.

Janet does ALL of her background harmonies and melodies. You should watch her black cat video as well which she was nominated for a Grammy for best Rock song which she wrote the words and music by herself. The Rhythm Nation Album was inducted into The National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress because of its socially conscious content. Janet Jackson is the Blueprint for the female artists of the 80's. 90's and early 2000's. And even today female artists imitate her style.

Famed choreographer Terry Bixler did the chair sequence at the end. The songs, with accompanying videos ("Rhythm Nation," "Escapade," "Alright," "Let's Wait Awhile", "Love Will Never Do (Without You)") are the reason why this was the most successful album of her career. She had more "control" (ironically) over writing and choreography (Paula Abdul choreographed most of her "Control" videos) with this album & this single spent four weeks atop of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart back in late 1989.

After Alright the singles were Black Cat, Come Back To Me, Love Will Never Do Without You and only released as a single in Italy State Of The World. Let's Wait Awhile was a single from her Control album.

Actually, the Janet album that was released after Rhythm Nation was her most successful album. Due to the success of that album she renegotiated her record contract and became the highest paid person in all of music. Surpassing her brothers contract and Madonna’s…

As Rhythm Nation’s lead single three years after her breakthrough, I’d say this is the single that shares the most with Control’s sound, but there’s a lot more sonic world-building on this album to enjoy. I highly suggest going through all seven top 5 hit singles (a record to this day) and their videos. State of the World was technically an eighth single but not commercially released. Her sound and imagery softens up and changes a lot after this album, too.

I remember getting Rhythm Nation Compilation..the videos...and they showed the making of this...everyones excitement in the background during the chair sequence is real because of how many takes it took to get it right. I adore Janet. I believe 1814 is when the Star Spangled Banner was written.
@murrayhonahni746
@murrayhonahni746 Жыл бұрын
The first meaning of “1814” is that R (Rhythm) is the 18th letter in the alphabet and N (Nation) is the 14th. Hence 1814. The second meaning is pretty awesome as Janet explained, “While writing Rhythm Nation, I was kidding around saying, “God you guys, I feel like this could be the national anthem for the 90’s…Just by a crazy chance we decided to look up when Francis Scott Key wrote the national anthem and it was September 14, 1814.”

You could watch them in the order they were released (to this day, Rhythm Nation remains the ONLY album in history with seven top five hits - and an eighth hit the top five on radio play alone, but wasn't released as an official single, so cannot precisely be included in that count): Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation, Escapade, Alright, Come Back to Me, Black Cat, and Love Will Never Do (Without You)

Check out the"Rhythm Nation 1814" short film that was released prior to the album, it's a masterpiece on it's own. It believe itwas created as a sort of teaser of what Janet had been upto and her feelings on social issues, I remember it premiering on MTV.

Firstly, let me mention, ur reactions are awesome. Very honest. Luv that ur discovering the artistry of Janet Jackson. With that, I do have to say, you missed a complete gem of a video on the Control album. "The Pleasure Principle" Add it to your return list lol. The video is classic! Regarding Rhythm Nation; an awesome and musically historic album. And like folks in the comments suggest, check out her vids for these. They are all great. But I'd have to say my top ones and suggestions for you are: Rhythm Nation: The message alone is historic. She talks of race, education, drugs and coming together as humans to make change. Video is even more iconic. This song has been entered into National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress. Noted in 2021 as one of the 25 recordings of audio treasures worthy of preservation for all time based on their cultural, historical or aesthetic importance in the nation’s recorded sound heritage. Love Will Never Do Without You: Shot by famed fashion director Herb Ritts. It's like a pictorial come to life. Beautiful cinematography. Every shot is a photo. And her vocals are different on this one. She sings in a lower octave. Very deep. At first. As history goes, this song was meant for her and Prince. She sung Prince's part in a deep voice for the demo and Jam & Lewis decided to just go with Janet's vocals. It shows she has lots of range. This also ushers in her era of softness. A more sexual side. Come Back To Me: Melody, Melody, Melody. Her voice is so melodic on this track. She does her own background vocals and here its' showcased like never before. The video backdrop is in Paris and it's just "chef's kiss"!

This album is amazing from start to finish and Miss you much was a great way to introduce the album. If im not mistaken, Janet made dancing with chairs an "in" thing that was then followed by other artists. Love will never do, come back to me, black cat, rhythm nation are a must to listen to. Just thr harmonies on come back to me are another level that no other artists has topped.

Not all of the songs from Rhythm Nation will have an accompanying video, but I suggest watching the video if there is one, as she was quite the innovative video artist and dancer. So excited for you to react to this album. Can't wait! Also, if you ever get around to watching the video for Pleasure Principle, I think you'll really appreciate it. Since you are into jazz and things like that you will like Anita Baker her whole Rapture album was everything so in 86-89 at the awards show It was Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson and Anita Baker, Whitney would in best female , or best pop artists, janet best choreography, best video, R&B single, Anita best r&b /soul female artists, best soul female artists. This period is when the AMA awards and the Grammy's were the best ever.

Madonna will always be my #1, but Janet is a VERY close second. She didn’t have a bad video from the albums Control through Velvet Rope. It must have been so intimidating for someone to audition to be a back-up dancer for Janet or Michael Jackson because, unlike with other singers / entertainers, you know these megastars can dance as good as or even better than you. 😀Not to mention the very high standard I suspect that Janet and Michael demand(ed) from their fellow stage performers.
