Taun-Chi Gaming Guess what, I'm not a native english speaker. I was born and raised in another cultural environment, not even a germanic type of language, from a pure linguistical point of view. But english is necessary and so I was educated and now I can express myself quite properly, and I can distinguish so many various english accents. You gotta know english in this world. Japan is definitely failing in this regard. They do not know how to speak english, and hearing a thick british accent and calling it SPANISH! gives you the relevance of the problem.

Maybe now when she's abroad, she only hangs out with Brittish, Australian and American people? I'm Swedish and I have an accent of course since my first language isn't English, but it changes when I speak to someone who speaks English fluently for a long time. Maybe it's the same thing for those who speak English as a first language but are exposed to different kinds of dialects.

I have an idea for a follow up on this video: KZbinrs that speak english non-natively. Germans, Sweeds, Italians, Brazilians, Dutchmen, Frenchmen, Russians. Or something else: Have a geographic map without borders or names on it and tell them to point out some countries they might know, but probably can't locate, like Somalia, Quatar, Egypt (assuming they didn't watch Jojo), Netherlands, Portugal, Iceland, Cuba, Germany.

@Русс град I guess you are slavic. Your people came from the area near the Volga river and expandend in the rest of Europe, mixing with the local original population, so yes, you are mixed. British people are a mix of neolithic people, Celts, Romans and Germanic people who came from northern Germany. We Italians are indeed mixed, but arabs( but in reality the arabs in Sicily were islamized berbers from maghreb) or germanic peoples were a little population and they didn't affect so much italian genetics. The great part of italians descend from paleolithic europeans, population from the middle east(who started neolithic age in Europe) and indo europeans (italic peoples, greeks and celts)

***** No it's not lol, as a european who is way further away from Australia than Japan we learned that shit in like middle school. Australia is almost a whole continent by itself, everybody learned that shti in school. I'm pretty sure a vast majority of european people could tell you that they speak English in Australia. And what's this about patriotism? I'm European, not Australian so I don't know what you're talking about, it's just common geographical knowledge that everyone learns in compulsary eduation. (in first world countries at least), saying that knowing the language of Australia is the same as knowing the language for example Angola is incredibly ignorant. Also, any person with a compulsary education and common sense would most likely know the languages spoken in the top 15 economically biggest countries.

Geography is probably one of the most diverse studies in the world as it covers sciences like geology, glaciology, economical studies, ecology and many more. I've studied a lot of geography in school because I was in a class that specialised economy, needless to say, most of our lessons were about economy, agriculture, marketing and ecology in our own country, that alone took us more than 2 years.

I took Geography in high school and we learned really in depth stuff like how granite landforms came about, the processes involved etc, but we never learned where the countries are. I thought Peru was near the Himalayas until someone corrected me and told me it was in South America lol much fail

This is basically the reverse of "asian people all look the same". Good to see the reverse is the same. The New Zealand one was amusing. Could they all hear what people were saying? I would've thought they could tell.a English from Spanish for example - it's easy to tell Japanese from Chinese or Korean for example.

Its interesting that they all guessed based on appearance/color first. Actually...most of them, it seemed like they didnt listen to the accents at all. Was it a bit loud there and hard for them to hear, or is it just natural for japanese to guess based on appearance first or only? I love how the girl was from canada because of her white skin. Someone needs to tell her that Canada is one of the most multicultural countries on earth. It would make more sense to make that stereotype about like...poland, lol.

+Seage Speaks There's also the fact that it's hard to differentiate peoples' accents when they're talking in a completely different language. It's much easier in general to guess this kind of stuff by appearance in those cases.

Thanks for all these great videos, Yuta. I'd love to see interviews about black companies, and situations where "warikomi" is ok. I keep hearing that it's bad and Japanese people don't do it, but it happens all the time, especially in Tokyo train stations. I confess I didn't pick up on the New Zealander in this video, despite being a New Zealander myself. I've heard it's really difficult for Japanese (and probably other) people who don't speak English well to pick up on accents, so it makes sense that they were guessing from appearance.

huh, interesting how they don't seem to have a sense of ethnic differences around the world. wonder if it's just the case of those few interviewees or if that's the mindset for most Japanese people...... that they just don't care about the wider world much... -yeah okay i may be studying abroad but even before then, in the 18 years i grew up in Hong Kong, because I've hung around English language sites so much, I always had a general understanding of most first world countries...-

***** haha. i feel like that seems to be a trend for most first world superpowers..... especially the ones with large territories. because their own country is already so massive in size and influence, there's little reason for them to learn about the world outside. Europe is only a different case because of the union and close borders i suppose :P

I don't even know how you could do it as a video, but it would be cool to see a video on how Japanese people see media from other countries. I know that Hollywood is going to come out a lot, but I think it would be cool to see Japanese people who are as interested in western animation and comic, for example, as westerners are in anime and manga. I know that this is very common among artists: Katsuhiro Otomo was very into European comics, and that kinda shows in his works (and adaptations)... but I don't know if it is among everyday Japanese people. Now where could you find people who have something to say about something so niche? I don't know, I suppose it would be difficult. Maybe specialised libraries or conventions, although I don't know if there are conventions of that kind in Japan.
@TheDecatonkeil
@TheDecatonkeil 8 жыл бұрын
+Michał Antoni Zienkiewicz's Freecks Show Not exacly what I meant, but why not? That could also be interesting, but it would be a bit different, like a React show. I mean more asking them about what they think, if they're interested... As I say, it's something very niche, and if Yuta doesn't choose the place carefully to get the kind of answers that he would need, most everyone would answer that they don't have any particular interest. I don't even know if it's possible to do it! XD
