Jeep 4xe Wrangler B9a Recall Update. How Long Should It take? Updated Software?

We had ours done today. Invoice says B9A completed. "Run Pre-check B9A Battery Integrity Procedure and Reprogram Battery Pack Control Module (BCPM) and Run B9A Battery Integrity Procedure 18-B9-A1-82." Took 2 and a half hours. Ours was definitely fully updated as I always see software updates noted on the service invoice when it's in for maintenance. No other software upgrades are noted today other than B9A and the 04B recall. Our service writer said pretty much what your tech said, she was surprised I was questioning the timing and she made it clear that in these situations they follow procedures to the letter since if they don't and there's an issue, they'll be liable. Was charged when I picked it up.

I had RRT 23-036 and 23-037 done in January, but I know not everything was fully up to date because I didn't have the latching electric/hybrid mode function but now I do after the B9A. The dealer notes from B9A says reprogrammed BPCM and AHCP. 23-036 says updated IDCM, 23-037 says updated BPCM. Point is that which of these modules would have the battery software to check the status? BPCM = Battery Pack Control Module. Assuming the BPCM is the module testing the battery, it does appear there was another update, since mine was last updated in January 2024. But pretty sure they didn't charge it since it came back at 19%, which is same as when I brought it in.

So far I'm hearing speculation. But what we do know Stelantis is only paying the service centers for one hour. That leaves the dealers holding the bag for 7 to 8 hrs of billable time for the technicians. The average dealership only has 2 charging stations therefore limiting them to carrying out 2 recall updates in one business day. The question now becomes how many dealerships will be willing to do a propper update then do the test and eat the extra 7 hours labor?

This recall is old now. Yes, the pay was about an hour. To be fair would you expect to be paid while the Jeep is charging? The actual work time on the recall was in line with what the pay was. If the dealers are limited on chargers, that could be a hurdle.

When I heard about the recall I went to the dealer in Jupiter Florida. And and told the dealer that I heard about the recall and I didn’t want my jeep to catch on fire he smiled and he said he would look it up 10 minutes later. He came back and said bring the Jeep in tomorrow which is the next day I brought it in at 8 o’clock within four hours I had the Jeep back they said the recall was done. It was the software problem. It’s a 2024 high altitude built in June 2023 , when I took it to the dealer it had 3500 miles on it and it was January 2024 they said everything was done. What can I tell you? I have 7000 mile on as of March 13 no problem charges good runs good

If the dealer only does the update won’t the vehicle basically perform all the tests over a couple of recharges?

In theory... Yes. But then you're wasting your time and risking a failure while you're charging too.

Mine was done 2 weeks ago. They had it long enough to do the 8hr process, but it came back at 19% charge, which is where it was when I brought it in, so it appears the battery was never charged. How does that work?

I would definitely question the dealer. Or reach out to Jeep, mention you saw our video - they have been looking into incomplete recalls.

Mine failed the recall test, they told me it needs a new battery and gave me a rental. Now it’s been a month and a half, no word from Jeep or the dealer! How long will this last?!!!!

Before. I just bought this 4xe used from a Jeep dealer and it only had 850 miles on it.@@JeepsOnTheRun

Had my wife’s in this morning. Dealer took less than an hour. Picked up and am now getting ( about 20 times or so in 20 miles ) “ Aux switches unavailable battery charging “ advisor stated he hasn’t seen this after the update. Any comments? Guess I’ll be bringing it back but heck of a coincidence!

seems like an odd error from the update, I'd agree.I will say no chance this recall can be done rightin less than an hour!! I'd question the dealer.

@@JeepsOnTheRun took it back they said the regular battery was bad and replaced it. Just a strange coincidence? My wife said the range is about 3 miles 😏 going to have to check that to believe it.

Drove it on the expressway the next day and got about 17-18 miles electric. Seems normal to me.

@JeepsOnTheRun went it for updates, now it won't start.or sometimes it will start but you can't shut it off,unable to charge,zero power steering, nothing on the inside works. It's completely dead. The delership has changed out the hi voltage battery, pcm,and some modules but nothing has fixed it... the service tec though it was fixed until he took it on a test drive and it quit working again

Sorry if this comment is shown multiple times. For some reason it doesn’t show or post when I click comment. Anyways, I dropped my 2021 4XE off at the dealership yesterday for this recall. I was told it would take 3 days to complete the test and another to replace the battery if needed. So far my service guy hasn’t seen any fail.

Its sad that i truly loved my 21 Jeep 4xe. It ended up at the dealership with this and other issues for 5 months.. it was hell and disappointing... yea never again!

I curious as well. We have a 21 Rubi and have had only a coolant bypass valve replaced. All other work was maintenance and software updates ( most of which were done while in for maintenance ). This exceeded my expectations for a new vehicle. Also love the 4xe. I have averaged about 30 mpg on a 40 mile round trip commute.
