Thomas is 92 years old. He rarely gives interviews. That's why he mostly interviews with the Hoover Institute. If you're really interested in him, he has a ton of videos on his channel and elsewhere. He's a student of Milton Friedman, Free to Choose, an economist that's fantastic to watch, he's now deceased. In fact, his Free to Choose channel runs his multi-part documentary from the 80s, I think it's 13 parts, and a very young Thomas Sowell showcases in several episodes. Milton is long gone, but that show, filmed in the 80s is not only amazing, but sad, because everything that Friedman discusses then STILL happens today. Mean ZERO progress has been made all these years. I'd tell you to watch the 13 episode serious off-channel because it's really amazing to hear.

I love even just that him making this video, sharing these ideas, gave so many people a place to just share and connect that feel the same. I suspect there are a lot more of us of all identities (races, genders, sexual orientations, etc) that feel this way than not, but social media algorithms and traditional media negativity biases make it seem like that is not at all the case. We just need compassion and understanding, respectfully disagreeing where needed, and not trying to push hate or unrealistic expectations on others. We can put aside our differences (except perhaps psychopaths) and live in harmony. And videos like this should help bring that about. 🙏🏼😊

I grew up poor in the woods. Northern rural area. Closest neighbor was 1/2 mile away. I was instilled with a sense of personal responsibility because there is NOBODY to help you. You are responsible for yourself and everyone under your care. Thomas Sowell has always resonated with me because he started out Democrat/socialist began to understand how destructive it is and shiftedaway from that state dependency model to recognize individual responsibility as the ideal. I have listened to a lot of YT videos on Thomas Sowell's work. I was cautious at the start, but now I have even bought some of his books. I don't always immediately like what he says, but he seems able to walk around a researched subject and look at it from different directions. My heart goes out to you Jamel - growing up with violence is traumatic. Childhood PTSD is no joke. I got an ACES score of 6 - maybe yours is similar. I'm 68 and my father who abused me and made me the family scapegoat is dead now several years. But my body needed to get rid of the pain so I went through counseling and EMDR to bring up the incidents and put them to rest with his assistance. This helps me to stay emotionally stable and I'm so thankful for it. Our minds are molded at an early age and yes - life's tough. But we all can survive and prevail. I hope the same for you!

Man's a genius. His book Intellectuals and Society flipped my early adult brain and stayed with me forever. I never looked at anything the same again. It's up there with Atlas Shrugged, and the Creature from Jekyl Island on how impactful it was to my thinking. I find your thoughtfulness to be refreshing in this day and age. I grew up during the 60's and my parents actually bought a school bus and hired a driver to send their kids (8 of them) along with white kids from some other families to an all black Catholic school in the "inner city". There were about 300 kids in that school and about 15 were white. It gave me a different perspective on things. The kids at the school were just the same as the kids at my previous, all white, school; some were cool, some were bullies, some were smart, and some were not smart. I learned that there really isn't any difference between whites and blacks. Jerks are jerks regardless of race. I would say that Thomas Sowell is one of the best economists out there. He is known for his well researched and evidence-based conclusions. He was a Marxist when he started university, but shed that label after studying under Milton Friedman. The one thing he does that is very rare, is that he will change his mind on things if the evidence does not bear out his beliefs. I would strongly suggest studying Sowell by reading his books or watching some of the numerous video's on KZbin. The best thing to learn from Sowell - even if you don't agree with his conclusions - is that you should draw conclusions from the evidence, not find evidence to support your conclusions. This holds for any topic and prepares one to be confident in their beliefs. I'm glad I found your channel. Keep up the good work.

I lived in the British West Indies during the late 70's and have to agree with this assessment. The people were predominantly poor farmers on small plots of land and were very self sufficient. Honesty and hard work were honored. Students returning home from several years in the US brought new ideas about repression and it was not long before night raids on vegetable gardens started up. A rift formed in the communities and the slippery slope came into play.

@@andyman58 Sowell’s arguments always dovetail quite neatly into excusing any wrongdoing by Republican whites, or even slave owners. He’s paid by the Hoover Institute to promote the idea that African-Americans are solely to blame for their situation, and nothing, not Jim Crow laws, not Segregation, not redlining, none of the overtly (and in some cases, admittedly) racist policies have any bearing whatsoever on the situation. Research “The Southern Strategy”, which was literally an openly stated policy by the Republican Party to flip the South from being Democrat to Republican, by playing to racist white Southerners, and convincing them that black people were a bigger threat than poverty. It worked incredibly well, obviously. But it was so egregious, The Republican Party actually formally apologized for this to the NAACP. But if you listen to Thomas Sowell, none of it happened, and even if it did, it made no difference, because American black people deserved it.

Thomas Sowell (pronounced like "soul") is a brilliant scholar & economist who blended economic analysis with his study of just about any topic in history that generated unique insights few others are capable of producing. When it comes to topics of race and economics, there is no one better qualified to produce the most reliable sources of information and analysis than this brilliant mind. His prolific output has been largely shunned by the African-American community because he debunked socialist & liberal ideology in favor of uncomfortable truths. He had no patience for arrogant but inferior minds, or those afflicted with pet ideologies that fit their own bigoted views or special brand of ignorance. I first encountered his unique writings back in the 80's, but his book "Conflict of Visions" and "Vision of the Anointed" helps in understanding how he views the left vs. right phenomena. He doesn't appreciate political labels, as they don't capture the realities he is famous for revealing. Agree totally and it's so important we've now got so many decentralized (and UNCENSORED) means of social media and communication so more and more people can be exposed to his work and ideas and incredible wisdom. He addresses racial issues that the media, politicians, and their overlords have now spent centuries using to stoke and encourage and build emotional reactions to on both "sides". Even the terms "black" and "white" are built in to imply inherent total opposition. But he somehow cuts straight through ALL of that programming and reaches listeners with the way he communicates so they can hear him present facts and ideas that resonate with the vast majority of people regardless of their skin color or politics or lack thereof (which I think means he is speaking truth, or as close as we can ever possibly get to it). Videos like this are the reason I watch you as we are both in search of the Truth and similar views in that I grew up really Poor in the edge of the Hood and then my first house was in the hood and live still just a few minutes away as I have to drive thru it, work in it and close to it. It is ALL about educating oneself and giving yourself the Most Options and choices and by working hard consistently you can gain some advance and better yourself. I see too many "victims" and those dependent on government and follow mainstream media as they never go below the surface and ask questions. I learned some things today and some went really deep without choosing a side and instead used examples and cited proof to illustrate what is going on. And it was on such a level that everyone could understand.
