Yeah Buff Duds. I always set my un-racking pins low. So when I have to finish I don't have to extend upward at the end. I just move forward and drop it in place. Reasoning being that at the start of your lift you are fresh and at the end your not. If one end of the lift is going to be made more difficult. Make it the start over the end. :)

My mind is totally blown; I started coming to this gym (Madras Fitness Center, now Madtown Fitness or something) when I was like 13, and there was a bulletin board with a bunch of ads and stuff. I'd always notice this newspaper clipping of a local bodybuilder named Brandon White who won first place at a competition, but that was the only time I ever saw or heard of him. Lo and behold, after years of occasionally checking out Buff Dude's videos, I check the "About" page and find out Brandon is Brandon white, from my own home town! Sorry, it's just weird to suddenly realize I could've seen these guys around town a few years back, and I never would've realized. And now they're training Lewis... I used to watch his big brother Jack play football. Anyway, this probably doesn't sound nearly as neat as it feels. "Cool story bro", eh?
@kelvinpineda52337 жыл бұрын
NightWatchman Cool story bro. No really, it's a great story!
@joshjohnston73887 жыл бұрын
Brandon has done a ton of other stuff too. Watch the God of War: Ascension trailer. Kratos before he's Kratos? Yep. That's Brandon. But that is a cool story.
@nightwatchman79857 жыл бұрын
Josh Johnston Yeah, I stumbled across some local newspaper archives online that helped me piece things together-- really cool to find out that a family in my town was into making short films, and that Brandon landed a role as Kratos! Madras doesn't have the greatest reputation; high teen pregnancy rates, drug use, poor school performance, bad at most sports, culture of mediocrity and failure-- but there are people who come out alright (or much better than alright)! The Buff Dudes, Jacoby Ellsbury, and who knows who else now? Coming from a small town (population ~6k?) like Madras, it's just shocking to realize you've failed to notice someone who did something big with their life! Too bad my high school coaches didn't show us Buff Dudes videos! They didn't know much about weight training, and I sure could've used the help, haha.

Hey dude - that's awesome. Thanks for the backstory. The picture is actually still there, we should shoot it in the next video. We spent a big portion of our teen years growing up in this town and the gym really helped to keep us busy and set both short and long term goals. And thankfully Jack is still really into lifting weights. If he's in town we will definitely feature him in a future video as well. He's in college right now but he visits from time to time. And hope your training is still going well!!

Check out one of their first workout videos with Big Louie (Teens Bodybuilding Program), they did a couple of them I think. The one where you rest your back leg on your knee and the front one is under 90 degree angle, and you have to remember to even out your hips so that they're parallel. I found myself that if you pull the hip back on the front leg's side, you stretch it more.
@DovidStern7 жыл бұрын
I also had some form. Athlean X had some good stuff that helped me. The jist of it is to do some QL stretches, be okay lowering your weight if your progress stalls. I also do 90x90 stretches for my hips (or half-pidgeon yoga pose). A supplement that helped me with my hip pain (in a serious way) is glucosamine sulfate.

Hey Hudson, I'm curious; how did you impinge your shoulders and how long has it taken for you to heal? Does an injury ever truly heal or is it one of those things you have to accommodate for in your program forever afterwards? Reason I ask is four months ago I pretty severely injured my upper back at my warehouse job and it's stopped me from doing any back-related lifting since then. I've been unable to do anything close to a deadlift, row, pullup, etc. and for the past two months I've done purely bodyweight workouts. Last week is when my Doctor said I could return to heavy lifting, so I'm resuming it this week. I'm also planning on starting your 12 Week Plan soon once I test my strength levels and get a feel on how my back is, although I've resumed doing heavy work at my job and my back has mostly felt good doing that kind of lifting. Thanks

Which would you recommend, barbell hack squat or trapbar deadlift as a substitute for barbell squat? I am still working on my mobility and have had back issues in the past. The mobility issues and mental issues ( fear of snap city) has me avoiding heavy back squats.
@joshjohnston73887 жыл бұрын
The form for barbell hack squats is waaaay more difficult to perform properly than a back squat. They're probably good for assistance, but the back squat (high or low bar) is the standard squat for a reason. You gotta work on that mobility and make sure your form isn't putting undue pressure on your back. A poorly-performed hack squat is gonna put a ton of pressure on your lower back.

Why don't you go to failure? I mean like in several sets its seems that you could pull out a couple more reps but you just finish at 3 reps. Isn't training to failure good?
@TwoStupidGeniuses7 жыл бұрын
Ákásh Déép Well, sometimes, but not when you're training strictly for strength. When you go to failure, especially with heavy weight, it is very stressful on your central nervous system, or your CNS. When your CNS is fatigued, it can't tell your muscles to contract as hard as possible while you lift, and as a result, you get weaker. So you might have one or two good sets, but you'll be trashed for the rest of the workout.
