I just need to say that you have a strong talent for teaching. You explain to me how things are done and the methods why... the pro's and cons. I can watch other videos and I fall asleep, yet you keep me awake with that expressive and vibrant energy. I have learned so much from your lessons. You answer questions that the pros don't even consider we might need to know. I just want to thank you for your hard work and helping me to learn Flash and animation, how to add sound and other tricks. I am sure that you don't even know half the artist you inspire with your drawing and your lectures, all for the good. Thank you!

Toonboom was ungodly to learn after using flash for years, but honestly now that i 'get it" it's far easier and faster to work in than flash. However, the first time i tried TB i also ended up rage quiting after a few days and didn't try it again for another year. For TB, you have to think completely differently since each layer is a kind of symbol and make use of overlayer/line/colour/under to do things. In the end for pure animation TB is far superior, but TB can't let you make a few things like interactivity and easily self looping animations that run independently piece by piece.

I totally agree with your review of AnimateCC. I've been hanging on in there for a long time too and was really saddened when so many people kept saying that Flash is Dead! I felt like I was a lone voice saying that it wasn't dead, and I was living in hope that Adobe would finally shake themselves out of their reverie and do the right thing with the software! Thankfully it looks like they are going in the right direction and I can understand why they changed the name because of all the bad press it needed a rebrand. Thanks for the great overview and review :)

Jazza, I'm so happy to hear that you've got a direct connection with the folks at Adobe! Like you, I've been using AnimateCC/Flash/FutureSplashAnimator for years...almost exclusively for video animation! It's my sincerest desire that Adobe will finally make AnimateCC a true competitor for ToonBoom and AnimeStudio as an video animation program. Although I continue to upgrade my copies of those apps in the hopes that I will someday actually figure out how to use them, like you I find them ridiculously frustrating to use (loved your ToonBoom recap in the video!). Flash just needs a few tweaks and features to make it the definitive animation app. Thanks for dishing out a heaping helping of hope!

I believe I originally found your channel because I had just picked up flash to try it and needed tutorials to help me understand the fire I was playing with. While I didn't really stick with it and instead fell in love with your photoshop/art tutorials, the changes made to create Animate CC have also reinvigorated me to try 2D animation again. Looking forward to any future Animate CC tutorials from you, Jazza! Thanks as always :)

Thanks for this video, Jazza! I recently was able to finally purchase the Adobe Suite and was having a bit of a hard time switching from Macromedia Flash 8 (I know it's old, but it's stable and I didn't have the money to upgrade) to the newest Flash. Though I wasn't having nearly as frustrating a time as you did with Toon Boom I was wondering why I should switch from MF8 at all. There didn't seem to be a whole lot worthwhile and indeed I was more familiar with the old file. But this new Animate CC, and especially this video, has swayed me. The audio splitting is a game changer, the swatch tool is amazing, the sizable brush size is something I've desperately wanted, and the custom brushes are something I'm really looking forward to trying out! I'm still having some issues transitioning but it's getting easier the more I use it. I know you have lots of tutorials for Flash in general, but I'd appreciate a refresher course on some of the basic tools, but for Animate instead so people like me who are jumping on now have a good starting point. Thanks for all the great content! PS: I'm a little jealous we are close to the same age and you are so much better than me, but that just spurs me on to keep practicing!

Fantastic Video. Ive also used flash for half my life. Starting on Flash 5. Moving to MX, 2013 and 2016. You're spot on there has been no need until now to start looking at moving forward. As Adobe Animate is now becoming what the program should have been a long time ago. Hopefully Adobe move this even more forward with similar features that are incorporated into TB Harmony, Illustrator and I think personally it should even go down the Spine Route for 2D Game Creation for Unity and Unreal Integration.

So I was looking at that spiffy magic wand sparkle and thought some effects animation tutorials might be nice (if they don't already exist), and also you mentioned that you do a short scene, then join them all together in premier...maybe a little tutorial on that could be good (I opened premier the other day and got over whelmed and closed it again)!

You make a good point about the historical reputation of Flash. Rebranding it is one thing but the stigma may persist, just because it's Adobe. I follow a lot of animation blogs and TV Paint comes up a lot. I think if you're looking for something that is the most intuitive , from a traditional hand-drawn perspective, a lot of software has something to offer and some flaws that make you beat your head against a wall. One thing about your example is that I would have wanted to see nice clean tapered lines on your character. Can Animate CC draw tapers based on pressure sensitivity or are the line always coming off a pre-determined library? I would say, if you can't make real-time lines based on pressure, that's a flaw.

Hi Jazza. I've been animating now with toon boom for half a year. I use essentials, so if I'd like to upgrade, I'll need too spend at the least 600 USD on it. Which I may do if I stay with the program. Sure you get some cool features, but maybe it's not worth it. Now when I've seen this I get one more bit confused. Should I migrate to Animate CC, before it was the flash peeps who came to toon boom. Will I get a nice surprise, or would the transition be terrible you think? Do I get much out of it in the long run. I watch onion skin to get good toon boom resources, but it feels like I can easier get Animate resources. What do you think, shall I leave toon boom? Cuz I already have creative cloud, so it will not cost a penny more. Love ya mate!

For me, the most useful feature in all of Animate CC is simply the fact that you can now import SVG images. The reason this is important is because it allows you to import animation done in CACANi, since the only vector export option in CACANi is SVG images.

I would like to see you try the bleeding edge version of Pencil 2D. It's great for my animation style, but I want to see what a professional thinks of the freeware program. You can see the 26 or so frames of ball I regurgitated onto my channel if you want to see what can be done with such a simple tool. One more thing, save often (or turn on auto save) because the program can be a tad UI breakingly unstable at times. However, the odds of you getting a broken startup is somewhere in the ballpark of 1 in 20. Also it likes to occasionally uninstall my intuos drivers for some reason. Well, that's a nightly build for you. Oh, almost forgot. Vector layers are completely broken on the Windows version, and have been for some time now.

+Draw with Jazza Enjoying your work Jazza. Question, do you draw all frames of the animation by hand? Obvious answer perhaps.

But can the Adobe Flash still be purchased even the Adobe Animete is out? plus, i know you feelings with Toon boom. i have been using flash since it still was owned by Macromedia and i can say that Toom boom wasn't a pleasant program.

I once had a chat with a guy from Nvidia, and he said when Nvidia was pitching a technology partnership with Adobe for GPU accelerated Flash, Adobe was very reserved and bureaucratic about the idea at first saying that flash users should just get a better CPU rather than have the graphics card help with calculating flash video. Eventually Nvidia was able to convince them in the end but only after a 2 year period, Nvidia and Adobe have been good business partners ever since.
