Same. When i saw the music video for black magic, i bagan to stan them at this time, i thought that the group is very diverse. But then i found out last year jesy is white. @@vera8415 agree 100%, I feel like since this is all unravelling people are realizing. I can't speak for everyone obvi but to me there was always something off about her you know? And it wasn't anything to do with the way she looked or compared to the other girls (obvi always knew about the blackfishing but the bullying and shit) but more she sometimes felt distanced or standoffish with others, especially recently with Leigh, like on The Search where they had different opinions and Jesy was just being rude about it like? there is no reason for that. And to be honest my heart aches for Leigh and the girls, they were there with Jesy all the time, supported her when she was at her worst and catered their studio sessions to fit around how she was feeling and then with the documentary they supported her too and then when it came to Leigh and Jade's docu she didn't say shit or support them or anything and said that "they handled it better" like no. They literally made this whole thing to show that couldn't handle it and it isn't something they should have to handle and she completely dismissed them. She just seems so cold and I also thought the reason she left was because of the bullying and all and then to release music within the year? something defo went on behind the scenes that we probably won't ever hear about

I have also noticed that in almost all their music videos, concerts, appearances Jesy shows the most skin out of all the girls and wears the most revealing outfits. She wore the most outfits that deliberately showed off her figure. No one made her do that, she chose to. For me it’s always appalling to look back and realize just how self-centered Jesy was this entire time. Leigh was treated differently, even by fans, for being black. Jade was barely out of the hospital after almost dying from the consequences of her eating disorder. And after Zayn left One Direction in 2015, Perrie was bombarded with hate for allegedly "causing" his leaving somehow and was attacked saying she was the reason multiple fans took their lives, in addition to the fact that she suffers from anxiety disorder. So yes, Jesy had a tough time, no one will deny this, but it is absolutely wrong of her to act like the others had an easy ride. The thing that really gets to me is that, even if something bad has happened between Jesy and Leigh and they really hate each other, Jesy should never have sat their quietly and allowed Nicki to attack her like that. She has positioned herself as an advocate for anti-bullying for years now, every interview she has done since leaving LM has been heavily focused on the damaging effects of online hate. She sat in silence knowing that her and Nicki’s fans would jump on this and immediately start sending hate. She knows how people sending her cruel messages seriously damaged her mental health, so she knows the damage that people sending Leigh these messages could do to her, especially being postpartum which is one of the most vulnerable times of a woman’s life. If she had just interrupted Nicki, said “I appreciate you standing up for me, but I’m not comfortable calling people names on the internet”, she would have come away looking like the bigger person and people would have respected her so much more. Miley did take advantage of Hip Hop culture to elevate her bangerz era but she never dressed like a black person , she was still a white woman doing hip-hop infused sound music while here we have Jessy desperately trying to appear like a mixed black woman as if our Natural skin colour and features are an accessory . i’ve never been a super dedicated mixer but i’ve followed the group casually and gotten all of their albums through the years and when i heard about jesy taking a hiatus last year and then leaving officially i was very sad. i would never wish the amount of body shaming and hate she got for her looks on anyone, but having been bullied doesn’t give her a free pass to never get called out when there are valid criticisms to be made. i wonder if she ever watched leigh’s documentary herself, cause i can’t imagine hearing someone who’s been supporting me and being like a sister to me for over a decade opening up like that about how her struggles and just being like “...well anyways, i have an appointment at the tanning salon” also people keep calling leigh jealous and yet she’s still and incredibly talented and beautiful woman who is celebrating 10 years as a member of one of the biggest pop acts of our time AND recently stared a family which she had wanted to do for a long time, all things considered she’s doing pretty well methinks so jealous of what exactly? *edit to add that ever since she left, little mix have not spoken ill about her, have wished her the best multiple times, and included her in their brit award speech. we’ve all seen how more often than not when a girl group or boy group member leaves, the rest of the band ends up pretending they were never there, so imo this shows how they really had a good chemistry and dynamic among them, and makes jesy’s actions even more disappointing

thank you so much for covering this. the most frustrating thing about this situation is the way people are trying to paint this narrative that jesy is being "sabotaged" and trying to make her the victim in this when she isn't. jesy's black fishing has been an ongoing conversation since the glory days/LM5 era, leigh anne and jade brought it up during the sweet melody MV, people brought it up when she initially went solo, and now it's blown up into this. point being, jesy has had countless opportunities to sit down with herself and do the work but she just refuses to do so. i get that jesy has been through a lot, but her struggles aren't a get out of jail free card for people to wave around when she's perpetuating negative stereotypes about black men being "bad" and "hood," things that contribute to black men being viewed as "dangerous" and being imprisoned and/or killed in the first place. above all else i really do feel for leigh anne right now, especially considering the fact that she just had two babies. i can only imagine how painful it is to watch somebody you considered to be a sister take on all of the attributes that you were discriminated against for, and profiting off of those things when she never actually cared about your culture in the first place. and jesy having the nerve to sit there and laugh as nicki dragged her like-?? she deserves an apology, period.

I know jesy tries to say that she's tan because she's been on vacation, etc. But it's obvious she's lying because her skin is too nice for someone to tan in the sun or sunbed to maintain that level of darkness. I grew up in the early 2000s where a lot of white girls lived in the tanning bed and their skin ALWAYS shows hella signs of aging. So it's obvious that she's choosing to spray tan this dark. When Jesy says "She's better at dealing with it than I am". . . This is the classic undermining of a Black woman's humanity that is not considered racism but is probably one of the worst and most insidious kinds. You see it in everyday society, in workplaces, in hospitals--particularly childbirth situations where Black women are less likely to be believed about pain thresholds, etc. They are deemed "hardier", more "resilient", etc., as if their feelings don't matter, or as if they have no right to complain. It's hurtful when strangers treat you like this, but when the same indifference comes from close friends, workmates and family members (because Blacks are often racist amongst themselves within their own familial groups [esp. with Colourism]) it can be utterly devastating. If this was Jesy's attitude to Leigh's struggles, then it makes sense that she would dismiss her concerns over blackfishing, and it also makes sense that the relationship between the two would become strained over time. But they are still very young people, and I hope that in time Jesy will come to understand and show some remorse for her dismissive attitude towards her Black bandmate, and esp. for throwing her under the bus with Nicki Minaj... humiliating her so publicly in what seemed like an unprovoked attack. Anyway, I am always wary of White people who prattle on about how much they "love" Black culture, music etc. because these are the very same people who show the least empathy towards the Black people in their lives, esp. the Black women.

I suggest typing in the search bar and find a few videos to be educated by black women on how blackfishing affects us & how it’s the modern day minstrel show. It is essentially a collection of their biggest singles from their previous 6 albums and a couple of new songs. I really hope their team takes this opportunity to promote and hopefully set tour dates in the US. Them breaking out in the US has been long overdue. People who have achieved not even 1% of what little mix has have tours in the US, it's really sad that they don't come here. PROMOTE LM and with the black fishing, I don't hate Jesy as many mixers, I'm mad she just let Nicki talk like thatabout Leigh Anne and that she just thinks others struggles aren't important as hers but I don't hate her, and many mixers just hate them because she bertrayed Leigh Anne and the other girls, but the black fishing is bad, and even Leigh Anne herself has pointed out in the past about those attitudes and she just ignored it and now made it even worse, like, this is the music she wanted lm to make? Because if it is, I'm glad they didn't (actually when I started staning lm i thought Perrie was the only white woman) Honestly i was all for her solo carrier and I liked the melody of the song not gonna lie but that's a sample and the lyrics honestly are trash and she has gone for like the "cool bad girl" image (which isn't my style) and worse she is black fishing while doing it implaying that black girls are bad girls (and black men are nasty and rude) which is harmful for the black community. I've come to discover that LM are hella talented though and all seem super lovely. I feel that LM has blown in the US, is because their sound is very British Pop with elements of dance/ urban sounds and it seems like US audiences don't like that fusion style. It works over here in the UK but US people love strictly rnb, rap. Trap etc. Hence why BTS and BP are doing well eventhough you don't know Korean. Most of these people are signed to labels with whole ass PR departments; why are fans having to, effectively, do their job for little to no money or recognition (outside of the fandom)?! Idk, seems kind of weird, if you ask me. Not that fans are organizing these projects and events, mind you. Shit's impressive, if you ask. StationKAI, an EXO Kai fanpage on Twitter, organized a multi city fan meeting this past weekend for Erigom (EXO Kai's fandom name) called Kai-fe. I'm simplifying for brevity because it wasn't just a fan meeting, but I mean... Even if it was, that shit is still impressive as hell!! But my issue is that these fandom projects and events are taking place because the people they're being done for are being promoted the way they should be. It's weird. It's real fuckin' weird.

yeah, honestly labels just realized that they can do the bare minimum but because fans care about their artists, they'll still get money regardless, which is sad. if they put in actual effort AND on top of that effort you add the fan effort, that'd be bringing them even bigger bucks, so it kinda doesn't make sense. I'm part of the china48 fandom and the companies managing those groups are the perfect example of doing the bare minimum, pretty much making fans do ALL the work and then profiting millions off the artist and fan effort just to give back dust to both fans and artists.

I’ve been saying since day 1 I wish she would’ve just admitted she left because of an inferiority complex not only because of the internet but because she felt she couldn’t compare to her members even though she was in the same league with them. I still can’t believe she chose this route and chose to break the bond she had with the people who knew her struggles the most and helped her through it. It was dead serious betrayal in my eyes like the way Jesy spun it and made it seem like everyone but her was the problem, letting Nicki talk about Little Mix & their bodies like that… it was disgusting. The sad part is Jesy only laughed because for once, FOR ONCE, she didn’t feel like the outcast. She didn’t get picked at. For once she didn’t have to hear cruel things heard at her and could instead laugh at her former sisters instead of having respect for their group and sisterhood to tell Nicki to stop. Jesy had no balls & she had no integrity. That’s why my foot will always be on her fans necks cause they are fans of a perpetual victim. Jesy is always pointing the finger at everyone but herself.

You gotta think how much Jessy would've heard about Leigh-Anne's struggles as a black woman not even publicly but also PRIVATELY. Pleaseeee do a vid on how two faced Nicki is and HAS been. They way she weaponises her race to get ppl on her side and simultaneously victimise herself by using the race card when nothing aren’t in her favour. Not to mention how she’s surrounded and HAS surrounded herself around S word predators. She even married one and it’s reflective of her true self. If you can sleep next to a S word offender and have a baby with him, you’re okay with their actions, either because you are one too or you think you’ll change him or his behaviour. Something off with Nicki

I'm Aussie & little mix made it over here& I'm shocked America never picked up on them. Touch is such an outstanding pop song that would of killed on US radio. I saw the girls in concert on the get weird tour & they know how to put on a show. I don't follow everything they do & don't listen to all their music but they're very talented. All this Jesy stuff is just ugh. Like what Nicki did is so disgusting. I wanted to like Jesys song but when I heard the lyrics, saw the video I was like nah & the song isn't great. She just tried to stereotype & that's just not on. Cool if you want to get a spray tan or get a tan in the sun for a little glow or colour but it's a completely different thing when people actually think you're a person of colour or mixed bc you've tanned that hard & look so different to your actual skin colour.

Thank you so much for this video, I hope it blows up. I got into LM once LM5 came out, but I wasn’t really invested in that album. During 2020 when Confetti promo started, I fell down a rabbit hole and fell in love with all of the women. Jesy was my favorite because I loved her voice and personality. I remember being devastated when she left the group, but I was still happy that she was pursing something she wanted to do. Now, I’m highly conflicted. Is it wrong for me to still root for Jesy and hope that she gets the help she needs? That she realizes the blackfishing and lack of care about Leigh-Anne is very distasteful? I want to see Jesy rise from this, and the less she says the more concerned I get. I just really hope she works things out and hopefully this can all be put behind us. As for LM as a three, I think they’re amazing though and Between Us is so impressive w/the new tracks. The US has gotta get behind them now (coming from someone in NY lol)

This is the first video of yours I've come across and I really like the way you presented all the information. I'm from the UK so have watched Little Mix from day 1 on X Factor. Jesy definitely was treated awfully by the press and public at the beginning, and although it settled down obviously that sticks with someone. However, her attitude and refusal to accept that she's blackfishing has now given people a legit reason to not be a fan of her and I feel like she's just lumping it in with the 'bullying'. Also Boyz is shit and doesn't sound anything like the good old 90s/early 00s R&B I remember, so I don't know what the hell she thinks she's doing. Little Mix are smashing it as a trio and good on them 💖

Little Mix was special because their main motivation for a record deal was friendship. They didn’t have money to visit each other so they had to win to stay together. They worked hard, not for ego, money, status or fame. They did it because they wanted to be together. What really makes a group’s music shine is their chemistry and genuine love between members. They have been through so much sexism, belittling, and sabotage by their own team. I fully believe that in the end, the bond grew because of these challenges. So much so that love, self reflection and forgiveness will be there through these tough times.

This was so well structured and right on point. As much as context is important, all the drama surrounding this issue ceases to matter when some fans who have literally been supporting Jesy for years only just discovered that she’s not mixed race…. I mean that just says it all. I’m against people getting bullied for bullying sake, so I really hope people would stop sending Jesy hate, but she has to assist that process by advising her people to cease attempting to paint Leigh as a bully, because that’s not helpful to anyone.

I’ve thought about this for a while so I wanted to share my thoughts. People always comment on Jesy being so hated in any conversation about her, good or bad, like a form of defence but after her documentary the whole fandom came together to support her (since 2019) and since then she has been one of the most loved members (Many people loved her before this anyway). But there are so many videos of Leigh being the only one not cheered for, most videos of her get less views then the rest of the girls and I believe she has the least followers on all accounts. People comment on jade’s body often and she’s had a tough past with anorexia, anytime you compliment Perrie there’s an argument about how good is she really or ‘you should love all the girls’. She’s also struggled with anxiety and panick attacks and hate for the whole zayn situation (never mind the actual breakup situation). Point is, they’ve all been through pain in their life, to some extent everyone does, Jesy’s mental health and pain is not an excuse (it is a reason but people don’t use it as such). I don’t blame Jesy for getting into her own head with how she may or may not feel about the hate or the girls, but I do blame her fandom, and by extension her (for playing the victim), for constantly using it as a get-out-of-jail-free card. Just because someone has struggled in the past doesn’t mean they can’t face criticism. There also needs to be the distinction between hate and valid criticism because a lot of people just got shut down in the conversation by getting called haters. I mentioned before her self esteem issues were a reason for the black fishing and I want to elaborate on that because I’m not sure of it makes sense. When you have those sorts of issues you want to be like everyone else or what others or yourself deem ‘beautiful’. And for Jesy, this may have been stereotypical black features and everything else she stole. This, again, doesn’t mean she should be aloud to do it though. Another thing that is weird to me is that (more of a suggestion) Jesy despite being open about struggling with body image issues is taking part in a culture which creates it. This is because she photoshops her images, has plastic surgery but hasn’t admitted it (I don’t think plastic surgery is bad but I do think you should be honest about it) and all of her photos are clearly largely staged and take a lot of modelling. I understand it’s probably insecurity that wants her to be perfect but you’ll never overcome anything by covering your flaws and making everyone believe your perfect. Jesy Nelson fans saying ‘__ ruined her career’ need to grow up. Nothing any member of little mix have said has been 100% from them or public, and the one thing they did say was they didn’t support Blackfishing. You have to accept she did this to herself and someone should have told her (if she didn’t know) that people would react that way, shoving it on little mix is really bitter and you seem like children. Here are some opinions (emphasis on opinion): 1. Jesy’s career is pretty much doomed, a lot of her fan base came from little mix so when the drama happened a lot of her fans left, another group of people who supported her were Nicki Minaj fans who won’t care beyond the songs typically. Most people either know her from little mix or from the drama so her career will either be small and genuine or full of controversy constantly which seems like the opposite of what she wanted. 2. The excuse that ‘people didn’t talk about Blackfishing until she left’ is wrong on three accounts. First, she has been called out since 2018 but small groups of people. Secondly, her drastic change of appearance came during Confetti specifically the sweet melody video but her actions didn’t change till she left the group. Thirdly, she was called out as much because she was in a group with a large fan base. Not only would the fan base defend her but she also couldn’t get as personally targeted, cancelled or pin pointed because the girls could defend her and she wasn’t the centre of attention which is why I found the idea to leave the group strange. I know she said it’s so she wouldn’t get compared to the girls but at the same time they would have been a blanket of support (and distraction) and they would understand her well, she probably doesn’t really have that anymore. 3. I think Jesy is surrounded by ‘yes’ people. This one is purely speculation. If the people around Jesy as anything like her fans, they would do and say anything to make her happy, this may include the classic ‘these people are just haters who are trying to bring you down and you shouldn’t listen to them’. This may be why she hasn’t changed behaviour or why she is seems so ignorant (I realise I haven’t touched on that but it’s such a long conversation for something people won’t read anyway so I won’t bother) Finally (for now anyway), people need to stop making assumptions about everything, which is kind of ironic and hypocritical but anyway. We don’t know this people, just because something happened now doesn’t mean they were never friends but at the same time, it’s unrealistic to think they always got along. We don’t know whether Jesy was jealous or thought she was better then them or when the girls were informed or when Jesy decided she would leave, we’ve heard many stories from Jesy, insiders or random people with theories but she can’t be 100% until everyone in the situation backs the story up. And I understand fans who now look back on Jesy a lot more negatively, we don’t want to see people we like negatively but when something has happened it can open your eyes or change your view. Sorry this is long and may have mistakes. I just wanted to share things I’m pondering and I don’t won’t anyway so if I made a mistake I’m happy to hear respectful opinions. If you got this far congratulations, I wrote more than I planned to.

@@Senate300 that is a very good analysis, I completely agree. @@Rachel-ft7hm I guess she like the rest of the band had it in her to be a solo artist. But my reaction to Jesy's release Boyz so soon after leaving Little Mix was "you are not ready". This overall video is brilliant. Wish you all the best in your music business journey. The ladies definitely deserved/deserve more in the American market and the crazy thing is they actually have the TALENT LEVEL especially live to smash it. Jesy has got so self absorbed it's unfortunately clouded her judgement of what her other band mates went through. In some ways I actually believe she doesn't understand the levels of what she's doing because she's been so mentally damaged. What she needs to not do is act deaf, be open to the wrongs, missteps and make those adjustments because she very talented. Nicki just really made things about herself like everyone is annoyed because Jesy did a song with her & jealous! The most ignorant clownery from Onika and glad even some of her own fans put her in place. Overall I just want all the ladies to be smart and intelligent about the next moves in their careers.
