The hardest thing I ever had to do was tell my mom she shouldn’t drive anymore. It’s a huge feeling of independence for the elderly but sometimes it is necessary. It truly broke her heart because she felt like she was going to become a burden on everyone. It’s been three years and she’s ok with it now. Fortunately we are able to have an adult companion come out three days a week and take her to the store, doctor, bank, etc. Someday my kids will have to make that decision for me.

In 3 years you can get very affordable health care called Medicare and a suppliment. I moved to Mexico when I was 55, so it was a more important question for ten years before we had Medicare. Were in not for Medicare, we would not be as comfortable traveling in the States. In Mexico government healthcare .... you can google it .... IMSS or Seguro Popular ... are affordable, but its healthcare for the masses. Private health care at all levels from an office visit to major surgery is about 1/5th the cost of the same care in the US. That makes private healthcare in Mexico more affordable also. I have some other videos on healthcare and dentistry in Mexico.

I look forward to watching your videos, only wish you would make videos of other Mexican cities/towns that you would recommend. Sure is more than just your town. You seem to have "good taste" and a wealth of knowledge about Mexico. It's nice to have had a $200,000 "cushion" to start over again; but many of us do not due to no fault of our own. Having a RV like yours would be considered a mansion to live in. Proud of both you and your wife. Any other cities in Mexico you would suggest?

There are many places in Mexico that expats have found to be wonderful and there are other channels that talk about them. I only talk about what I know. Try Jerry Brown Travels. The talk a lot about small towns on the coast. Try Tangerine Travels, Erin's Travels, Kennetic Kennons, True Mexico, Mexico Now . These are some of my favorites. :)

I been loving these super nice videos of american people enjoying Mexico, I just want you to know that there`s many many good things about american culture too, like being so smart, the fact you send Christian missionaries to Mexico, and many other things I could say, anyways have you ever think about going at a Christian church there in Chapala? maybe you can have a Bible study at home, God bless you.

Well articulated about living in "a country that already knows how to be poor"

Also, some people choose a minimalist lifestyle because they are concerned about the environment, and the needless destruction we wreak on Mother Earth with our insistence upon acquiring unnecessary stuff.
@JCTravelStories6 жыл бұрын
Another VERY good reason to pursue a minimalist lifestyle. I am embarrassingly hypocritical on this one. I'll work on me.

Do you already have a video on the traditional Ajijic attitude toward terminal conditions? Letting nature take it's course & no heroics ...

I don't have a video about that. Should I make one?

In other words, you like the bohemia weather side and sight of that area part of town...i got it, i like bohemia ambient of things myself which makes me a 'bohemio'. Bohemian(eng) and Bohemio(spa) has the same meaning in Spanish and English which is "romantic guy with character."
@JCTravelStories6 жыл бұрын
I like your definition of Bohemian, but I think the common usage describes an artist or a common person with strange behavior.

I love America but I have lived in South America because after I was hurt on the job and make 1/3 of what I made when I was able to work, I had to find a place I could to afford to live while the company I worked for tried to starve me out.

Glad you found a workable solution to that problem! :)

I enjoy watching your channel, my family is from Tlaquepaque. I don’t know how I came across your channel but glad I did.

I take everyone who visits to Tlaquepaque. I especially love taking people who thought everything in Mexico is cheap to Sergio Bustamonte's Studio.

You made the best decision. Especially choosing a tropical latitude, however being at a considerable altitude. Gosh. You have San Diego, CA weather without the winter. Cheers!

Man, I know what you mean about Oregon's weather . I lived on the coast for too long . Yes it's beautiful, but wet (on the west side), most of the year .

Nice Video JC, like always but......we DO have mortgage loans in Mexico for 10, 15, 20 or even more years, it depends on your income. It would be wonderful if everyone had enough money to buy and to pay a house in cash. Greetings
@JCTravelStories6 жыл бұрын
As I said ... Mexico is no longer a 3rd world country in banking, either. Good to now about the availability of mortgages now. Could it also depend upon whether or not you are a citizen of Mexico. In the US, foreign nationals would have a very difficult time getting a loan. Say hi to that soon to be older guy there. :)

As a fellow Oregonian, I hear you very clearly. We are, however, having a pretty dry spring here so far this year. Sunny today in Lincoln City.

Oh how I wish I had known about Ajijic ten years ago! I had some money then, and was a lot more agile. Thank you for discussing (what I feel I am facing alone) the monumental decision to 'hang up the keys'. I have spent some time in Mexico, and loved the people and their strong family values. I will follow your Journaling with great interest.

I love your channel + you & your dear wife. If the time comes (& I turn 63 in a week or so w/ major health issues), I'd love to find a little place like Aijijic, although not a large place & I'd need the exchange rate more in our favor. The beginnings of yr video were too funny. If the time comes, there are definitely things I'd like to know, but I just don't care to bring the whole channel along for the ride. Sigh. We, too, have had bitterly cold rain & snow on the Mountains. (I love mountains, wherever they might be!) I truly love your beautiful home in Mexico & I've always found the love for family to fit with our family's. The loss of God & love of family have taken our beloved US into a place that is going downhill on a greased sled. I saw that, very clearly, in my mid to late teens & I've seen nothing to contradict it. May all go well for you in your travels, with your wife you so obviously adore, &, finally, with your going home. God's blessings upon you.
