If you end up enjoying Anne of Green Gables I would 100% recommend you to watch the tv show which is called Anne with an E!! It's probably the most beautiful show I've ever watched in both the story as well as the visuals, the cinematography and landscape's are just breathtaking. Really hope you will give it a try and maybe talk about it in a blog or something someday:)

How to Make Friends and Influence People changed my Dad's life. He read it back in the mid-'80s and at the time he was working menial jobs, not being considered for promotions and he just felt stuck. A friend suggested it and after reading it gave him a lot of insight. He always says this example he was working as the low man on a team of aviation mechanics and he kept his head down and did his job. After he read the book he obviously still did his job but the way he walked around the hanger and how he held himself was different. He held his head up, he didn't hunch over, he walked with purpose. He said after he started doing that people saw him differently having more confidence. He always suggests it to anyone starting out going into college or starting a path. Anne of Green Gables you have to slog through the first half. It's a good start and gives a great introduction to Anne, but it's hard at the beginning. My favorite in the series is Anne of the Island. It's a movie, a mini-series, and has had a couple of T.V shows. The Secret Garden has kind of the opposite problem, the last three chapters are a bit of a slog for me. They make this book into a movie once about every 20 or 30 years.

3:49 I'll judge you! And my judgement, as someone who unabashedly has no shame in owning 5 (soon 6) editions of one book, is that it's actually pretty awesome if someone owns more than one edition of a book they love! Especially if it's a pretty edition; one those simple pleasures in life that make it worth living after all.

I really enjoyed Wicked Saints and Sorcery of Thorns. Wicked Saints is villain romance and if very character rather than plot driven. Sorcery of Thorns has a simple plot but is actually really enjoyable and I don’t think the romance was too much at all. It’s also about a library of sentient books as opposed to fairies as well!

I finished The Toll this morning, and I've never been so disappointed in a final book like i am with this one. I loved this series so much, Schyte was one of the best books I read in 2019, and I couldn't wait to pick up The Toll after that huge cliffhanger in Thunderhead. I was let down in way I can't even describe. Horrible ending. Can't you to see what you think about it though... And I'm sure you will like Our Dark Duet. It's very intense and an amazing story, really. My favorite duology.

I read "How to win friends & influence people" for my psychology course in university and I can tell that it pretty much teaches how to manipulate with people, to make them like you and to make them do what you want them to do. So it does still work, I think this book will never get too old, at least not completely. Some parts of it will always work. To finish that course I had to speak with my professor about my paper that was about the book and he asked me if I knew that Dale Carnegie committed a suicide. That was a big surprise for me, I would have never thought that someone who can give that kind of advice would ever kill himself, but I guess that's a common opinion about people like him.

Anne of Green Gables is imo REQUIRED READING for precocious children. She was my friend at a time in my life when I really needed one. For someone reading it for the first time as an adult, I suspect it is still a good book but you might not 'get the hype' as it were. Still worth reading, but us grown-ups are not the target audience. (as an adult my favorite book in the series is actually 'Rilla' which is about Anne's daughter and has WWI as a backdrop, which I think is fascinating given how few books have that setting compared to WWII.) The Secret Garden is still one of my favorite books: I reread it every other year. Rather than being attractive for a deep or complex story, it is more of a triumph of mood. It is a book that feels to me like standing briefly in the sun after running errands in the rain for hours, or having tea with a friend you lost track of a being satisfied to find you still get along...or like spring unfolding in a forgotten garden! It is sweet and chill and lovely. (same reason I recommend Elizabeth Goudge's books, actually)

Just a thought, the best stories with fae and the supernatural (but might fall under magical realism? I’m not sure) are by Patricia Briggs. I devour the Mercy Thompson series. She’s a skin walker who was raised by werewolves, is a mechanic for the local vampires, and lives just outside of Walla Walla, the reservation set up for the fae who “came out” when they realized that modern medicine and science was on the brink of putting them. I laugh, I cry, I have a great time 👍🏻

Am I behind? Are bangs new? They look incredible! I stayed away from BookOutlet for Boxing Day ... because I went a little bananas on Black Friday! 😜

Wicked Saints upsets me so much because the cover and the synopsis both make it seem like it would be everything I love but I haven’t heard a single good review on it :(

Just read a biography about Charles Manson, and he was a huge fan of that Dale Carnegie self-help stuff 😂😅

they made my class read Bridge to Tarabithia when I was like 8 or 9 years old and I cried so hard. I ended up going to my mom and she had to comfort me because I was such a mess. lol

I've decided to literally only buy books for their covers. I tend to read them first from the library, and if I love a book, and it has a great cover, then I buy it.

Last year I read "How to win friends and influence people". It was easy and interesting to read with many old examples, but still 4 stars book. And last week I read "Wicked saints". It was good, but nothing new to me. Also 4 stars.
