Part - 1 • Who were the Last Maur...
The history of the Mauryan Empire after the death of Ashoka is shrouded in mystery. This was the period of the Decline of the Mauryan Empire. In this video, I try to construct the history of the Mauryan Empire based on the limited sources we have. This is the second part of the video, where we talk about the Mauryan Kings who came after Dashratha.
My main source for this video was Romila Thapar's "Aśoka and the decline of the Mauryas". The theory of the division of the Mauryan Empire is provided in this book. Apart from this, I have also used K. A Nilakanta Sastri's Age of the Nandas and Mauryas.

Hey. Thanks for the awesome content. Could you please make a video about the various sources you commonly cite: eg. Vedic / Puranic / Hellenic sources, epics like Mahabharata / Ramayana, etc. Why are these sources regarded as reliable, and to what extent, which time period were they from, what was the context of the authors at the time of their penmanship, were they originally oral sources (and hence forcing us to assume some amount of unreliability), have they mutated over time in the course of transcribing / translating them, their patrons and hence their social /political leanings, etc? Just want to understand what to keep in mind when digging into these sources.

Lmao 🤣 When Muslims came Bangladesh and Pakistan was ruled by Hindus. •Islamization of Bangladesh- Buddhist Pala empire ruled Bengal from 750 CE to 1165 CE. It was the most powerful empire of Bengal ever existed. They expand their power from Bengal to Kashmir. But Hindu Sena dynasty came to power in Bengal in 1165 CE. They easily lost to Islamic invader Bhakthiyar Khalji about 1204 CE. That caused destruction of Buddhist Nalanda university and Buddhism from Bengal. Then, Bhakthiyar Khalji also wanted to invade Buddhist countries. First He went to invade Tibet with 10,000 soldiers (Bhakthiyar Khalji's campaign of Tibet 1204 CE). He got defeated by Tibetan Buddhists and only 100 soldiers came back with Bhakthiyar Khalji. Tibetan Buddhists even without a king defeated Bhakthiyar Khalji. Bhakthiyar Khalji died before came back to Bengal due to his wounds or Hindus of Kamarupa kingdom killed him or a someone from his own army killed him. •Islamization of Pakistan- Buddhist Rai dynasty ended Zoroastrianist Sassanian rule in Sindh in 489 CE. Buddhist Rai dynasty ruled Sindh until 632 CE. Hindu Brahmin dynasty of Sindh overthroned Buddhist Rai dynasty in 632 CE. So, Sindhi Buddhists supported to Muhammad Bin Qasim to invade Sindh in 712 CE. They just supported a invader against a another invader. But It was a very bad decision because It caused destruction of both Buddhism and Hinduism from Sindh. Since Hindu Brahmin dynasty of Sindh also ruled Pakistan Punjab, Invasion of Muhammad Bin Qasim also lead to Islamization of Pakistan Punjab. Muslims conquested Balochistan from Zoroastrianist Sassanian empire. Gilgit-Baltistan remained as Buddhist until 14th century CE. Gilgit-Baltistan was ruled by Buddhist Patola Shahis dynasty and Buddhist Trakhan dynasty. Gilgit-Baltistan converted to the Islam because Trakhan dynasty converted to the Islam. It wasn't a invasion. Ladakh was ruled by Buddhist Namgyal dynasty of Ladakh from 1460 CE to 1862 CE. It was never invaded by Muslims. Still Ladakh is Buddhist except Balti Muslims in Kargil district. •Islamization of Afghanistan- Muslim Rashidun caliphate conquested West Afghanistan (Khorasan and Sistan) by defeating Zoroastrianist Sassanian empire (Battle of Navanand 642 CE). In 665 CE, Muslim Ummayud caliphate conquested East Afghanistan by defeating Nezak Huns. But Muslim rule in East Afghanistan was limited one month because Buddhist king Barga Tegin of Turk Shahis dynasty defeated general Abd Al-Rahman Ibn Samura of Ummayud caliphate and established Buddhist Turk Shahis dynasty. They ruled East Afghanistan until 822 CE. Hindu Shahis dynasty came to power in East Afghanistan in 822 CE. Hindu Shahis dynasty was defeated by Persian Muslim Saffrarid dynasty in 870 AD from East Afghanistan. Hindu Shahis dynasty ruled KPK until 1070 AD. But Muslim Ghaznavids defeated Hindu Shahis dynasty also from KPK. Badakshan (North Afghanistan and East Tajikistan) was ruled by Buddhist Tokhara Yaghubs. They also conquested Balkh and Khorasan by defeating Ummayud caliphate with help of Arab Muslim rebel Musa ibn Abd Allah ibn Khazim in 680 CE. But Muslim Ummayud caliphate reconquested Balkh in 704 CE. But Buddhist Tokhara Yaghubs ruled Badakshan until 758 CE. So, North Afghanistan and East Tajikistan (Tokharistan and Badakshan) are considered as only areas where Muslims conquested by defeating a Buddhist dynasty. •Islamization of Xinjiang- Muslims conquested South Xinjiang and converted Uyghurs to the Islam. But There was Oirat-Mongol Dzungars in Northern Xinjiang. Dzungars converted to the Buddhism and established Dzungar Khanate. Buddhist Dzungar Khanate conquested whole Muslim Uyghur Yarkent Khanate and parts of Muslim Kazakh Khanate in Dzungar-Kazakh wars. But Manchu Qing dynasty conquested Xinjiang. They m@$$cr3d Dzungar Buddhists who rebelled for independence. Sadly, Buddhist ethnic groups like Khalkha-Mongols supported Qing dynasty for it. Also Uyghur Muslims supported it and they declared it as a victory of Islam. They became majority in whole Xinjiang. Your Hindu India was ruled by Muslims for more than 600 years. There was only 11 wars between Buddhists and Muslims. Buddhists won from 7. •Dzungar-Kazakh war- Buddhist Dzungar Khanate conquested Muslim Uyghur Yarkent Khanate and parts of Muslim Kazakh Khanate. •Buddhist Rattanakosin empire vs Islamic Sultanate of Patani- Buddhist Rattanakosin empire won and they conquested Sultanate of Patani. •Kalmyk-Nogai war- Buddhist Kalmyk Khanate won they expelled Muslim Nogai Horde. •Bhathiyar Khalji's campaign of Tibet- Tibetan Buddhists won Many more....... Buddhist countries where Hindu kings ruled like East Afghanistan, Bangladesh, some provinces of Pakistan and Malaysia easily converted to the Islam. But Buddhist countries where Buddhist kings ruled like Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Taiwan still remain as Buddhist.

Dipavamsa does not cover Post-Ashokan Mauryan history. The Puranas give the most detailed account of later Mauryans.
