Getting the Japanese hair straightening treatment would be a commitment that I WILL never regret. I opened up to my grandma about it and she thought it was somewhat self hatred and insecurity of my hair. I have 3c-4a hair and it is so hard to style, keep conditioned, define and maintain in "general". The thing she misunderstands is that, I don't hate the look of my hair because ALL hair types and textures are beautiful...but it's hard to maintain depending on your hair type. I have a love-hate relationship with my hair because it doesn't want to work with me. What's the point of having hair if you can't style it. I also don't want to go bald because having no hair doesn't suit how I authentically want to express myself and the look I've been trying to achieve for years. So when it comes to my natural hair...it's either the treatment or I'm going bald. I don't have an insecurity about my hair, I just don't feel it serves me. I'm glad you also educated me about the prices, time and what they do to get your hair like this. I am really trying to get it soon. I felt somewhat fearful because though I want to get it...I feel like it will also have me step out my comfort zone because like you said it's "permanent". But informing me about it actually helped with my fears about it so now I feel very confident and ready! If I do feel scared, I have to remember why I got it in the first place.

I can definitely relate so much! It’s so hard to appreciate your hair if you can’t even manage it yourself. You just get so frustrated and there are definitely times I thought of shaving it off lol people also give you a hard time because they think you don’t appreciate where you come from since your hair is a big representation of that but you’re right, they just don’t understand how hard it can be JUST to style it which is a form of expressing yourself and what makes you unique. I am so glad this video was helpful for you and I wish you the best of luck on your hair journey :) Much love! 💗

Girl, you are not alone. I felt very similar growing up. I'm biracial with a white mom and she didn't really know what to do with it either. She was an amazing mom and did try to style it, but I was so picky that I would then take it out and put it in a tight bun with like half a gallon of gel lol. I started flat ironing in 6th grade then went with my natural curls many years later. Recently, I've started flat ironing again just for the convenience of being able to wake up, run a comb through it easily, and go. Don't get me wrong, I loved my natural curls too, but straightening is just so much easier. Found this video in the process of doing research into Japanese hair straightening for even MORE convenience. At the end of the day, people should be able to do what they want with their hair without judgement whether its straight, curly, in braids, whatever.

Your hair was always beautiful. People pay for hair like that now.🤭 I understand what you mean about straight hair. I'm a straight haired natural (4b) and I just prefer my hair straight because it's easy. I did the natural thing for years but I just don't have the time for the upkeep now. I've been looking into Japanese straightening so I can have quick blow drying sessions and not have to use a flat iron after. Great video, love the honesty.

OMG IM WITH U GIRL! my mom is also filipina and throughout the years she didn't really know what to do with my hair, since it is so crazy and thick and curly. Like I unfortunately went through the exact same story you explained and I would flat iron every day cuz I loved my hair straight. I continued to do this up until high school and now after watching ur vid and how I related to you SO much I'm thinking the japanese hair straightening is PERFECT for me to stop and finally get away from the flat iron without having to worry about my hair and the suffering after all these years from detangling, managing, straightening, etc. And again, to anyone out there with curly hair I want u to know it's beautiful, all hair types are so beautiful. Don't ever let anyone bring u down for embracing your hair. I have been bullied so much for it and honestly, I wish I could have told my younger self to leave it alone, and not to care so much of what other people should tell you how you are supposed to look like.

Multiracial girl here. White/French dad and mixed mom she is Indian,black African,Chinese/Vietnamese mix. Grew up with puffy,thick and wavy altogether hair.Had to get my hair blow-dried and straightened every single days with tons of serum,creams etc couldn't sweat or get my hair wet or anything had to pretty much keep my hair tied and tidy to go to school and kids would've bully me and put water,chewing gum and stuff in my hair to ruin it and say I've got pubes as hair it was awful...grew up ashamed of my hair and annoyed all the time. Did relaxers and treatments from the age of 16 until recently where I discovered Japanese straightening perm. My husband is Japanese so he took me to a Japanese hair salon to get myself a perm and it changed my life forever no more straightener,blow-dry or even stay home whenever it rains or it's humid it stays pin straight and takes only 10 minutes to dry. The BEST decision EVER never going back. Ordered a kit to do it at home as it is too expensive for me to afford ever 5 to 6 months $75 AUD you get a full Shiseido kit. Will give it a try.

I can relate with you even though I am natural but it does not matter how we choose to do our hair as long it's healthy and we are happy. My hair has always been very thick and tight curled even when I use to be a relaxer queen it still was very thick and the relaxers did not last long after awhile and I did not know anything about heat protections either and neither did my mom. I had a relaxer since 2016 until I decided to go natural January 8, 2017 and I transition for six months before then. After going natural I learned to appreciate my hair for who it is but no matter whether you relax or go natural there will always be a journey but it depends on what works for you and if you want to put in time. For the first time in my life my hair is half way down my back and I dyed it honey blonde too.🤗♥️ Also we all are still learning our hair so do not feel rush or bad because that is what hair is a journey to a new beginning and what might work my hair might not work for you. Hair is our beauty mark and we can change it however we want and that's the beauty of it all.

Awesome video! I am also Mixed! My mom literally had pin straight hair like you from the European and Native American side! My texture has always been super soft and fine yet my hair poofs and frizzes super easy! My curls were always kinky until I did Japanese Reconditioning! Loved it so so much! People that don't have to worry about hair upkeep so much don't understand! I was adopted by a fully white family and bullied by students who saw me as so different! It Made me hate my hair and who I was! I allowed my sisters friend to explore on my hair since I was like 8. She did chemical straightening on my hair and I always loved the chance it could be straight like everyone else was! My adopted dad even made fun of me because my adopted mom had to help me with my hair through high-school! All I knew how to do was a Pony tail! Still kinda do. I just couldn't manage it! When it's straight it just looks so much better! So I know exactly what you're saying!! Stay strong and it's your hair, Beautiful!! You got it! I will definitely be trying Patrick on my Japanese Thermal Straightening! I live near LA and it's a bit of a drive but will be worth it, thanks for sharing with us!! xx ❤ 😘

This is so relateable, I have had this same experience of how my hair was as a kid, a lack of hair mentor because my mum didn't have the knowledge of my hair type. I have let it go naturally curly since 2019 and it just takes so much effort to maintain, style, look after. I do prefer the way my hair looks when it's not curly... atm I hate the way it looks most of the time, constantly wear it in a bun and just am sick of how much effort it takes to make my curls look good. I just prefer a low effort kind of style with my hair so I am going to get a type of straightening treatment this week.

Your hair looks beautiful. I completely empathize with your frustration with wearing your natural hair. I love my natural hair. I have been completely natural for decades. But it just wasn’t jiving with my lifestyle. It’s a lot to manage so I went back to relaxing. I just prefer the upkeep and how it looks on me. I prefer the lesser expensive lye relaxer since I have to maintain my roots at least every 12 weeks. My hair needs extra care because breakage is my problem. So I limit direct heat by roller settting, then a light pass with the flat iron. I maintain the style with a cross wrap at night. I don’t schill for Olaplex but the treatment line has been a game changer. And yes find the most experienced hair technician you can afford. Certain treatments are just left to the professionals. Best wishes to you

I prefer my hair straight too. It’s 10x easier to grow and maintain. I have thick/coarse hair and have the tightest curls naturally. My hair is now straight but still has that “volume” if I don’t use a flat iron. But as a guy, a lot of people don’t expect my hair to look so nice. They always compare it to a wig or extensions 💀😟 I plan to grow my hair to at last chest or stomach length. It took almost a year to grow from shoulder to just past collarbone 😟

This was a very good video! And your thesis was perfectly delivered at the end. And I can relate for myself with the bullying at school about my hair and other things regarding my existence and also I can relate with having two girls and a son with curly, kinky, silky, wavy thick long hair all on one head 🙄😩😤. Fortunately my son’s hair was a very cute dark curly tapered fro…so it was more manageable , However, my girls hair ❓Plus my hair ❓If we had plans to go somewhere it would take us hours to get ready just to do all of our hair. My then husband….their father…didn’t help. I would show up exhausted and ppl didn’t understand. So I decided to cut my hair off so it’s easier for me to get ready, but I didn’t like short hair on me though. Fortunately I’m a licensed cosmetologist so I knew how to take care of my girls’ hair. They are in their early twenties now and their hair is healthy. But it took at least an hour and a half on each girl.

Can you put waves or curls in it with a curling iron?
@imanibautista
@imanibautista 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! If you are asking if it is okay to do so after the treatment then the answer is absolutely, yes! Just as long as you do it after the 72hr processing time. If you’re just wondering if the style will hold when you try to curl or wave it, honestly, I am not big on curling my hair anymore so I haven’t really tried it but I do believe so! When I run the flat iron through my hair often times I will bump it or flip it at the ends to give it some body and it seems to hold very well :) However, it also depends on your hair type. My hair is extremely fine/thin so it usually holds styles pretty well regardless. If your hair is on the thicker side and more heavy it may have a bit more trouble holding the curl but just a little flexible hairspray should do the trick :)

Hi there :) It would very much depend on if you have significant damage to your hair from the straightening. I would definitely say to make a consultation appointment with a trusted stylist so that they can examine it and see if you can go ahead with the treatment. As for wearing your hair straight for the actual “treatment” appointment I would recommend not to do so since they will be straightening your hair anyway. The main thing is having your hair as clean as possible when you go in and making sure not to put any product in it. This won’t be a deal breaker though because they will also wash your hair when you get there to ensure that it is super clean. Also, I 100% understand not wanting to go out with your hair not straightened. I was and still am the same way! I just bundled my hair up and wore a hat to my appointment to make me feel more comfortable about going out. You can always do that if you are okay with it. I believe the stylist will more than likely want your hair in it’s natural state when starting out so I’d try your best not to straighten that day and leave it to them! Hopefully this was helpful :)

I too have the Japanese Hair Straightening treatment! Best hair decision I ever made. I would definitely say to one of your last points about not going to a stylist that charges a low amount: Don't be turned off to a low price! I paid $240 for a root touch up plus $20 for a trim total being $280. I go to an Chinese owned salon and they have it where multiple stylist do one person if possible. **This can be good or bad simply due to the fact that different techniques will be used. I ask for one stylist to do the 1st straightening. The con of this is that they weren't used to my curl pattern type 4b/a hair. They made some mistakes but quickly adjusted it to my liking. Go to a stylist with experience doing this treatment and who can work with your hairtype. **generally (if anyone is in the US) this treatment is much more expensive on the west coast. I live in NC (east coast) and only pay the amount listed above for the same result. Do your research simple as that.

I really wanna get Japanese hair straightening done like I'd die to have straight hair. I'm ftm and I have no way of styling my hair to look more masculine and there are a few hairstyle that I have in mind but they only work for straight hair. I already asked my family if I could get it done but they said things like "we don't want you to ruin your hair. We want you to have hair by 30." I'm pretty sure i can grow my hair out by then in case something goes wrong but whatever 🤷‍♂️. As a mixed person and being literally one of the two people in my family that is coloured they just don't understand how hard it is for me to handle, they see how I struggle and it's easy for them to say "i know it's hard" yes you see that it's hard but you don't know exactly what I go through😅. Well as the annoying person I am I will beg for it, I mean we only live once 🤷‍♂️. I'm at the edge and I can't stand my curly hair anymore.
