The smile on her face when she said that the new lady would take over her life’s work was so precious. You can tell she didn’t want the tradition to disappear.

I hope Japan realizes they have a national treasure right there. All the history she has first hand. I hope the younger generations stop in, buy dumplings, and talk with her. The information she has can't be found on Google. ❤

Those are beautiful. Nicely charred and generous with tare, and I bet they're delicious. Tezukuri (handmade) means there's no symmetry. The only constant is the passion of the artisan, and obaachan is doing this for seven decades. That's a good example of wabi-sabi aesthetics. Real beauty is found on "imperfection". How enticing is a senbei with little "imperfections" here and there. How appealing is a grilled ayu with that ondulating form, salt spreaded unevenly through its body. A rustic clay hut. The fading colors of age. Autumn leaves on a street. Dango is simple, it doesn't ask for fanciness. It complements simple things, like freshly brewed tea. It shouldn't change. We got so many snacks nowadays, so many flavors but a favorite flavor has an emotional gravitas to it. Dango should never change.

This is the reason I love Japanese culture, it’s people, it’s gastronomy. I hope they continue her traditional ways as she retires her place in this society will be remembered with pride and honor
The pride of craft, the joy in doing this kind of work, and the idea that people long lived are still quite active....only a few of the things I love about these films from Japan. What a delight. Thank you!!!

I like that there is no talking. Just silent work. Its like meditation
Seeing grandmother's like this, makes me think of my aging grandma. 😢 making food like this, in the quiet, reminds me of watching my grandma make Lumpia during the Summer.

That also the reflection of community... Means the community are supportive with them and appreciate their products. They let them work... Seniors who are idle and gossipers have short and lonely life.
❤ Tão agradável, ver essa vovó, Trabalhando. Admiro muito o Japão. Seus Ancestrais, são incríveis 👏👏👏🤩 Esses bolinhos, deu água na boca. 😋😋
