Why skip Ramayana and the 16 perfections that Rama possessed? Idea of righteous and dharmic rule is so important there. . Ref to Mahabharata Bhishma's answer is interesting.

The Mahabharata verson seems to be a more evolved later version compared to the Buddhist thought. The Buddhist version does not give explanation to the origin of legitimacy while in Mahabharata Yudhisthir clearly asks what gives rise to legitimacy in his question. Yudhisthir's questions are always intelligent like that.

If one goes deep into Advaitabaad it will prove that Hinduism and Buddhism are not very different. Actually the God is in every human being. So when people choose the King it is actually a divine intervention. The God only decides the King through His representations among human beings. That's why Advaitabaad is known as Vedanta. It is the ultimate shape of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. Basically we all have to truly realise we are representatives of the God, though Godliness finds expressions at various levels among human beings depending on his/her characteristics.

@@JayVardhanSingh Thank you so much for clearing my doubt! I was expecting a more direct and political answer, but it turned out to be quite spiritual 😄. Hello, Jay. I wanted to ask something. In the age of Mahabharata, was everything viewed and shaped from the prism of duty and responsibility that an individual has to the family and society? Also, was the social fabric of the society (at least the Aryavarta/Brahmavarta region) made of following your father's footsteps when it came to occupation and varna? Was it any different for the females in this society? Great video and I do hope you make more such videos. Shanti Parva really enamored, not because I studied it or read it and formed my own opinions, but because of the fact that from what little I watched on KZbin and tried to understand was that even if it represented an ossified view of society, at least it was honest. Thanks for reading. Hope you are doing great. Edit: Shanti Parva really enamored me instead of Shanti Parva really enamored.

I love your content, but I have one suggestion. You frequently repeat the same point over and over again in different ways. Here the point about elected vs. appointed is made 2X. Once to describe the evidence, then to summarize the evidence. Sometimes it comes again the third time. The Viraja definition comes 2X. If that happens once or twice, its ok, but it happens multiple times in each of your videos. Maybe the script writing could be tighter. Just a constructive critique that could make your future videos better. Thanks for making this interesting content!

have been watching your videos regularly and respect your scholarship but you seem to have ignored a few facts here regarding the Buddha period republics; these republics were quite different from modern republics in the sense they did not represent all the people but only the clan members of the dominant ruling class. you can see that in the Shakya republic in Kapilvastu who maintained the so called Das-Dasis and refused to give their daughter to Prasenjit and cheated with him by marrying a Dasi to him. Then gain in Vasihali only Lichhavis could be part of the Santhagar to the extent that even Bandhul Malla could not be tolerated to have his wife bathe in the Mangal Pushkararni. secondly, if these republics had nothing to do with monarchical system then how did Buddha was deemed to be the king of the Shakya which he refused although?
@JayVardhanSingh

I am perfectly aware of the fact that these gana or samghas of Ancient India were not like the modern Republics. That is why I used the term non-monarchial not Republics to avoid confusion. @@JayVardhanSingh in your view you may have presented the facts in the best possible manner, yet somehow they shadow the facts as we know that existed at that time; when you say in non-monarchial states the 'people' played most important role- you are hiding all the facts that i mentioned in my previous comment. my point is whether monarchy or the so called Gana-Rajya, only the elite clan was ruling. In one the succession was decided by war among princes and in the other it was decided by consensus among the clan members. You can see this little difference reflecting in the management of rulership in the Vrishni clan of Krishna and Kuru clan of Arjuna. The so called 'people' were not really involved. People carries altogether a different meaning in modern context.

Search about Schwa deletion in Hindi and how Sanksrit words are actually pronounced. It's not in foreign style. A sanskrit scholar will pronounce देव as द्+अ +व्+अ, say day and then say v with a short a sound. While a person who speaks hindi will say द्+अ +व् what you believe is "correct". And foreginer(westernized) will say द्+अ +व्+आ.

@@parthkhanolkar7916 its definitely not 'uh' but 'a'. Its like if you read देव as two letters दे व instead of how it is read modern Indian languages: देव् (dropping the end schwa). Almost all modern indo-aryan languages consistently drop the end schwa and most drop the middle expect Marathi which is retains middle schwa in quite a few words Either way there is no "correct" pronunciation. The KINGS *corrupted* hindu religious texts to revolve around their narcissistic self image and delusions of greatness and used them to get respect and obedience from the peasants who they oppressed. They used the religious castes by giving them a high position in society, but also made them write, preach, and support mythological stories which secretly hype up kings, by saying 'god chooses the king', 'the king is just one of you' 'the king is chosen by everyone' etc. in many different versions. But look today, even if the average Indian peasant isn't free from ruling fantasy oppresions, they have still managed to dismantle the monarch system, but now they are stuck getting oppressed by capital owners and their bottom feeder politicians. Even this shall pass in time😅
