I get jealous over friends that are closer to other people than they are to me. All of my friends have someone else that they are closer to, and they do things without including me, and it leaves me feeling like I am not good enough, that they would rather spend their time with someone else or that there's something wrong with me. I don't know how to get over this. I just want to be the person that a friend feels closest to. How do I validate to myself that I am good enough when my life keeps showing me that I am not?
@YoyoBear129 жыл бұрын
I feel the exact same way sometimes. Like one of my best friends has another best friend and I feel like sometimes I am the last to know things or the mere thought that the other best friend knows more about my best friend than I do makes me feel jealous. I think that in those moments I remind myself that it's ok to have more than one best friend.

I feel the same also. I have three best friends and we're all close but recently I've been feeling left out of our friendship group because they're always making plans without me or we'll be having a conversation but I won't have a clue what they're talking about and it makes me feel left out and like I shouldn't be apart of the group. I also found out that all my friends have a group chat without me which was originally made so that one of them could bitch about me
@ConnieMichelle9 жыл бұрын
In high school, I was the friend that you are saying you're jealous of. My best friend and I were inseparable. We instantly became insanely close from the start of our relationship, and our other friend was in your position. I think from my stand point, it's really important to understand that YOU are not doing anything wrong. It's not that we don't like you, or we don't want to hang out with you. It's just that we are closer to each other than we are to you. I think the only way to truly move past jealousy is to really try to accept that it's not you and not to let it control you. We still had fun with her and genuinely liked her, but eventually little shots of her jealousy came out and ended the friendship. After 4 years, my best friend and I are still inseparable and the other friend is doing her own thing. Just be yourself and be happy, branch out and continue the search for your number 1!! Remember to live for yourself, if you aren't happy then change it! No one can stop you!

Such a great topic, especially for how easy it is for people to portray their lives or themselves in a way right now that we've never been able to before. We have the option to be authentically candid or extremely filtered, and with that comes a lot of comparing our mistakes and losses to other people's supposed highlight reels. I like to remind myself that it's so easy to exaggerate the happiness of others, but there's a true level of connection where we all have, at one point or another, felt the same not-so-good feelings that just come along with being alive and living through the experiences of life. I think the more we all learn to love our own story, the less the destination of other people matters so much to us and also, the more amazingly satisfying the journey becomes. Thanks so much for sharing, Ingrid! ♥

Exactly!!! I think she really missed pointing out how so many of us compare ourselves and everything about ourselves (the good and bad) to the meticulously edited version of other people's lives (the good and the photoshopped amazing). We have to recognize that that's not real. Thats not all there is to their life. That's another way we can prevent ourselves from feeling that kind of jealousy.

I'm someone who has always been super jealous too, but i'm getting better at making it a fleeting thought rather than a constant reminder. You just have to try to put into perspective exactly what it is that's making you jealous within you not the other person, which is easier said than done but the more you can manage it the easier it gets. Definitely a 5MFU that hits home, loving this series :)

Completely relatable! And I agree that it has to do with a person's mindset and what kind of a place they're in with their life. It takes time to be content with yourself when others exceed at things that aren't a strength for you. I know I've struggled with that, but we have to understand that we can't be good at anything and everything!

I'm jealous of everything in my relationship and it sucks. It sucks for me, it probably sucks for them... and it's so hard sometimes to just tell them and be like "hey this thing right now is making me worried or insecure or jealous and I don't mean to do it and it sucks"... sometimes just saying it out loud to them helps so that I don't bury it and sometimes they can reassure me that the situation I'm afraid of isn't even happening... it's easy when you DON'T know how a situation really is to not just imagine the worst and being reminded that nothing is happening really has helped me be more rational in the future because I can think back on the other times that were okay and just be like "okay I was wrong and silly then, so I'm just being wrong and silly now so don't worry..."

So so true!!! I get sad seeing people get jealous of someone else over a career path or something another person is getting that they might want...instead of being jealous, turn that into a "hey this person is doing awesome things and I would love to do awesome things as well so I'm going to keep working hard to achieve what I want" :)

I think jealousy and the image you have of yourself are linked. When you are insecure, jealousy is something that occurs more easily. Working on getting less jealous would be working on building up confidence in yourself and working on starting to believe you are good enough, fun enough etc. So it also depends on what you are insecure about wether you get jealous in a certain situation.

Ok, Ingrid, true, it is easy to convince yourself that a certain situation is happening, when in fact nothing is happening HOWEVER, it is also very easy to convince yourself that nothing is happening, when you really should be cautious. I've been similar in relationships. My first was long distance so if they'd go out with friends I would be jealous that I couldn't be there. My last relationship was a lot more complicated. Not so much jealousy but insecurity. Those emotions do tend to go together though. However, I could sense something was off and I was right. He was never completely honest and it turned into an emotionally abusive situation. I do think a little jealousy in a relationship is normal. But when it goes past that and there's a lack of trust and feeling in your gut that something is off, that's not okay and not a good relationship to be in. Or even if there's nothing wrong and it's an otherwise healthy relationship but you still feel that jealousy creeping in, just take a step back and remember that that person chose you and all your awesomeness!
@emmatranter_9 жыл бұрын
i think a lot of my jealousy issues stem from feeling like i have to be totally the best at something to enjoy it or want to pursue it as a career or find it worth my time, and it's taking me a lot of work to sort of validate myself and realise that it's ok if other people are better at some things than me, especially because often they've been at it longer and you don't get successful overnight, it takes time and energy and hard work, but... i'm definitely getting better at seeing that!

I always feel so guilty whenever I feel jealous because I feel like I'm being ungrateful and selfish. As much as I tried to reassure myself to be grateful for the things I have, in the back of my head is this small thought of 'I want these opportunities too so badly'. But it's something I'm working on at the moment and a method that seems to be working so far is using that negative feeling of jealousy and turning it into a positive motivation where I tell myself 'I can also have those opportunities too if I work hard for it!' That's not necessarily a bad thing right?

whenever you're in a relationship it is more wrong than right to keep in contact with an "Ex" because it just is; you're not going to be hanging out with somebody you once loved while currently in a relationship with somebody else.. it's simply wrong and should be Respected by that partner. So that isn't jealousy you're just aware of the bs that's happening infront of you & sooner or later people get too comfortable... you're perfect ingrid.
