This reminds me of traditional Korean tteok! Specifically the kind that has no filling, it’s just sweet, chewy rice flour cakes with nuts and covered in sesame seeds (I don’t know what that type is called lol, but my grandpa makes it a lot and it’s delicious!) It’s so cool to me that you can find similar dishes across cultures :)

Palitaw = To appear. So once they appear (float on top) they are good 👍😊 Some places call it Dila-dila = Tounge-like. Self explanatory.

This is one of my favorite Pinoy desserts! My grandpa used to grind out coconut meat by hand on one of his og bench grinders. I tried frinding it out a few times but i was such a small kid i couldn't get any, he had muscles for that while being at his 60's! The 1st time he made palitaw like this for us will always be a treasured memory. Everytime i hear or see a street vendor with this, im always guaranteed to buy at least a dozen because its that good 😂 (theres more different varieties that i also try to buy but this one always is my priority)

“Palitaw” means “to appear out of somewhere” in tagalog. In this case Palitaw is a rice dessert or mirienda that appears or float above water once they are cooked thoroughly. Very yummy with those toppings shown in the video. I love eating these with hot cocoa or coffee. 🤤

For our dip - We always cook our sesame seed like frying it in without oil so later when it's brownish and you can see the sesame seed looks like it glazed bec of its natural oil inside the seed. We jst put it in container or even small saucer then when it's not hot we crush them with rolling pins the aroma of sesame seed is so great then we mix with sugar thats jst it we take some cook glutinous rice and dip in it. Others put some grated coconut so they in the mixture of sugar and sesame seed.

*I loooove palitaw! That used to be the cheapest snack at my school 10 years ago. My parents rarely ever gave me school money cause they'd send me off with a lunchbox full of food so in the off chance that they did, I'd only get like $1 so I'd make a beeline for this knowing how good it is. Palitaw was super cheap but delicious enough to be my favorite Filipino snack even to this day.*
