I always owned Jeep's until 2012. I bought a 2010 Wrangler that had the notorious oil burner 3.8 V-6. Quart of oil every couple weeks. They did all the studies on it and corporate decided it was normal ! Dealer disagreed and did all they could to get me out of it. Due to that I purchased a new 2012 Wrangler Unlimited. I guess their were some cylinder bore issues with the 3.8 that caused this oil consumption ? The 2012 had the new 3.6 engine which was to save the brand. Never had a engine issue, however, it had electrical Gremlins. Blew up radios with no warning. 1st one just figured was defective. 3rd one was wondering if something was causing it. Instrument cluster lights flashed and gauges went crazy occasionally. They removed the dash and searched harness end to end with no alleged findings. Didn't help so they changed the BCM module. After that power door locks clicked locked/unlocked back & forth when they felt like it ? After 4th radio change traded it on a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. No problems with it in 6 years.

Came across your videos. Thank you! Growing up we had a 42 Willys , Uncle had a Commando. I also had an old left hand postal Jeep in 1982 while in college. I am from North Carolina and now living in Ontario Canada. Looking at a Economical Jeep to have up at the Cottage to drive on Forestry and back roads up North. Around the 5-7 thousand ranged. Any suggestion on a model to where I should set my sights on? Always appreciate guidance in starting my search? Thank you

Great video Doug I’ve looked into buying a jeep like a wrangler type but my biggest problem is I’m 6’6” and it is very uncomfortable for me to drive as a daily driver or even just as a fun toy, so I stayed with the RAM (if the seat would only go back another 4 inches or something it would be feasible but being as tall as I am it stuffs me up against the steering wheel with my knees) this last purchase was a tossup between a new Jeep or a new ram but you can’t beat the comfort for a tall person in a RAM and I wound up needing the towing capacity and bed space of a pick ‘em up anyway.

I never thought id like the Jeep Liberty, but I got one when I needed a vehicle to throw my wheelchair in the back so I could hobble up to the drivers seat, and now I'm on my 3rd one. I owned a n 02, an 05 and now an 08. The first year of each gen. Although the 02 was what I felt to be the most Jeep like, this 08 has some nice options. The 4x seems to be better and my sky roof top is nice and almost makes me feel like I'm in a reel Jeep. as soon as I have the $ I'll own another CJ7 it's just my favorite and if like to own another XJ, but the ZJ and J10 are 2 that if like to own some day. My dad's 57 Willys started me off on the love for Jeep and although I love them, I just love the CJ7 more.

I keep upgrading/fixing my ZJ, because it does the work I need it to do at an affordable price. I just put in a new A/C from Rock Auto, and totally replaced the sound system with a new Pioneer set. Even with a decent job, I cant put down the bucks for a new Jeep. I use mine once or twice a week to haul my Kayak and go fishing. I recently learned something about body work and fixed my pealing clear coat. The prices for most Jeeps are not inline with what is happening in our current economy. They need to think for some new ways to make their vehicles affordable.

The Jeep name did not come from the cartoon character although that may have encouraged it. The name Jeep came from the common name for those vehicles being called General Purpose vehicles. Otherwise know as the GP trucks. People noticed that GP for should could be shorter just by pronouncing the letters which of course sounded like “Jeep.” Later one of the company’s actually trade marked the name Jeep.

My brother an sister-in-law own a first year Unlimited that as of August 2019 had 475,000 miles on the original engine and drive train. Other than a slight fading of the red paint job the Jeep looks almost new and continues to serve them well....So much so in fact that when I offered to buy it from them last year my brother flatly stated that as much as he loved me selling that Jeep, even to me, would probably lead to a divorce as Martha has ZERO interest in trading or selling "her Jeep" even if she was offered a brand new one of any trim level available.

I have to disagree with you on the 90s being the best ERA. Just because of how impressive the JK is. The TJ was not just a revamp of a YJ it was a huge game changer with a 5 link suspension and 4 coil springs. The jk just took that to a better level.

Yep, good ole daimler. Laying off many Chrysler workers, like my father back in the early 2000s. What happened is that Chrysler would spend hundreds of millions and even billions on factory like New Castle, Indiana parts plant, Indy forge had a couple billion invested in it. Then there are others in missing for sure. But Chrysler put all this money in their own plants when before Daimler ran with Chrysler's money they razed those factories that Chrysler just heavily invested in. By razing I mean they tore them done to just concrete in the dirt. Also, during the bankruptcy, Chrysler technically died. The US government had to have Chrysler create a new company to receive the bailout. So old Chrysler was renamed Old CarCo LLC I think. Chrysler Corp as we know liquidated with 6 or 7 factories. Then obviously you have their successor Chrysler group LLC. Also, I don't see the Chrysler brand continuing on.

nowr2run I love the uni body, it may not be super strong but it made the Jeep XJ super light. Mine only weighs 2950 lbs, and even though the Cherokee is a brick, it was capable of getting decent mileage which is comparable to today’s trucks and better than some of the new jeeps as well. I think the Uni body was a great idea, it made it light which made it more durable and it is fairly sporty for that reason.

I bought a 2000 4.0 Sport and I still have it today. The TJ is the last Jeep I will own. The new ones are way too plush, too expensive, too electronic. I think they've let the Jeep brand get far away from what it should be.

Still kind of pisses me off that they did away with the "every man's" Jeeps. I own a 97TJ (DD at 260k miles) and have swapped the engine (after 240k miles), rebuilt the tranny (230k miles), new suspension and frame repair (225k miles) and I'll drive it until I can't drive anymore. Yeah, I'd like to have bought a new Wrangler, but they're not something that the everyday guy can afford anymore and they're packed full of gee-whiz stuff. I wish, along with the Wranglers people with lots of money can afford, that they'd go back and build a no frills Wrangler for cheap that could be modded up for fun or driven as is. I could go on a rant about pick up trucks in general too since you used to be able to buy a no frills truck without having to take out a mortgage...but that's for later. ;)

Jeep were called GPV at beginning of WW2, then Jeep from a puppy name that Popeye the sailor man had in those 1940 cartoons. The puppy called Jeep was always running around him, and even climbing rocks and tree trunks on ground. Easy to transfer the name Jeep of that puppy to the army GPV's.
