Scott, thank you so much this was very helpful for me to repair my wife’s jeep. She has a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport and the dealers all want to go ahead and tell you that they have to change out the entire windshield and I knew darn well they had to be a simpler way to do it than paying over $300 for a rear windshield. yeah you would think... three years later and my THIRD tab fell off on my 2020 wrangler. Three years in a row with TWO brand new replacements of the entire back glass window at the dealership. They last for about 10 months and as soon as the cold hits, they fall off. At this point I might as well fix it myself once and for good with sottering it back on, because apparently Chrysler can't do sottering.

Great video! I repaired my 2017 Wrangler rear window defrost tab with the Permatex adhesive. This worked great for 6 months and now the tab has popped off again. I will be attempting a soldering repair following these steps.

Thanks! I just made this repair on my 2017. The only thing I did differently was to warm the glass with a heat gun first to avoid any type of thermal shock.

This seems to be a very common issue with the Wranglers. Mine needs a fix up job too, so thanks for this how-to! I guess the robot that sticks these on during assembly either needs an overhaul, or maybe a whole new set of instructions on how to do it right. 😁

Thanks very much for your video. Its 2023 and i have a jeep gladiator 2020 with extended warranty, the solder came off on my rear defroster and chrystler wont do it under warranty. They want to charge me over 900 for a new window and 2 hours labor. Im sure this will result in the same issue. Ill be taking your instructions to do the repair myself in the coming week or two, before winter comes. Ill post my result. Thanks again!

Dealer quoted me $1250 plus tax to replace the glass. One tab broken off. 2017 Unlimited Wrangler. I said, no thanks. I'll try this when it warms up a bit. Thanks.

Just so you know, bud, OL does not mean "point zero L"😃 . It means "over limit". IE the resistance is infinity or out of range if you are using the wrong range setting to give a correct measurement

One of my contacts is off on the rear glass, however I am not getting power to the rear. When I press the button the light should still come on correct? I have checked the fuse and relay. The knob works as far changing from vent to defrost etc, but the light for the rear defroster is not coming on.

The driver's side is the positive and the passenger side is the negative on the window/wires? Both are not 12v?

The nub is not removable on mine. I folded back the rubber shroud and after a few ah F this and ah F that.... I got it to stay.

I am doing as you go along, however when I touch the solder iron to what appears to be the copper part(where it makes the connection) the solder is not sticking to it. Any ideas?

Glass is too cold. You can try a heat gun (ON LOW!) or as a last resort you can remove the entire window lay it on the carpet or a mat and solder it inside.

Yes. I took it apart to explain to people what the “Nub” is, which actually the part being soldered to the window / connector. It was visualization of what I was talking about during the process…and showing how it works & the pieces involved.
