Besides being super cute and relatively quick, this is a great skill and confidence building block to make, not to mention how visually satisfying it is. Jeans perfectly clear instructions make this one a joy to sew. As for trimming the block down to 9 1/2”; that is made simple for the fact that it already has 4 perfect center points. When you lay your 9 1/2” ruler across those points both vertically and horizontally at the 4 3/4” lines (half of 9 1/2”) it will be centered, ready to trim. Don’t be afraid to try this lovely block!
@jeantruelovetruelovequiltsfory5 жыл бұрын
Wait! Is 4.75 the same as 4 3/4??!!? Someone else mentioned that number and I politely, because I'm ever so polite, (LOL!) didn't know what they were talking about!!! But I DO know about 3/4" on the ruler!! THANK YOU Jan!! LOL! Either way just cut it to 9 1/2" and we'll call it a day!! LOL!

It was not hard at all because you explained it so well! After seeing your wonderful quilts at the end of the video I am inspired to make a whole quilt with this block as well! Craft room is almost clean so I can start sewing soon and get caught up. Thanks again for all you do for us! P.S Hope Maxwell is doing well with the job training.

Thanks Patricia, I will have to try the block, but I have numb hands with the disease I have, and looked hard to cut the center and do that. I just get so frustrated at times. I will try, but I have to finish my first project of making Jean's xmas table runner started last march for my daughters birthday. A year sitting on my table. Her birthday was the 15th of march. I have to finish it.

It's funny because I have been a card maker (rubber stamps & such) & paper crafter for over 25 years and I find myself when cleaning my craft room thinking about my sewing more & more. I'm trying to figure out what I need to get rid of so I have room for my new sewing machine and all the material & supplies that go a long with it. Lol! I have removed a lot of paper crafting supplies but I think I will need more room for my sewing stash. Sound familiar? ;-)

@@patriciadolinsek6112 I have a acrylic quilting table for my singer machine, in its box for at least 3 yrs, I took it out tonight to put on my singer sewing machine, but it didn't fit, I bought a gray professional one, and it goes to that, but the other had the needle down thing I liked. I never used the professional one, so I guess I have to use it. I was happy because it has the holes like jeans for circles. Whoo whoo. Well, never got to finish cutting the squares for the runner. I will do tomorrow I hope. I have 2 beagles and every time I sit down to do something they want out. I take out on a leash, its hard getting around, but it gives me exercise.

I have trouble cutting. Maybe make to a smaller size. Should I not cut each square before putting together or wait till I have the unit. It probably not go together if not even size. I will see. I will try that block, but doing the center part seemed to complicated for me and using hands that are numb might be a problem. I have trouble cutting. @@donnarichey144 If your hands hurt this might not be a good block for you to try because you DO need to be able to turn the fabric, hold it carefully and stitch. As far as making a block smaller than the measurements I give, that is a whole 'nother ballgame! Hi Jean. Just a small thing. The yellow writing across your screen when you are explaining something is very hard to see when it is not on the black background. I miss what you write because the yellow mixes with all the colours of the fabric etc. Would it be possible to write in black so it stands out, I so enjoy your wonderful, friendly teaching.

{Problem!! When I was (wrongly)doing videos with the black top and bottom, I could put the writing in the black, no issues, however I was shown, FINALLY, how to get the full screen. HOWEVER ~~~ no place to put writing! I opt for the bright highlighter yellow (out of many colors available) because, Believe it or not, that is what SHOWS UP THE BEST!! Black doesn't! White is sometimes better, but the Yellow is the best. I have tried and tried all different colors! So we just have to muddle on through......

You first need to get the basic basic sewing supplies, if you don't have them. Sewing machine, rulers, cutting mats, rotary cutters, etc., and then you need to start with just a basic skill, such as sewing squares together. My 'Jean's Block Party 2019, begins with me telling you what kind of fabric you need, and then goes into making basic blocks. You might want to look that up:)
