I do like alternating grips for different focuses on the lats, but as far as getting the cobra back, pull-ups, t-bar rows, and some seated rows, single arm rows(super set), dumbbell pull overs.
@zalapski93995 ай бұрын
Man I’ve completely abandoned lat pull downs once and for all. I’ve given them so many chances- all grips, angles, going controlled with light weight, heavy and swinging. They’re just garbage.

Dumbbell pullovers is the worlds most UNDERRATED exercise. I do on push days, but it definitely develops the lats as well, and also really hits your triceps- you are gonna grow your triceps much more with heavy DB pullovers than 20 minutes of tricep cable push downs.
@calithebully99255 ай бұрын
how do you work it in your split then if you do push day then back the next? if your getting a really good stimulus on push day for lats do you just not train lats the next day?
@zalapski93995 ай бұрын
@@calithebully9925well the way I look at it- everyday is ‘back day’ in 1 way or another: I do push, pull, legs Chest- back gets worked a ton picking up heavy dumbbells for dumbbell pressing, and lats if I do dumbbell pullovers Legs- squatting and barbell lunges, tons of back Pull day- obviously back. And if you’re doing mostly free weight compound lifts, you’re using so many muscle groups there’s gonna be overlap. I just try my best to go off feel, so maybe if my lower back is fried with pull day coming up, focus more on pull ups, chest supported rows, etc.
@hughhagen49685 ай бұрын
Dumbbell pullovers are not a lat exercise at all. Your lats have very little leverage to extend the shoulder with the elbows overhead, which is where the tension is, so the fibers are not active. Your nervous system will recruit fibers from the chest to perform the movement because they have far more leverage where the load is applied
@Tom-ge4yh5 ай бұрын
Your tricep shouldn't be moving at all
@zalapski93995 ай бұрын
@@Tom-ge4yh your triceps are: getting a huge stretch, and supporting a 100 lbs dumbbell. So yeah they get worked very hard in this exercise.

lat pulldown builds massive backs . A lot of bodybuilders do this exercise. Relax
@zalapski93995 ай бұрын
I think lat pull downs are absolute garbage (along with seated cable rows). But that’s just my experience and opinion
@davidmccormick19964 ай бұрын
Pullovers, in particular, help build that wide look by developing the anterior serratus, which actually rests underneath the lats. In that position, the serratus has to work hard to hold onto the scapula as the lats flex and extend. It's definitely a fantastic lift.

I wish I could feel what it’s like to be as big as he was in his prime, just for a day.. I once saw a guy that was like 6’5” maybe, so quite tall.. any way, he was definitely a body builder and he was massive. But he still wasn’t anywhere near the size of Jay.. it blew my mind how muscular this guy was. Seeing it in person is so much crazier than in videos. Most of us have never seen anyone as muscular as Jay in real life, these guys are 1 in a million.

@@blacjackdaniels200my lats burn wayyyyy more after a set of cable lat pulldown then after pull ups. And I have this Quasimodo ish back on the top Wich is probably is part of the reason. So it really is different for different bodies.
@joh_kun55304 ай бұрын
I think Dorian is just so big and so strong that warming up to those pullups and performing them to absolute failure to grow his back would just be a chore and could mangle his tendons. Which is why him and so many other heavyweight athletes skip on them.

Ill tell you what the cable lat pull downs with the long stretch is an exercise that i did to finish my pull day and id get intensity with them but they were pretty easy to get intense with (which made them great to finish with) and i really started getting noticed for the width of my back. I also was doing quite a bit of weight for my compound movements doing back as well. Hard to say how much of it was just those though because i really was fine tuning every lift i was doing as best i could (obviously you get tired). Dropped weight, dramaticized form and focused on a lot of angles, points of emphasis to push or pull from
