I feel like there are a million tutorials on visuals, but not a lot on audio or how each tool works. You did a really great job of explaining everything. I would like to get more in depth with each of the tools because I think that a lot of videos are just recipes without too much explanation as to what each ingredient does.

The moment you kneel on the floor and thank god that there are actually tutorials with value. A bloke explaining why things are doing what they are doing, after you were about to surrender and throw out your laptop, as ALL the other intro heavy/i am this and that/a lot of people have been asking me/just look at me blokes just explain the tip of the ice berg without knowing ANY background. And they would ask you to subscribe anyway within the first 3 seconds, while this dude makes me subscribe mid way by myself. Awesome.

This is by far the greatest tutorial I have ever seen on KZbin. I really mean that and the reason is, you do something no one else bothers to do. Everyone else just gives the whole "you set this to that and play around" ordeal. You however actually took the time to say "Hey here's how you find the problems and how you fix them if they're there" that EQ bit was really great man thank you

You’re welcome! Glad you found the video helpful. Check out some of my other videos, my style is very similar. I try to keep things simple for everybody. 😁 But when I went through the DaVinci Resolve audio Effects series, I did say you’ve got a play around with things to get the sound you’re looking for. 😜

When normalizing consider using the true peak versus sampled. (Drop down choice). True peak is likely the better Choice unless there is unnatural spikes.

@@JasonYadlovski you have no idea how useful this video was, i shot a wedding and they had no way to plug into the PA system to record the vows so i had to roll with a simple wireless mic on the groom alone (which inadvertently got moved to the inside of his coat before the ceremony). This video basically saved my entire audio recording; i was able to get it to sound good despite the original file sounding like it was recorded through a chipmunks anus

Another good way to get volume from a mic is to simply pull it closer to you. This can help increase the volume, give it a different warmth and help it focus less on other noise around the environment. A good technique for moderate to good mics is to stick your thumb and pinky as far away from each other on one hand and touch the thumb to your lips and and your pinky to the mic. This can help give you a consistent distance from you to the mic, but not have you right on top of it (unless it's a dynamic mic where you want to be right on top of it).

Put the mic on a mic stand just out of frame, record peaks at +/- -9dB, use some ('sound' blankets) if your room has a lot of reflection. It will save so much work in post. A little Eq and compression should get you halve way there. If you listen to something that is louder; you perceive it as better... If you compare, get things equally loud! Happy mixing!

Hi Jason, thank you for showing the adjustments you do in your audio. sounds nice. I have a question for you. I have tried removing some radio background music in some videos. I was wondering if you tried removed background music using the original soundtrack when inverting the waveform phase.
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I haven't tried that method of removing the background noise. I find if the background noise is too loud it's really tough to remove and just keep the vocals. At least with the tools in DaVinci Resolve. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for checking out the video! I forget exactly what I did here, but I'm thinking the louder volume was because of setting audio levels properly. But I'd have to watch the video again to refresh my memory. 😜

Thank you so much for sharing, very useful! However, why the audio of this video is far better than the edited audio? I expected you can tune the edited audio to the same level. Any suggestion?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching! It all depends on how you edit the audio. I have a preset I use for all of my KZbin videos but in this video I just did all of the editing on the fly. It may not match exactly what I use on a regular basis. 😁👍

Very interesting like always ! thank you Jason :-) it was good to point the things we've already learnt in the previous tutorials :-) Two quicks questions if you've two minutes ;-) : --is it worth applying an other multiband compressor after having put the first one ? --in this video and others, you 're used to reduce frequencies but in case you want to increase low freq : an other dynamics ? loudness ? other tools ? bests regards from Colmar ...Ciaooo JF
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! You're welcome and thank you for watching! To answer your question, While not 100% necessary, I think the multiband compressor is worth it because it allows you to compress only certain frequency ranges. It helps sculpt the sound more. The regular compressor applies overall compression. As far as the boost on the low end, you are correct. Generally I cut on the EQ to remove all the 'bad' stuff. But there are cases like this one, that make the audio sound a little hollow or lacking in the low end (or it could be any range). So it is ok to boost sometimes, you just don't want to go overboard with it. I felt this mic could use a little more low end to it. When I mix vocals for live music, many times I'll give a boost on the EQ somewhere from 4k - 10k to help give more presence or sparkle to the voice. Really just depends on what you're try to accomplish, what you like, and what works best for your situation. Hope this helps a bit! 😁
