One can boil, or steam, or use dry heat. What maters is that the internal temperature meets a certain temperature at which the wood becomes pliable. And remains pliable for the duration of the process. When making boxes like these, the wood is sufficiently thin that boiling water will plasticize it. People often think the water is what makes the wood pliable, and this can also be the case, but it severely weakens the wood for it to be made wet. So ideally, one does not get it wet. The outer fibers are of the greatest concern were dampening the wood is concerned, because they will come under tension during the bending. When wet, they tear easily. Ways around this are not to make the bend very severe, or to support the outer surface, as they do here with a mold. One can also reduce material thickness, or severity of the bend, but one assumes that has already been reduced to practical limits what any given project. Steam is very dangerous, requires lot of heat to produce, and one has to get rid of the excess vapour. So, if one can avoid producing steam that is a better choice. Stem also forces water right into the wood, and it will take longer to dry out, which may or not be an issue. Boiling water really saturates the surface fibers, but they dry quickly, and moisture will not have reached the center of the wood.

Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly when the man in the video said anything about gloves. That's not what it's about anyway, he must have his reasons. My advice on occupational safety was meant in general terms, for people who perhaps don't have much experience with it. To prevent serious accidents, for whoever.

Its also possible an earthquake brungs the shop to collapse and harms him or on the way to supermarket a drunken bicilist crashes into him. Live is risky in many ways and you can not always beware yourself of any dangers. Why the hell does law says, wear helmet while riding a motorbike, but you can harm your body everyday with liters of alcohol and inhalate cigarete smoke. Mankinds rules are poor ridiculous.

Sure! Big money just burns old trees down to have room for cows etc. (Amazonas etc.) She makes something useful of a part of it, which doesn’t mean that the rest of it isn’t used thoughtfully too…!
@KaiPetro
@KaiPetro 2 ай бұрын
@@kubinka879wood similar to oil is a good carbon store. The waste created here would soon turn back to CO2. Plastic on the other hand is a byproduct of crude that we anyhow dig up. Also wood is not nearly as hygienic as plastic(not single use or styrofoam) and thus not usable in the majority of scenarios. Especially as shown here without coating it would lead to molding if kept wet for long durations and need extensive cleaning. While the effects of micro plastics are still being studied and they do have long term effects, you can't discard it and take up materials that would have immediate effects. If you want to reduce plastic pollution there are many single use and other wastes that can be tackled first before moving to things we need for food hygiene.
