The clarity of both Grace’s and Mickey’s voices is astounding. The fact that these two fronted a band at the same time is mind-blowing. Incredible vocalists.

Only Grace Slick and Ann Wilson could shred their voices, riding the perfect line of emotion and harsh, while under perfect control. And back in the day, Only the Starship and Fleetwood Mac, had male/female leads that created their sound. I remember Grace Slick saying in an interview, concerning her vocals, "I wish I had that soft airy ,pretty voice, that many of the other girls had. But I don't. My voice come alive when I'm going over a hundred miles an hour with my hair on fire". Yeah, that sums it up!

@@dowens3781 I'm an audiophile. I love music. I played guitar, acoustic and electric. And I have an odd range of music, over 10k songs, from so many genre's. But I'm also a 70"s guy. And I love classic rock. My favorite vocalist of all time? Well,it's Linda Ronstadt. And she could rock out with the best of them if she wanted to. Picture this. I'm at a classic concert,at Anaheim Stadium,Orange county ca. in 1975. Joe walsh opens up,and was great! This was before he joined the Eagles. Jackson Browne was next. His wife had committed suicide not long before this. His little boy came on stage when he was singing. He turned and looked down. And stopped singing. And then,he started to cry. Wow. The crowd went silent. Girls started crying around me. he gathered himself, and apologized. The emotion in his songs? You can only imagine! Then the Eagles came and performed. I couldn't believe how good their vocals and harmonies were. They were perfect. like their albums perfect! I had a feeling I was watching history being made. Linda Ronstadt headlined this concert. And if my feelings now were already overwhelmed, hearing Linda sing, like she does, took me into ecstacy. Stone cold sober, and I was about as high as you could get for a high schooler. Now It was towards the end of her set,I was 25-30 ft from the stage, and she powered up and screamed. And I heard her voice sail past the mic and montitors! I turned to my girlfriend and yelled, did you hear that? She said, yeah. I said how can someone so small have such a powerful voice like that? it was unbelievable. Now the sad truth is,I never got to see the Starship back then. What a regret. But I have many great memories of other classic rock performances that I went to. And now I'm the old guy I thought I'd never be. Reminiscing and telling stories of the good old days.

This song is what caught my interest in this group because I was going through many changes in my life then and no matter how I tried things always change ! And Slicks voice is amazing !

I can't believe that its been 40 years. Well maybe just because this is timelessness embodied. And I'm old but young at heart.

Electrifying!! I loved this song the moment I heard back in the early '80s, but it got so little airplay I only caught it a handful of times. Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas, what a powerful duo. Two of the best voices in rock and roll history. Thanks KZbin!

I've been listening to these starship albums from late 70's to early 80's straight through for the first time in years - if ever. "freedom at point zero", modern times" and "winds of change" are really good albums.

In the 1980s I first saw this on MTV. Checking out the hot lead guitarist, I wondered Who is That?! Props to the band for recruiting a kid from high school. He certainly returned the favor, remaining with them till they disbanded. At 12, I understand he and his father’s car was struck head on by a drunk driver, and Craig woke up in hospital with broken arms, leg, ankles. It was his strong will and good advice from dad that had him back to playing guitar with casts on both hands, barely able to eke out a single chord. Music heals. Never allow schools to cut music and the arts from their budgets.

I didn’t know about that horrible accident, but I remember Casey Kasem telling the story of the band hiring Craig when he was in high school! I just found out a few days ago that Craig went on to make jazz and new age music. I look forward to hearing it!
