I think it's right for Freddie to be devil's advocate in this interview, but it must be said, the alternatives he offered to Sachs' thesis stretched credibility to much greater extent than Sachs' case. The entire response of the political and media class to this incident - to shove it rather briskly under the carpet - strongly implies that, in Leonard Cohen's words, everybody knows.

@josetanago
@josetanago Жыл бұрын
Not just Freddie. It is happening more and more. And if there are massive media means to build certain narrative, then more people buy the lies, and fight against anyone or anything making them reflect, and just consider maybe they have been fooled. Excuse me to take this example but that same statement it is for me one of the explanations about what happened in 2020 and 2021 with the most argued single issue ever seen in media history (pandemic). From the huge first media attention then the fear most people grow, it was set already a vicious cycle of enlarging the fear, which fueled the fire for more media attention and billions of media articles, tvs,... to fuel even more fear, government fearing if they do not take the most harsh measures will be seen as negligent, same from journalists who did not fight against skeptic people who spread doubts about the measures, would be not doing the duty to defend the society,... so the larger the tide became, the more difficult was to step aside and think we might have been fooled, or just overreacting,...

“Relying on Russia might not be good politics”. I agree with Sachs, and disagree with the interviewer, about the fanciful idea that Germany should have diversified from Russian energy. That's like saying we should all diversify from the sun's energy. It's not even academic speculation that alternative energy source are multiple times more expensive than Russian energy. We are seeing in real time the consequences of Europe trying to diversify from Russian gas. Russia is the "sun" that gives life and prosperity to Europe. People in Europe may be making it through this winter without freezing to death. That's for now. But even now, businesses are dying in droves. Very few businesses can survive such increase in costs. The huge problem we have today is that US foreign, economic and trade policies have been hijacked by the geopolitical establishment, who are "economic illiterates" (and that's the term of Jeffery Sachs). These are the people who would tell you to diversify from the sun.

@@jeffreychongsathien Seymour Hersh (born in Chicago to Lithuanian Jews, 1937,] who emigrated to the USA), is Samuel Hirsch, from the special kind of the Western Leftists, Jewish Reddish activists on the payroll of the FSB/KGB. In fact, gas pipelines were damaged by Gazprom on Putin's orders with an explosion from the inside - the easiest and most optimal way to destroy gas pipes. The charge is easily introduced into the pipes through the mechanism of cleaning pigs, which are periodically carried out in the pipes. The Swedes conducted their investigation of the pipeline immediately after the accidents, established their cause and refused Russia's demand to report the results of the investigation. The results of these investigations will certainly be presented to the imminent International Tribunal on the crimes of Russia (the explosion of the Malaysian Boeing, the invasion and atrocities of Russia in Ukraine, as well as the explosion of the Nord Stream 1-2 pipelines). The purpose of such a lawsuit in the Tribunal will be to demand that Russia pay a huge penalty for violating agreements on gas supplies to Europe. In fact, Russia is the only obvious interest in damaging the pipeline. In the years leading up to this heist, Putin regularly arranged shutdowns or reductions in gas supplies, usually during critical winter cold periods due to mysterious pipeline "failures". In the fall of 2022, before the heinous invasion of Ukraine, Putin’s next “multi-move” began to completely close the supply of Russian gas to Europe, and “hang” the accident on the United States and the hated West as if by an “unprovable” sabotage on the high seas. The goal of the multi-move is to arrange a massive winter cold spell for European countries and their subordination to Moscow's political and economic dictates. This clearly terrorist plan of Putin suffered a grandiose fiasco, comparable only to the fantastic failure of the military invasion of Ukraine.

Wow! Freddy dropped the ball big time in this interview. Imagine if a gang was charged with an attack on a business it had been threatening for years. The trial showed video of the gang leader and one of the underbosses promising to carry out the attack after a triggering event that then occurs. Allied gang member (Liz Truss) sends a text just after the explosion saying, "It's done!" to the gang leader. Members of the gang are then seen on video celebrating the attack and bragging how it provided a great opportunity for the gang. Then there's an anonymous tip explaining how they did it. Then imagine how easy it would be to get a conviction in court with all that evidence. Yet Freddy, with breathtaking naivety, says Hersh is not totally convincing and some other hypothetical criminal might have done it but he can't say who or even provide a plausible motive. That is the level of gullible denialism that Freddy just displayed to a clearly dumbfounded Jeffrey Sachs! For a minute Sachs was rendered speechless by the stupidity of Sayers' ludicrous alternative explanations.
@cyancapsulesgone

The case for the prosecution is even stronger than that. Imagine that the attack was carried out in an extremely technical manner and the defendant gang has members who are among the extremely few people on Earth who possess the technical expertise to carry out the attack in the manner it was carried out. Furthermore--and Sachs dropped the ball on this one issue--imagine that a gang that is allied with the defendant gang was under serious pressure from its own members to make peace with the gang that was attacked, and it looked like the allied gang's leadership--to save tgeir own jobs--was getting ready to accept this peace deal. Imagine that the allied gang was facing a potential catastrophe, and the attacked gang was offering to bail out the allied gang and prevent this catastrophe--but only if the allied gang would end its alliance with the defendant gang. Imagine if the attack would destroy the attacked gang's ability to bail out the allied gang and prevent the latter's catastrophe, and thus the attack would destroy the allied gang's incentive to end its alliance with the defendant gang. But to a true believer like UnHerd's host sitting on the jury, "It's all circumstantial evidence. We can't really know what happened. Maybe the attacked gang attacked itself. Maybe someone unbeknownst to us all really did it. (Maybe that was the same guy who framed O.J.) That sounds more plausible than the defendant being guilty. After all, I've been told my entire life (by the defendant and his dependents) how nice the defendant is. I just can't believe the defendant would do this. I vote not guity." It's ridiculous.

@@Sokrabiades you were clearly not paying attention to Freddie's mannerisms throughout the interview, and especially to his closing commentary. Playing Devil's advocate is fine and necessary, as is pointing out the problem with dependence on one anonymous source for Hersh's story.. but his closing commentary revealed his true feelings. Like most Europeans and Westerners, he genuinely believes the US to be incapable of being a malevolent actor and bully on international affairs, and that the US genuinely, truly means well and has "noble intentions" in everything it does. This kind of belief is understandable for Europeans and Westerners because the post WWII pax-Americana world-order has been largely beneficial for Europeans and Westerners. But not so much for Latin America, Africa, South East Asia and the Middle East. For them, the US has been a mass-mur dering, government-overthrowing, covert-ops engaging lawless, thuggish white-supremecist malevolent gangster on the world stage. Only a smug, European "intellectual" elite like Freddy could be that purposely clueless to not understand that.

@peayen5008 The evil ruzzian and Chinese colonial empires will fall first. The US can provide almost everything it needs for itself within its own borders - food, tech, raw materials, etc. It also has huge trading partners in Mexico and Canada. The US also has a reasonably young population, a vibrant educational and tech sector, and, increasingly, it is looking inward and reestablishing local manufacturing. It's bringing the jobs back home. The US is less and less reliant on the rest of the world. It is also becoming less inclined to intervene in international affairs. After ruzzia is kicked out of Ukraine, the US will more than likely leave the rest of the world to figure out its own shit. The rest of the world will have to adapt to the absence of The World's Policeman. It will be mayhem. It's a case of "careful what you wish for, because you might just get it."
