Hey there. I work at VW. If your car gets scanned with a tune, we can’t see that you have a tune or not, but we can tell it’s been flashed. Granted some recalls flash the ecm too, but if it’s supposed to have 3 flashes and yours comes in with 4, it is going to be considered TD1. Once it receives that fancy title, it is now voided everywhere. If you flash it back to stock, it now shows 5 total so that’s not going to work. I’m unsure if this would void all warranty or just the power train , either way I would be prepared for the worst.
@MeltingRubberZ283 жыл бұрын
People with big turbos get their water pumps replaced under warranty. It's not entirely powertrain related, and anything beyond that isn't out of warranty.

Here to say last week my 2019 Golf R threw EPC codes due to wastegate actuator. Removed jb4 (using map 2 usually) brought to dealership and had my turbo replaced under warranty. Hot take. I even left my obd2 cable tucked behind my battery and in the car tucked under my dashboard unplugged. (didnt want to fish through firewall again!) ZERO WARRANTY PROBLEMS.

I have had a JB4 in my MK7 Golf R for a year and half almost, I've got to give my two cents on it lol. I have been running map 6.... Probably not a safe amount of boost, does it make my car faster? *YES.* Does it make my car the fastest it CAN be? *NO!* If you want your car to gain some quick power on a tight budget and don't have to much other mods (Bolt ons) done then JB4 is the way to go. But when you start to want more from your car and you have more bolt ons and want to get to "Actual" staged tune than you are going to want to get a flash, not a piggy back. Does the warranty thing matter? Do you even have warranty? Honestly I don't even know if I do, I think I have like 30000 miles left and I only have drive train, I do all of my work/ maintenance in my garage by myself, so I don't care to much, but if you don't like getting your hands dirty when you need to and you find yourself going to the dealer for stuff to get done, then probably stick to the JB4 where it is hard to detect. Either way, get the water pump done before you do any tune, you will thank me later. I am going to get an actual tune, probably Unitronic, I like JB4, but a remap or flash is just better in the long run even if it is more money. Plus you can get pop/crackles, TCU and ECU tunes etc...
@jonslade22094 жыл бұрын
So why exactly do VWs have a flash counter? Is it just to make sure cars aren’t being flashed with performance tunes and getting certain work done under warranty?

Hey Lucas, I was thinking of a jb4 tune. Did it make a decent amount of noticable gain? And would it hurt to have a dsg tune with jb4?
@LucasHuang4 жыл бұрын
i mean idk why you'd want to. the biggest reason people do jb4 is cause they want more power but keep their warranty. a dsg tune gets flashed in your ECU so that might be grounds to void your warranty. at the same time if you get a DSG tune with a jb4 tune then you might as well get a stage 1 with dsg tune; it'll cost the same
@koston7774 жыл бұрын

JB4 does not require a DSG tune. Have two Mk7.5 GTIs with DSGs running JB4 on Map3 (latest firmware maps) without a single problem. As mentioned earlier, tunning will lead to warranty issues if that is a concern. Manual on the other hand may have a problem.
@stephenpettitt57652 жыл бұрын
Remove the JB4 before you return the car to the dealer for servicing and warranty. The JB4 leaves no fingerprints. It appears to the dealership computer as a standard non tuned vehicle.

I'm in the same boat with my 2015. I kinda feel like I'd just wait until I can afford an IS38, then tune. That way, the turbo isn't something to worry about and you'd get WAY more out of the tune.

He’s actually wrong on the warranty issue, the jb4 is untraceable since you can always remove it from the vehicle and a flash is Traceableb, plus a remap tune is way more expensive for basically the same power, some tuners can destroy your car since some don’t know what their doing. I personally have the TDI tuning box and I’m extremely impressed with it ! Very good results

Here is a story about flashed ECUs, I am a Sales Manager for Honda(I know is a different brand) another Manager bought a Type R when it came out(recently traded for a Track Hawk) and his wing started flapping one day, he had his Ecu jail broken with a Hondata tune(he felt that my car was faster so he had to tune it) while in the dealership American Honda wanted to get into the Ecu and the Master Technician found it add, he said they normally don’t do it unless is a powertrain claim, he asked why, and they said they weren’t going to cover the claim without reading the Ecu, the master tech let my coworker know, he didn’t care, and they jumped into the Ecu, I am sure they found out what it had and flagged the Vin for a future claim powertrain related claims, just letting people know, this things do happen specially on enthusiasts cars.

Man i want to get a JB4 so bad because i like the numbers i see of HP increase but at the same time ive heard people getting their warranty canceled. i dont think im a super agressive driver so i dont think i would cause a transmission, engine, etc. Problem but ANYTHING can happen. So ive been looking at a Neuspeed power module which seems safer since it only uses 2 sensors. Its a safer option but a little less power.
@MeltingRubberZ283 жыл бұрын
Definitely the opposite. Less sensors means the module has little idea what the engine is actually doing. JB4 is untraceable once removed, and actually keeps an eye on fueling, knock, etc.

You should compare tunes.
@LucasHuang4 жыл бұрын
i've def thought about it but in terms of practicality it doesn't really work. - one way to compare tunes would be to compare it on paper and get super technical about it which i've never really cared for. i'm not one to argue about what % to put the air fuel ratio at 3000rpm to make the tune better. - the other would be to do roll racing with it but that's hard to do in terms of camera production too cause it'll mostly happen at night which the quality wouldn't even be good. then it's hard to find someone with the same mods as me and it'll end up mostly being a dsg vs manual type video
