Man I was 14yrs old when this came out I had the PlayStation Demo Disc (May 2004) that had the opening trailer included I watched it at least 6 times a day and I still have the disc to this day. Childhood Memories...

Samurai's Destiny would require the estate of Matsuda Yūsaku for his likeliness to be used again in a remaster, and Demon Siege would need Jean Reno's approval to use his, too. We have a better chance of the Onimusha series being rebooted with a whole new set of actors.

Dawn of Dream would have been the easiest to post over, but having that alone with Warlords would have confused a lot of people. I hope they reboot this series with Kaneshiro Takeshi, but have all other characters be original designs to prevent a headache from happening again.

I would LOVE for you to play more Onimusha. Its next to Viewtiful Joe as my favorite abandoned Capcom IP. And who knows maybe we'll get a repeat of Yakuza where the exposure you give it causes then to finally give us some stuff with it again

This takes me way back. Like you, I rented this game having been a fan of the previous two. This one definitely felt more like an action game, and it was pretty cool being able to play as Jean Reno, who was having a bit of a moment; I remember he was even featured in some Marvel Comics. Since Capcom seems to be hungry for that sweet, sweet remake action (and doing a pretty good job of it so far), Onimusha is definitely a franchise that deserves a comeback!

Man out of all the other Onimusha games that need a remastered, this one especially needs it. I'd love to see Matt's reactions to some of the stuff later in the game (like Jean jumping onto a boat with a motorcycle or Jennifer Hale's Zoo Adventure)

Jean Reno's dubbed in English because he started speaking Japanese in Ancient Japan due to magic. So, either way, his voice was in the game for about five seconds, but it made more sense in context.

at least Leon's voice actor from RE4 got to voice Jean Reno in English here to further strengthen the connection to "Leon: The Professional" Edit: Actually, listening to the music around 16 minutes into the video you can even hear sound used for music in RE4 as well

Here’s a fun fact, it sucks that you lose all 3 of samanosukes orbs/original weapons. But completing certain demon realms as Jacque and samanosuke will obtain the orbs. So your next play through unlocks them.

I always forget to comment on videos, but I for one would love to see more Onimusha, it's a childhood favorite of mine, and I've taken to speedrunning the HD release of Warlords in my free time. Even if you just continue to do one-shots of the other games in the franchise, which there are only 3 left to choose from lol, it's good to see the franchise get some much deserved love

I always wondered why they used Jean Reno's likeness, but not his voice. Selling a game on that actors facial recognition alone seemed like a weird flex.

IMO from Capcom's POV they only wanna pay the actor for their likeness, to sell the game. It'd be additional funds they'd have to pay the actors for them to voice act as well, and most of them aren't experienced voice actors, they're film actors. Finally it doesn't cost shit to pay some non union scabs to voice the characters, or use those funds to afford higher profile voice actors, but at least it's not Jean Reno prices.

Still, it’s such a blast the first time you control Michelle and pull off a few Issens. If you ever play further and get to the Michelle section...GO BACK THROUGH THE SEWERS ALL THE WAY TO THE ARC D’ TRIUMPH.

What I like about the Onimusha series is that even though it has oni, demons, undead armies and such, it stayed close (enough) to the actual Japanese history. Akechi Samanosuke seem to be an amalgam of Akechi Mitsuhide, who historically killed Nobunaga in the burning Tenno-Ji temple and Mitsuhide's son in law Akechi Hidemitsu who was called Samanosuke as a courtesy title. (Spoiler for Onimusha 4) Samanosuke reappears in Dawn of Dreams as Tenkai, which alluded to the real life Tenkai, a Buddhist monk and advisor to Toyotomi Hideyoshi which are often romanticized in Japanese literature as Akechi Mitsuhide himself who gave up his own name or faked his own death to become a priest. Honestly I don't know how they would continue the series past that, though supposedly Hidemitsu's descendants include the Bakufu era political activist Sakamoto Ryoma.

Is beautiful to see this when I am re-playing Onimusha 2 and 3. Sucks that we never had a new Onimusha on PS3 or PS4,a lot. Capcom had to remaster Genma Onimusha (a better version and with more contents on the first Xbox) not the PS2 version that,to me,today hasn't aged that well (no skippable cutscenes and that Water Puzzle part are bad).Also I think Onimusha 2,especially 3 because is modernized,could be the real remaster that can sell "a lot" and making a game new game like Nioh but Onimusha style not a Souls-like.
