I agree, I would stay up late on Monday night for Jay Leno's Headlines...fifteen years ago me, my parents, and my aunt were in the studio audience of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and I thought it was gonna be a boring night. Boy was I SOOOO wrong...those Headlines were just hilarious, especially the one with the cat muzzle (it looked like something they had to put on a cat we used to have when she had to get shots). I know it doesn't look humane, but it was too damn funny. I guess my memorable trip to Hollywood to visit my aunt (my father's stepsister) triggered me to watch Jay Leno's headlines until the bitter end when Jimmy Fallon took over for the Tonight Show.

I really can't believe some of those wedding names. Some of those last names are unbelievable to begin with but then they somehow found each other and happened to have found each other and have a weird combo of last names.
@teresaaitha6256 Жыл бұрын
Weird names are not that unusual. Where I live I’ve found a few people whose last name is the German word for fox. I’m afraid to say their name because, you know. Names like Hickey, Butts, and Colon are somewhat common too. Then I’ve learned some middle eastern women have the name Negar, which I think is pretty in their languages but English speakers would hesitate to say aloud. My name would end up on Headlines if I ever did anything worth publishing in a newspaper.

David Letterman,Conan O'Brien, Craig Ferguson,and even Jimmy Kimmel (!) could go around in circles to whatever Fallon had. It's just not the same. I had quit watching Fallon when I had watched his first night being the new host of the Tonight Show on NBC. I just didn't like it. I think Jay milked the bit too much. If the bit is funny, allow it to be funny. The buildup, the "after explain"... It's NOT supposed to be about Jay being funny. He's not doing stand up. It's supposed to be about funny HEADLINES. If they're funny, they should be funny with NOBODY reading them. A great demonstration is when he says "I'm not even gonna read this one". That's always the funniest one in the bunch. But then again, some people want more explanation of the joke to get the humor. Takes all kinds.

In the previous comments people talked about the "newer, younger audience" that Fallon appeals to...I'm not so sure, because it seems that Fallon's Tonight show is like Seth Myers' show that follows it - it serves largely as a means of promoting other Lorne Michaels produced programming, and also to promote the various projects that past and present SNL cast members are involved in. Take a look at an average month's worth of guests on both Fallon's and Myers' shows; sometimes as much as 1/3 of their shows' guests are either past or present SNL cast members. That's the biggest difference between late night TV in 2007 and today - Lorne Michaels and Broadway Video's direct involvement in it.

I for the life of me can not and will never understand how there was and is a large segment of media and population who thought and think that Jay Leno was responsible for that over-actor Conan's exit from The Tonight Show. Firstly Jay should never have been told to leave the show by NBC, for well over a decade he was number 1 at that slot, he raked in hundreds of millions for NBC, was loved by the audience and was a synonym with the Tonight Show, he was not even 60 when NBC literally forced him out and bought Conan in. Jay Leno has a special appeal with audiences over 35 because he was always decent, never over-acted and did not go any where near vulgarity for laughs. His body language, his style of delivery always was calm yet sarcastic and super funny. Conan on the other hand with his side kick Andy was and is completely opposite to Jay and audiences especially mature and non teen were completely put off by him. The way he exaggerated his facial expressions and had segments which were no way near funny as Headlines, Jay Walking, Things we found on ebay, 99 Cent Store etc, they were far more superior and liked. Jay's interviews were more engaging and classy as well. Jay was just doing what his employer was telling him to do, he had no personal animosity towards Conan, if he had, he would have went to NBC's rival stating they kicked me out of hosting The Tonight Show after years of being on top. Jay Leno is unmatched in his comedy. You do not necessarily have to be loud and obnoxious to be funny like Conan so desperately tries to do. We miss you Jay.
@bethdibartolomeo20423 жыл бұрын
I loved Conan on his show in the 90s, he was hilairous. If They Made It, In the Year 2000, and the desk drives were topnotch comedy. Leno was fantastic with Headlines and Jaywalking (I never really liked the ones with the exaggerated head or chin characters, I forget what those segments were called.) Carson had Carnac and animal segments. Letterman had his Top 10s. All the men had their own special comedic chops. Some won't be everyone's cup of tea, and that's okay.
