An absolute gem of a game. The movie-like intro is so outstanding, it’s one of the few video game moments I would share with my non video game friends and family. If only Jean Reneau had voiced the English dialogue, it would have put the game over the top. I tried so hard to perfect the timing on the counters and the 10-swing in Demon form. I remember spending hours in the Dark realm challenge area, having a blast. Onimusha 3 is an all time great.

It’s disappointing they still aren’t considering making a sequel for Onimusha due to the poor sales of the warlords remaster, imagine the possibilities if they used the RE engine, a legit survival horror/action samurai vs. demons game.

As much as I'd like another Onimusha I don't think it really needs a sequel honestly. Dawn of Dreams had a pretty closed and conclusive ending to the series, thats probably why they haven't made another one.
@zeroattentiongaming8203 жыл бұрын
@@asiamatron Well Dragon's Dogma 2 is still a real possibility as Itsuno was given the choice between it and DMC 5 when he approached the Capcom higher ups about them. He chose to do DMC 5 first as he felt he owed it to the fanbase after so many years. Everything I've seen suggested that it wasn't a one or the other choice, just that he chose to finish DMC properly first. His loyalty to his fans aside, Dragon's Dogma was his baby. The game he always wanted to make. I'm certain he will be doing a sequel if that is still on the table with the higher ups. I'm not happy that Onimusha died again but I get it. However I see no reason they would be against DD2 when they were supportive of it before DMC 5 started development. If anything, Itsuno's insane success both critically and commercially with DMC 5 should have them more supportive of him making a passion project they were already willing to fund.
@zeroattentiongaming8203 жыл бұрын
@@STRING3R Dawn of Dreams was meant to be a new start, hence the Japanese title Shin Onimusha translating to New Ogre Warrior rather than being called Onimusha 4. Along with the massively expanded gameplay, it acted as an epilogue to the original series that started something new. It never got a sequel because the series, despite increasingly strong critical reception with each title did worse commercially each time. Warlords was the first ps2 title to break 2 million sales, a very high benchmark to meet and each sequel sold less and less. They were already going out on a limb with DoD as an attempt to revitalize the series commercially. They tried to keep the series alive well past what most companies would've but just like with Warlords HD it just wasn't selling well enough to warrant that treatment any further. Capcom had repeatedly discussed reviving the series internally for years before they actually attempted it with Warlords HD. They know how dedicated the fans are and how legendary the series was in its own time. They wanted to bring it back for a long time but the usual HD port way of testing the waters Capcom employs just didn't pan out.

I was 10 y/old the first time I saw anything about Onimusha, this was in 2006, I remember walking through a mall with who was my friend back then while his mom was at the beauty salon getting her hair done, and we stopped at this videogame store, and they always had videogame trailers displayed on tv or just games running on the background, one of them was the intro of Onimusha 3, my friend and I would stop at the entrance staring and watching the entire video, never got to see the name of the game, but it stuck with me. Eventually I found out the name of the game, but got to play them in 2020, absolute masterpieces.

I recall back when I worked in a gaming store, this was a couple of years after the Oni 3's release, we had a big tv behind the counter that we were supposed to use to display whatever was new that week. There was one week where whatever we were promoting sold so well that we didn't have a copy in the shop to have running behind us. So I recommended playing Oni 3 because the intro was so awesome. It's cool that they touched on the events at Honouji Temple. As someone who has been reading as much samurai history and lore as I can, I find the lack of information on what transpired to be the ultimate tease. Akechi Mitsuhide (the historical figure Samonosuke is based on) turned on Oda for an unknown reason; he killed the young page Ranmaru, who really did try to defend Nobunaga, but was defeated in combat. It's a still unsolved mystery as to why Akechi went on this warpath, so it's cool to see Onimusha touch on this moment in military history.

This was my first ever PS2 game, and one of the first games I remember playing. I was 6 at the time, and I remember being really shocked at how violent the game was, but at the same time, the whole opening was so cool that I couldn't just stop playing (to be fair, most of my childhood was playing and watching things that were aimed at a somewhat older audience and arguably too violent for a child). I couldn't understand a fraction of whatever was going on, because at the time, I had no knowledge of a single word of english, japanese OR french. That also meant I had no idea of what "load game" meant, so I kept restarting the game every single time. Unsurprisingly, I never advanced much, but dang, I played this game a LOT anyways

This game on my CRT over component looks jaw dropping after all these years. I know that this isn't a survival horror but if you enjoyed Onimusha so much you may really want to check out Genji Dawn of the Samurai, it's very similar to Onimusha 2. And about the PC port looking worse, sometimes older PC games relied on special hardware to make certain effects that may be missing on modern GPUs (Probably the most known example is PhysX), and that's starting to be very evident as years come by, hopefully someday we get emulation of some sort for that kind of stuff.

Sekiro is awesome too, it takes me back to the days when I played the whole Onimusha Series and the Tenchu Series, which Sekiro feels like both games combined into one, with a little bit of Dark Souls.

@@jerrym1218 I already beaten it. The reason I said Dark Souls is because of the gear and armor you can acquire through the level where we can get certain armor and weapons and get invaded by others players etc...

@@Aibadenshi- That’s cool, and now I see what you meant, and although Sekiro was an awesome game based on an ancient period of Japan which resembled the Feudal Era, and precision sword fighting was a main selling point of the entire game, with the enemies getting more and more skilled as you progressed further on throughout the vast world of the game. It really didn’t have weapon and armor variety, the Katana that was given to you by the Divine Heir was basically your only main weapon, even though you still did have the Prosthetic Tool, Shinobi gadgets and side weapons here and there at your disposal, we still could have had the ability to obtain new weapons and train with them and develop new fighting styles with them, along with different types of garbs and armor would have been cool to have too. Despite the lack of main weapon and armor variety, I still loved Sekiro. It took me back to the times of when and how I played the entire Onimusha and Tenchu franchises, and overall gave me a sense of this feels familiar and it’s a good thing.

Man....I fucking love onimusha. I found all 3 games in a bargain bin as a kid. My mom could not afford to buy me many games, so bargain bin was essentially the top shelf for me. I remember picking all 3 of them up for about 15 bucks each, expecting some basic hack and slash samurai game I could kill time with. They quickly became some of my fave games on the system and I still own my original copies to this day. They had no business being in that bin, but boy I am glad they were. Now we just need the rest of them on steam.

2 years for that intro?!!! And Donnie Yen as fight choreographer? Now I understand why that intro stands in a class of it's own, compared to other game intros.

Capcom's Samurai Jack lol 😛 I'm plesantly surprised you skipped straight to Onimusha 3 instead of doing Blade Warriors next. Thank god lol.

Onimusha 3 has one of the greatest intros known to gaming history. Absolutely amazing

How did you do that summon stuff to help you there is some stuff in your video I don't remember seeing or experiencing guess I'm not the completionist I thought I was unless it's footage from a game that's not the original disc

Am I the only one who enjoys Dirge of Cerberus? It may be because I was a big FF7 fan before 9 stole my heart for the 3D ones, but I still think it is a great game. That tangent aside. Onimusha 3 is my favorite out of the series.

You are not alone, I love Dirge of Cerberus too. I basically listen to “Silent Edge” on repeat with my headphones from time to time lol. It’s so sad that a lot of people don’t like it, they probably just expected something different or just have no patience with it and it’s gameplay and story like we did. FF 9 is amazing and is my second favorite behind FF 6.

Great video. I've owned this game for years, but have yet to play it. I should do something about that.

Honestly, it's about knowing about what you're talking about. I cringe really hard when in 2021 people still pronounce Ryu as Rayoo.

I recently found Oni 1 and Blade Warriors at a used game shop and thought of this channel; I went instead with a mint copy of MGS for the PS, but I intend to go back for those two! Any chance of seeing a MGS series? I spent as much time in those games as I did in Oni.

It's a damn shame how the closest thing to a Proper Remaster...is to play the Quadrilogy (Yes i am including Dawn of dreams as well) in by emulating it at 4k with some tweaks in the options. Surprisingly the newer verison of PCSX2 offers even more better performances so it's always worth replaying it now.

I remember getting into this series thanks to a CD at a gaming magazine incluing the CGI OP. When are you going to talk about all of the demons being from Shakespeare's Hamlet?

I’m presently streaming and playing this game on my PC. I haven’t played it in a decade and it’s just as good as I remember. I’ve been playing it in parts but plan to stream the entire gameplay on my channel. I think it’s funny how 2 days ago I start streaming this and then this review comes out. I’d suggest this game to anyone who enjoys a good story and decent challenge.

I may have to revisit this one again. I felt like the last time I played it for the review I just didn't feel it coming off as strong as the first two, but I do love its charm. Somehow I never thought about comparing it to a buddy cop movie! Great work here man!

Had a great time playing the game back when it came out, and quite enjoyed the story as it had the right levels of cheese from both the absurd plot and localized voice acting, it was also great to see Samanosuke's story reach a proper conclusion after the somewhat abrupt end of the original game where it seems like he's about to fight Nobunaga, and then nothing happens.
