How do you keep the fondant flexible enough to place on the cake without it drying so fast (specially after air brushing waiting for paint to dry)?

For some reason it isn't letting me comment below the questions. Sally Wilson, You don't wait for the airbrushing to dry. Just try not to let the painted part flip over on itself. If it does, just make sure that part is under a fold so it doesn't show. Also, the thicker the fondant is, the quicker it seems to dry out. That is because thick fondant cracks. If you roll your fondant very thin, it doesn't crack the same way. Kristen Clack, The reason it was purple was because I used the cut off from the red and white stripes and had blue on my hands. No need to start with purple, I just don't waste fondant if I can use it. I use many different brands. I prefer Americolor, but I also have wilton and kroma colors and I think chefmaster. The Americolor blue is a better blue. The wilton Airbrush blue is actually pretty true royal. You just have to look and see which blues have a true royal base and not a greenish blue (like hawaiian blue) Those do work, but they make the flag look more childish to me- or fun. A real flag has a royal or purplish blue not a greenish blue.

Hi Ms. Janet, what airbrush colors did you use for the flag? I'm trying to teach myself.

Hi Janet, thank you for the excellent video tutorial. Can you please advise where you found such sharp star cutters? I've looked in stores AND on-line and can't locate a 2" cutter so sharp and pointed.

Cake supply stores usually carry a pointed star if they carry cookie cutters. They also come in the nested stars. Or, look in the clay or sculpy tools section of hobby lobby or Micheals. Around Christmas you can also usually find one. If all else fails, you can usually find a large star punch in the scrapcooking section. It might be a bit of a pain, but would work too.

don't worry too much about it being the exactly right size. Just get one that looks close.

hi Janet, love the cake.could you please help me with how long it takes for airbrushing to dry

Priscilla , I don't let it dry- pick it up and put it on the cake as quickly as possible. Airbrushing should dry pretty quickly as long as you don't puddle it.
