Wow! Gotta' be honest Jason, I'm one of those 'non' Fairlight boys, do as much as you can on the edit page, then leave well enough alone. I thought I'd watch maybe 2-3 minutes of this video "What! An hour and a quarter of boring Fairlight?" Then head on back to something else. Watched the whole thing. To anyone else out there who feels intimidated or unsure about this audio business, do yourself a favour and watch this video. Excellent mate. Thank you.

Thanks for watching! Audio isn't that hard once you understand it and develop your ear a bit. I think Color grading and fusion are way harder than Fairlight. 😜

@@JasonYadlovski I was working in the Edit page on a 15 second piece with 5 tracks of thunder and crows cawing, and thought I ought to finally spend some time in Fairlight, and found your video... My Lucky Day! Seriously, the interface is so important to understand, and you just went through in a way so clear that it made me feel like I could "see" into the software. Thanks again.

11:54 - moving tracks around. I'm fairly new to DR, but have years (wow...decades now that I think about it. ugh) in audio production. I'm guessing - you can't change the order of the video tracks because that would determine what gets presented on the screen. Whereas audio, the "upper" layers don't override the "lower" layers like in video. Chances are, in audio you're going to be playing every track that has something on it in that moment in time. @Jason - LOVE your stuff. We have a lot of parallels, too: audio and video creation, running sound at church, that's just the tip of the iceberg. Thank you SO much for the amazing tutorials and sharing your wealth of knowledge. God bless you!!

Hi Jason, do you think we should get Da Vinci Resolve Studio in order to get the maximum benefits from all that you are teaching here? Or do you think the FREE version is enough to create great audio?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure you can do everything I mentioned in this video using the free version. The free version is good enough until you feel like it’s holding you back. The main difference between the free version in the studio version is that the studio version runs smoother overall and will make use of a GPU if you have one. The free version will not utilize the GPU, that’s just a limitation of the free version. The studio version also unlocks a few additional goodies. If you’re doing a lot of video editing, the $295 for the studio version is totally worth it. 👍😁

You're welcome! Sometimes the window for the EQ may be off screen and that's why you don't see it. I forgot the way to 'bring all windows to the front' but I think that's more of a system thing, not necessarily a Resolve thing. But that's where I'd start to look for the problem....🤔

Sir, along with taking lessons from you, I have also started understanding the asscent of English. Hahaha. I am from India and from my experience currently there is no software other than BMDVR which can do full feature film editing, vfx, color and dubbing in one go without going to any other application. There is also a desire to add Hindi and some South Indian languages like Tamil, Kannada and Telugu to transcribe audio and subtitles in the future. It seems to me that India will be the largest user of BMDVR in the future. Thank you

Hi Jason, Thanks for this video, I have a question re Dynamics. When do you use the limiter and how is that different from only using the compressor?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Жыл бұрын
Hi! I don't use the limiter in the dynamics panel. The limiter is a hard cutoff where nothing can go above it. The compressor will compress the audio once it goes above a certain threshold. It doesn't create a hard cutoff for the audio. I only use the limiter on the main bus1 out and set it to around -1db, just to make sure nothing clips. But I use the limiter effect, not the limiter in the dynamics panel. Hoe this helps!

Great presentation Jason! I've spent the last week going through a load of your videos to get a better understanding of Fairlight and audio editing. From what I've gathered from a workflow standpoint you want to set your levels in relation to each other, EQ, dynamics, effects then aim to bring everything up to -14 LUFS and -2db true peak for youtube delivery. Quick question, I do travel vlogs so I'm constantly in different places and environments, say I set EQ or the compressor on a track level and it's fine for one place say like a beach or waterfall then I'm in a different location like indoors, will those settings still be fine as long as I am using the same mic? If not whats the best way to go around that? Thank you for making these videos, you've helped a lot of people!

@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Жыл бұрын
Yes it will install into the free version. Just a heads up, if you have any issues, waves will say that they don’t support in Davinci Resolve. It just means they haven’t tested it and they can’t help you with any questions. If you did think about picking up the studio version, voice, isolation works much, the same as Clarity VX. You should be able to find clarity VX on sale frequently as well.

@@JasonYadlovski Yes, they've already told me that. I've downloaded and installed Waves Central. It shows a lot of products downloaded with it (including Clarity Vx). Of course, it doesn't show it activated, which I assume is because I wanted to try the demo first (per Waves' advice). I'm not sure, though, how to get the plugin to appear in DaVinci Resolve. I should mention that I ran a separate installation for Clarity Vx, and it now shows up in "PluginSubscriptions" in the dashboard.

@Jason Yadlovski yeah that's what I thought, but for some reason it does not give me the option to do that. It shows the 2 bus. One of which is the second one that I want to delete and only has add bus, duplicate. The remove button is grayed out.

Thank you Jason, Watching your videos on voice isolation and dialogue leveler have been extremely helpful. However, I'm having issues rendering from the edit page, my audio track and video tracks are fine on the timeline, but when I go render on Quick Export it renders out of sync. Do you have any suggestions. Johnny Boy

You're welcome! I don't have any ideas about rendering from the Edit page, I've never tried it. I always go to the Deliver tab. I like being able to select my settings for export. I never found the presets to be very good. Here's a video w/ the settings I use in the deliver page, maybe give them a try: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5O7lnmZlsd9ptk

Sure, you could use them for drum groups. I would use a low pass filter to get rid of the higher end frequencies. You don’t need when it comes to drums.

Hey buddy what do you think about Sony wh 1000 xm5 headphones for audio editing
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Жыл бұрын
Hey! I’ve never used them but here’s my thoughts after taking a quick look at them - if editing I DaVinci Resolve, I would not recommend Bluetooth headphones. I’d go wired because often there are issues with Resolve and Bluetooth. There’s also a delay using BT from what I’ve noticed. As for these headphones, I don’t know if they will ‘color’ the sound, like adding extra bass or treble. My guess is that they will similar to a Bose or Beats headphones. That’s not what you want for audio editing. Ideally you want headphones that give you a more true sound to the original audio. I might say you’d be better to save some bucks and go with something like the Sony MDR-7506 for 80 bucks. I’ve got the original of these, the MDR-V6 and they are great. I bet those headphones are great for listening, just might not be the best for audio editing. Hope this helps!

You won't see any scroll slider, they don't have one there. If you've got a track pad, do the same thing you'd do to scroll down a webpage - a 2 finger slide or however you have it set up. That should work....🤔

Hi. Great vid. Thanks. I have an issue where I am adding an audio track they I record directly into Resolve. There is a lot of latency which makes it impossible to record in good sync with any original audio. This is important as I will often add an instrument track over pre-recorded music. How can I fix stop that I can monitor during recording, but without the latency?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Жыл бұрын
There shouldn't be that much latency, but maybe turn off the monitoring so you don't hear the delay while recording. Or maybe optimize the project for smoother playback so Resolve isn't getting bogged down.

@@JasonYadlovski thanks Jason. I'll give that ago. I might also have a look at the settings on my audio interface to win a bit of latency back.

For each Track I have in Fairlight, there are TWO identical green timelines, when I edit one, both are affected. I think this is ugly and annoying, can anyone help me to make it so there is only one Green timeline for each audio track I have?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Жыл бұрын
It's because you have a Stereo track, that is your right and left channels. You can change the track to a mono track, then you'll only see 1. But your track will be in mono vs stereo.

When you said you were going to speak to the "Fairlight Interface" I understood that to be the SX-36 I/O Hardware, which is commonly referred to "Fairlight Audio Interface" ...and its required accelerator card -- where can we get more specific instructions on how to assign inputs and use SX-36 with Resolve? It would be helpful to see how this can be used for ADR mics, etc. There is nothing on this anywhere that I've been able to find.... even BM's videos on the instructions are all about using the fairlight page but nothing on the hardware.
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski Жыл бұрын
Hey Tom! Sorry I didn't provide the info you were looking for. I haven't used the Fairlight interface before, it's overkill for any of the videos I do. I know Casey Faris took a look at one of the interfaces, you can check his video. Or I'd just go to BMD's website and look at the documentation for the specific item you are looking at. Maybe drop BMD an email or something. I'm sure they'd help if you are spending some serious money on a product like that.
