I recently purchased and installed a set (4) of Rancho RS5000X’s for my ‘16 JKU, had the factory shocks paired with Terra Flex’s budget boost lift spacers sitting in 33” Tires and 18x9 Method MR309 wheels.These Rancho Shocks are WAYYYY better than stock (obviously) I should of done this awhile ago. The trails I go to have moderate/difficult obstacles and fire roads, these shocks handle them great, less bouncing around inside the cabin and less front noise dip from my aftermarket Steel bumper w/Warn winch.

Do you have bump stops on your JKU? I've got a 2011 and my front bump stop are ALWAYS hitting the extenders. I've got some older Rancho shocks on the front, but I'm thinking of going to these to keep that THUMP from happening all the time. I run 37s with a 3" lift on the front. I put the bump stop extenders to ensure they didn't smack my front stock fenders. I like the stock fender-look. Help me out! Am I doing in the right direction with these Rancho RS5000X's, or is my situation with my setup, in general?

He Eddie and fans, just wanted your opinion. luckily I don't have a DW yet. I installed the Rancho 2" lift kit with the RS9000xl series shocks, and added the Evo LCA drop bracket. With new front/ rear coil springs. in one part of town where the road transitions to either a bridge or overpass bridge, that bump for some reason would cause my front tires to bounce for a second and go away. I can hit multiple and steeper bumps throughout town and driving anywhere and it will not bounce...only those two certain bumps on the road...I also have steel front bumper and 10K winch on stock tires. no other mechanical or steering issues. so I called Rancho for suspected faulty front shocks, received new ones and installed them...with the same issue. I've lowered my tire pressure from 36 to 32 and 30. I'm thinking it may be the front springs with added weight from steel bumper and winch??? any inputs? thanks all. This weekend I am receiving my RockKrawler adjustable control arms.
@wayalife5 жыл бұрын
Bounce as in, you can feel them leave the ground? Lowering your psi to 30 is definitely what you should be at even if you didn't have a problem. What do you have your front shocks set to?
@antoniocanes22215 жыл бұрын
the bounce doesn't make the tire leave the ground. and it's not a very crazy bounce either. I'd say 5 out of 10. feels like maybe the springs might be touching...I'll check that in a few days. I had adjusted the front shocks from 2, then 4 and to 6 to eliminate. They are currently on 4. I appreciate your time! @@wayalife

I think for daily driving, they work out great and even better than a lot of high end monotube shocks. Where they don't perform as well is when driving hard and fast across the desert. In those conditions, they tend to experience shock fade.

I've always wondered why the cheaper shocks run with the shock body towards the ground, but when you look at more expensive shocks they are reversed. From a hydraulics world, you want the body to be high and the rod end to be low so the seal is always being lubricated... but that doesn't ever seem to be the case with cheaper shocks. It would make more sense if there was an apparent physical obstruction preventing it from being mounted one way or the other, but it always looks like they could be mounted either way. Any idea Eddie?

Hope to get your opinion. Don't know if my local jeep is trying to pull a fast one. I currently installed a Rancho RS9000 XL lift kit on my 2018 JLU SAHARA. I've experienced a little bit of play in the steering, after centering the steering wheel, it would wander/drift 2-4 degrees off center to left and right side. it would self correct but keeps doing it, and especially hitting a bump or even oversteer when turning from inside to outside lanes on a gradual turn on the highway...So, I took it to service at my local dealership where purchased for alignment...and here's the results..."Vehicle has steering wander and requires overcorrection to steer 1.20 Test drove to verify customer's complaint. Vehicle has some steering wander. Inspected steering and suspension on lift, found NO steering or suspension play. Put Vehicle on alignment rack, found vehicle is out of spec on Camber and Caster, both angles are non adjustable from the factory, and caster is adversely affected by suspension lift kit. cross caster is 2.0 degrees(excessive). No aftermarket caster cams or adjustable lower control arms available yet according to Eastern Truck Accessory. Please assist me in interpreting. Thank you once again. your videos rock!!!
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
Is it safe to assume you have not installed adjustable control arms or drop brackets? If not, your caster is way off and that will cause the flightiness you are experiencing. You NEED to get your caster back to about +4° or so to get it feeling like factory again. An alignment shop will NOT be able to do anything except take your money if you do not have adjustable components.

Wayalife - I’m waiting for the Diesel to come out, but while I’m waiting I’m looking at what parts I want to do. I plan to keep the stock bumper then toss a winch in it and add the AEV knock off grill guard from Maximus. I’m thinking about doing the mopar lift due to warranty work and getting alignments. But I like the EVO Long arm lift but have no idea how hard it would be to maintain it and the costs to involved for it. I like their rock sliders and the colored inserts on your video on the EVO as I plan to do a black jeep with red accents. The rear bumper looks like it needs a change as I want to put attachments on it like gas cans, high jack lift etc.. but haven’t seen one that works for the JL yet. I saw you removed yours. But one thing I did enjoy watching is your use of the rear hitch stinger to protect the back and the tire from hang ups. Can’t find that part anywhere which I think would sell like hot cakes. I also am looking at lights. Gonna go with two 7or8inch lights in the bumper between the grill guard and want to find a light that hooks on the wind shield but doesn’t prevent the windshield from folding down. Also side rock lights and reverse lights are something I’m interested in as well. Anyway, love your instructional videos, definitely gonna get your tire/wheel combo. On those wheels, do you suggest that I order the black or silver one as my intention is to have the wheel powder coated red with a black bead lock ring. Also like watching your trail videos too... very cool man. I’ll keep watching to see what you do next.
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
You can get the hitch stinger here: www.wayalife.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=PARTS-HITCH-STINGER How big of a tire are you hoping to run? That will determine what kind of lift you should run. Also, if you're going to powder coat your wheels, I would start off with bare aluminum.

Would you recommend these Rancho shocks over Monroe and Rough Country shocks? Currently looking for shocks for my 11’ JK Unlimited and I’m looking for ones that perform good on street (especially with many potholes) and can also hold its own on casual off-roading while having 32’ all terrain tires on no lift. This video has been helpful but some insight would be nice.

To be honest, Rancho is owned by Tennaco and they are a tier 1 manufacturer who makes Monroe. Rancho shocks are made in Long Beach, CA and they're made to be better than OE shocks. For the money, you really can't beat RS5000X shocks and the ride they offer is surprisingly nice for how affordable they are. If you want something better and just for a bit more, I'd look into their RS9000X shocks being that they're adjustable and you can set it to how you like. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to run these 5000's for what you're needing.

does that make your JL more lifted
@wayalife4 жыл бұрын
No. Only taller springs or spring spacers will give you more lift.

I’ve had a bad run with Teraflex SP2 2.1 shocks and I want a soft riding riding shock that won’t add harshness to on road small bumps. I’ve heard rancho are soft riding shocks? On your experience what are some of the softest shock options for JLU?
@wayalife4 жыл бұрын
To be fair, most of your ride comfort will come from your springs. Granted, pairing a stiff set of springs with monotube shocks isn't gonna help anything. Rancho's are hydro shocks and they will be soft and if you get their adjustable 9000s, you can set them however you want but there's only so much they can do with stiff springs.

When your upgraded the size of the tires, what did you use to calibrate the speedometer? I recently upgrade the size of my tires on my JKU and the speedometer is slightly off. Thanks

On our JL, I used a Tazer JL by Z Automotive. On a JK, you'll want to use something like an AEV ProCal or Superchips Flashcal.

I installed RANCHO on my silverado 2500HD but it's very soft. Is there anything i can do to make it little harder
@wayalife4 жыл бұрын
Hard to say without feeling what you're feeling for myself. It's entirely possible that it's your springs that are too soft and not your shock absorbers. Or, could be you need a higher end monotube shock.

Great video. I dont even need to drive it, You can see the difference! Im still on the fence between rancho's and bilstein but can't really beat the price of rancho. How do they ride on streets?
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
Ride quality is 100% subjective but to me, they ride great. I don't know if I've seen a set of Bilsteins made for a lifted JL yet.
@truckerrickakamanowar6 жыл бұрын
matty 232 yeah was thinking Bilstein myself for a more compliant smooth ride compared to stock Rubi shocks. Maybe I'll give these a look.

Wayalife your right at end of day it's very subjective.

Rhino Willy's agreed. I'm just trying to find that happy medium. I know its not going to ride like a Cadillac but It's nice to dream. I put a set of rudi takeoff's in my zj. Seems Stiffer then stock but I guess for stability that's what they wanted
@truckerrickakamanowar6 жыл бұрын
matty 232 yes a happy medium totally agree. I'm sure whatever we choose will be just fine or at least a step or two over the Rubi. Take care Matt and appreciate the quick reply. Sending a wave from Rhode Island.

I found I can just compress the shock with one hand and put the bolt in with my other hand.
@wayalife2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, on a shock like this, you can but on a high end monotube shock, good luck.

This may be a dumb question but because the new shocks are longer than the OEM shocks, will the jeep sit higher than it did before with OEM shocks?
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
No, the only thing that give you your ride height is your coils.

I just couldn't do it had to leave the red boot off! lol
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
LOL!! Typically, I do too. The red boots on the new RS5000X shocks are made out of a hard plastic and they come on them from the factory. They are more of a shield than anything.

rs5000x or fox
@wayalife5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I think it depends on what coils they'd be matched up with and how you intend to use your Jeep. If you do a lot of fast and hard driving across the desert, Fox will definitely last a lot longer. For daily driving around town, I think you'll actually find that RS5000X will provide a more comfortable ride. Fast in the desert and they'll leave you with shock fade for sure.

Rancho shocks are so butt ass ugly I don't know why people get them. I would have just waited until some quality fox or kings came out
@wayalife6 жыл бұрын
LOL!! Just because a shock doesn't look pretty doesn't mean that it won't work well and not everyone wants to spend upwards of $2k or more on a set of shocks especially when you're just riding on a "budget boost".

Ha i know. I'm sure they perform OK, a lot of people seem to like them

Question? Does the lower mount bolts for the rear shock have a particular direction? Woukd it be ok to put the bolt through facing inward?
@wayalife4 жыл бұрын
If you install them inward, they will get beat up by rocks and it will be extremely difficult to remove the nuts.

Can the Ranchos be used on a 2021 Sahara with stock wheels and tyres and no lift kit?
@wayalife3 жыл бұрын
Rancho makes shocks for stock applications. You just need to get the right size for your Sahara.
