Since nobody has mentioned it yet: This was the gig at the 2009 R&R Hall of Fame ceremony, where Jeff Beck was inducted (as a solo artist, he had been there as a member of the Yardbirds a few years earlier) by Jimmy Page. I am glad that all this late recognition and well-deserved celebration have helped Jeff forgive and forget past offenses and slights, and in particular smooth things over with Jimmy Page.

Page is Jeff's best friend. What riff??? The beef wasn't Beck and Page...it was Eric Clapton jealously of Beck. Page NEVER tries to outdo his friends on stage. He's humble. When your at this level... Page Beck and Frank Zappa ..IMO ...have the creative genius market all locked up. Page is an inovator a mad scientist. So is Jeff. Very few can create the sounds Jeff does on his Stratocaster.

Beck's Bolero is a variation on a piece of classical music entitled "Bolero" by the composer Maurice Ravel which premiered in 1928. As a musician you may wish to give it a listen if you can get around to it. Jeff's version is the result of his and Jimmy Page's collaboration for the former's first solo album and is spectacular, as you can hear. I have no idea whether you know this, but Page joined, then replaced Beck in the band "The Yardbirds" before Jeff went solo and Page later formed Led Zeppelin. There's footage of them playing together as Yardbirds in the film "Blow Up" from 1967 you might enjoy, as well.

The Yardbirds with Jeff in 1965 for the BBC played Smokestack Lighting. In the middle "rave-up" section they play a Bolero. which is where most likely Jeff got the original idea from. Most releases of the BBC sessions, edit this part out. I have an unedited version of it.

The first time I saw Tal, I thought she looked like the young noble girl on the Blind Faith album. She's a great musician. She's also played with Herbie Hancock. I could be wrong, but I think Jimmy Page wrote Beck's Bolero. The Immigration Song is a Led Zeppelin song. Jeff Beck is one of the greatest guitarists on the planet. And to have Beck and Page on the same stage, holy sh*t.

Happenings Ten Years Time Ago by The Yardbirds is the combination of these 2 in the same band. Jimmy wrote Beck’s Bolero. On the Truth album it’s the only song featuring what was to be The New Yardbirds. Rod Stewart on vocal. But since the only tune they did was an instrumental nobody ever heard that imaginary band. Jeff on guitar,Jimmy on Fender 12 string guitar, John Paul Jones on bass and Keith Moon on drums. Keith said The New Yardbirds would go over like a Lead Balloon and that morphed into Led Zeppelin but Keith didn’t want to quit The Who and Jimmy and John found John Bonham and got Band Of Joy singer,Robert Plant . So Jeff continued on as Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart,Ron Wood and Mickie Waller.

Beck's Bolero was the B side of the Hi Ho Silver Lining single (1967) which Jeff hated playing. It was only released because his record company at the time wanted a hit single to capitalise on the name he made for himself in the Yardbirds. He was in the process of putting together the Jeff Beck Group at the time and all of his subsequent singles B sides featured Rod Stewart on vocals.

Jimmy page and Jeff Beck originally did Becks Bolero with Keith Moon on the drums and a bass player they knew John Paul Jones ( this was pre Led Zeppelin ) . They had wanted John Entwistle from the Who to play bass but he declined. Both Moon and Entwistle were going through a bit of a troubled time in the Who and the proposal was that they they should form a group . Entwistle is meant to have said " that will go down like a lead balloon " , well the rest is a bit of history .

Jimmy Page is Jeff's best friend since childhood. Page is s humble. He will never try to out do his friends. Unlike Eric Clapton. ..Page is an unequalled guitarist ...he lets Jeff shine. The drummer is Vinny Coliutta from Frank Zappas band..Joe's Garage....70s and 80s. To play with Zappa you have to be BRILLIANT...KNOW HOW TO READ AND WRITE MUSIC. VINNY IS A TRUE LEGEND. These two guys come from the Yardbirds...one of Rock n Rolls hippest and bluesiest rock bands in the 60s. Eric Clapton Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page all began with the Yardbirds. 65'. . Page and Bass master John Paul Jones were both Session musicians in the early to mid 60s ...that's why both Page and John Paul Jones are far more accomplished than just about any of their peers. Jeff learned his style after Paul Butterfield was doing it in the 60s. Very hard to do. You combine volume and Tone controls with the Whammy bar manipulation as you play each string Focus must be incredible that's why not many can pull it off

Jeff and Jimmie were in the Yardbirds (they were very succesful), Jeff replaced Eric Clapton in the band, Jimmie joined near the end. Jimmie owns the Yadbirds name and Led Zeppelin was originally going to be called the New Yardbirds, which is why Jimmie bought the rights to the name. He realized though that they didn't sound like any one else and needed a different name, thus Led Zeppplin was born.

Fun fact, they decided to play Immigrant Song ten minutes before going live. Tal, the bassist, suggested to Jeff they throw it in there since Jimmy Page was going to be joining them on stage. So yeah, from what I know, that was an impromptu jam thrown in the middle of Beck's Bolero. But when you have Vinnie on drums and Tal on bass, you can do that. Check out Jeff, Tal and Vinnie (plus Tony) doing "Big Block" at the Crossroads festival. And listen to Jeff and Rod doing "Shapes of Things" (which came out months before Led Zeppelin did).
