Loved the frame and other parts that were molded in gun metal color, reminds me of the Gundam Silhouette Formula series. Those clear/translucent yellow plastic parts are molded nice, but the clear white parts though are somewhat 'foggy', not like the classic RX-78-2 MG with clear parts where the supposed white parts were molded in a clear glass-like plastic. But still, that mega size RX-78-2 looks cool and an impressive addition to your collections.

When I was in Japan back at the beginning of November 2022, I was at Nakano Broadway doing some shopping, and in one of the Mandarake shops I came across an ANA themed Mega Size RX-78-2, new in box, and only 8800 yen. I would have bought it but there's no way it was going to fit in my luggage. I should have just bought it and shipped it home. If you're going to be in the Tokyo area, it may be worth checking to see if it's still available.

As a gunpla novice (I've built 3 HG and one MG so far) I do wish size wasn't so tied with price and features. I like big kits and I can not lie. I wish Bandai would have more larger-size options for not ridiculous prices. I dunno if I'm ever going to build a Perfect Grade (I would be so nervous about screwing up such an expensive kit) but I wish there were kits that size with the features of a MG without a giant price tag.

My spouse got me the original Mega size RX-78-2 for Christmas and I keep it in the background when I stream.

I just finished building the entry grade version of the RX-78-2. Gunpla are soooo expensive in Australia! I only paid AU$14 for that kit, but I paid twice that for another entry grade kit (Strike Gundam), of the same scale. However, since I paid the AU$28 for that kit, I later found it for about AU$20 and now it's only AU$14 at the same shop I bought the RX-78-2 from. In Australia, most kits go from between AU$50 and about AU$100, but they also go into the hundreds of dollars. The instructions for the Strike Gundam have a mistake for the very first part. The second kit I tried to build actually has a full sheet of parts missing; the black parts that hold the joints together. I still want to build more, but I was put off a bit with those first two kits.

A bilateral clear/solid kit would be really cool for a half-and-half. For the price of this mega size model though one could buy the huge metal build Kshatriya, so it would not be within my model budget any time soon lol. The part clipping and snapping together sounds on the big kits though are divine. Also putting the halves of frame pieces together while still on the runner is sorcery the likes of which the world is not ready for.

So, as an idiot and as a treat to myself---i just bought the High Grade, Psycho Zaku II, from Gundam Thunderbolt thanks to MELI showing off her other Zaku's over the past year and a half. I just love the style of the Zaku's going back to the 08 MS Team series and the GEOFF custome. My question to chat, as this is only the 3rd Gundam in my life that I have ever built, is how much pain am I about to endure building this thing. As a side note--i typically build Warhammer 40k models. No where near the same I know, but thats life. I REALLY hope i dont screw it up..

I'm sorry, I never was into clear kits. Just so happens I grabbed the Mega regular release when it came in stock to the US Storefronts (Newtype notification for this). You can do a lot of customizations and scribing on regular kits but this is fantastic to know, especially on the gunpla reddit front has gone dark.

Gunpla girl is really big on Gundam and the japanese figures. I wonder if shes into Transformers at all. Cool figure. I tried a few od these types of models as a kid i dreaded putting them together. You have a lot of patience 😅props. GOOD ASMR sounds ❤

I don't have a mega size in my collection, I really want to try one though. As for this kit, my feelings are kind of mixed, especially when it comes to clear kits, the biggest gripe that I have is that the pegs are visible. I don't know why but we're all different. For now I'm focusing on metal reinforcement kits for Gundams. I've done 2 already which is the mg Freedom 2.0 and Barbatos. Now I'm going to do a mg Unicorn and from there an Exia and 00 Quanta.

Did you still have to look at the instructions? because you’re such an expert that it looks like you no longer need to. I like to lay all of my plastic trees on the floor the way it’s set up on the diagram and meticulously follow the instructions step by step since I’m not an expert. I’m curious about the size as well

The semi transparent look is quite nice. The size is a bit of an issue though. It feels accurate to have Gundam appear larger in scale to other mobile suit Gunpla but finding space and location for it would be an absolute pain.

Considering how well you know the model, did you even need the instructions for assembly? I wonder if it is the cost and design prohibition for the mega size. If those mega models were Transformers, I would almost say Titan size.
