Fun Fact 1: This movie was called “Jaws: The Revenge” because originally it was going to follow the novel’s storyline where some islander holds a grudge against the Brody family and uses voodoo to control the shark to get revenge on them (which is somehow linked to Ellen’s psychic connection to the shark). They eventually realized how stupid that plot was, but had already filmed a lot, so they changed the story so that the shark was the offspring of the sharks from the first two movies taking revenge for its parents’ deaths. Fun Fact 2: This movie also ignores “Jaws 3D” (which I thought was worse than this movie), and instead is a direct sequel to “Jaws 2”. Fun Fact 3: This movie has two versions of the shark’s death. The original theatrical release had the broken pole of the boat impale the shark and kill it that way, and it doesn’t use the footage from the first movie. Critics didn’t like it, so for the home release they made the shark’s head randomly blow up when it was impaled, which was actually a far worse scene (you should have used the original one). Also, in the original ending, Jake didn’t survive. The shark’s original death scene can still be seen on TV and Netflix, but not DVD or VHS. Also, it wasn’t a bomb that was stuck in the shark’s mouth, but a device meant to produce electric shocks. There was literally no reason for its head to explode. Fun Fact 4: “Deep Blue Sea” was originally going to be “Jaws 5”, but changes were made and it became its own movie.

If I were to re-write the beginning of the movie, it would go like this: After Sean gets his arm eaten off, he quickly rushes to the cab and starts the boat up, the engine does NOT fail and he quickly rushes back to the decks still heavily bleeding from his bite, the shark rams into the back of the boat and Sean manages to jump on the deck nearly toppling in the water on the other side, the propeller from the boat causes the fish to bleed, not so much to kill it, leaving a deep scar on it's nose, Sean rushes to the station and the receptionist calls the Amity Hospital. Later the Brody's visits him, Michael recalling the first time he experienced a NEAR shark attack in the first movie that got him in shock and had him sent to the hospital too, this time it's his younger brother Sean but in a more serious degree. Hours later, the hospital called in Mike and said that he manages to live, Mikey and his daughter visits him and are very glad to see him okay, but Sean warns Mike about the shark and tells him to take the research team out into warmer waters, Michael agrees, but Ellen just flat out tells him to quite the job out of fear, but Mike listens to his brother's wish and calls in Jake to take the research crew out to warmer waters at the Bahamas. Sure the rest of the movie would be stupid with the shark hunting in warmer waters and would still roar before getting impaled, but hopefully this does some justice for people who are looking for ways for a different beginning to the film.

JAWS 5: Mike's daughter Thea would be in her 30's now and she's living on Oahu island in Hawaii with her husband and two children. They live on a small boat on the Anahula River, and the shark comes inland and starts hanging out in the river. The shark is infatuated by certain colours and is drawn to their boat by the odd colour of it - queue chase scenes where the boat roars along the river, the shark is in hot pursuit, it eats several fisherman and swimmers, and is finally killed when - during a chase - Thea suddenly changes direction, steering the boat hard to the left, and the shark piles headward into a boat full of explosives that is in the area to clear World War Two mines that are still in the nearby sea. The shark crashes in to the boat, and the boat and the shark explode. The film ends with Thea, her husband and their kids, standing on their boat, smiling and are pleased the shark is dead.

I’m a little shocked that Judith Barsi (Thea Brody) wasn’t mentioned at all in this video, only because her untimely demise did tie in with the production of this film. While filming in the Bahamas, her mother Maria complained to several crew members about her fear of being killed by her husband... to a point that her hysterics were seen as overly dramatic and not taken seriously; Judith, having been threatened by her father with a knife before filming, flew back to California early after suffering an emotional breakdown. Who knows what could’ve happened, but I always found it heartbreaking over the thought that if at least one person HAD taken Maria seriously during that production, it could’ve saved their lives.

I will say that it will never be as good as *Jaws* (1975) or *Jaws 2* (1978), but *Jaws: The Revenge* (1987) is still a very good film. And, to those who criticize the shark for roaring in this film, it roars/growls in *ALL* of the films. In the original film, it roars when Quint shoots a harpoon in its lower jaw just before the third barrel comes off the Orca and attaches itself to the shark. Listen closely when Quint says, "Out of my way" just when the shark resurfaces and he shoots it. In the second film, the shark roars when it rams a sailboat just when Michael is pulled up into the boat. It's that classic scene where you can see some exposed equipment in its mouth. In *Jaws III* (1983), it growls in several scenes. Just listen for it in several scenes that you see the mother shark. While it doesn't technically roar in this film, it still growls. I guess they brought back the roaring shark from the first two movies in Jaws: The Revenge. Yes, this one's roar is different than the roars of the first two films, but it's still a roar.
