Fantastic content Jonathan. A scathing critique of the current situation regarding Putin and his mini-me, Trump. Finally , we're hearing someone linking Hamas, Iran and terrorism, with Putin's hybrid war against the West. These are cynical and divisive policies by a tyrant who has been enabled by the elites of many nations to act out his bitter resentment at the failure of the Soviet system. We have to face him off at this crucial point in history. I just hope that the American nation can survive the trauma of the upcoming election, whatever the result.

I’m tired of people talking about the unemployment rate being under 4%. If you look at Ludwig’s TRU rate (True Rate of Unemployment) which is 24%, the economic picture for many Americans is much more dire than the headline rate suggests. Remember, this is a country that struggles with a childhood poverty rate of 14%… this translates into 14 million kids going hungry in the US annually. In many ways we are a very spoiled country but the headline rate of unemployment does not paint an accurate picture of the state of things and how people feel about their prospects regardless if this is a land of opportunity.

Or a size of a modern russian state police? - half people are devastated and struggling to feed their kids often, the other half is feeding from military complex... no revolution without outside help, just like with any revolution in any country. @davidrusen993828 күн бұрын
Completely agree with your point. However, it’s nothing new. The failure of the Russian people to turn on the monster running their nation has been widely discussed since even before 2022. Those poor people are still used to being treated as serfs owned by the czar. The professor even said something like “people don’t want to know the truth.“. The truth makes those poor people look, weak, ignorant, foolish, and cowardly. No wonder they avoid the truth. And that all comes down to the people of Russia have absolutely no arms. No right to bear arms. An extremely serious crime in Russia to have firearms. Russia has no second amendment. In fact, in Russia, you easily see why there needs to be a second amendment in any nation. How are the unarmed people of Russia supposed to unseat the elites and overwhelm the army? Hopeless when the citizenry cannot bear arms.

Excellent discussion & hopefully people outside US will listen to Sonnenfeld's description of Trump and the danger he represents. I don't know if that's been fully taken in. It is not an exaggeration to say Trump is a fascist and beholden to Putin. In terms of undermining EU-US connections, NATO, support for Ukraine, etc., Trump is Putin's greatest asset.
@marijo195129 күн бұрын
Given that the election is in less then 2 weeks, I think it's more important at this point that people inside the US are aware of the true facts about Trump! It's nerve-racking to have to look on from outside (in my case from the UK), fully aware of the danger that's threatening the world, and not be able to influence the outcome of the election. And I think most of us non-Americans are completely perplexed that there are still US citizens who are prepared to vote for Trump.

But the problem is that we have a portion of the population who is non reasoning led by a portion of the population who only cares about having low taxes. Neither of these groups is open to reason nor do they care about reality. If you're living in an ignorance based selfishness based wonderland of fear and self-loathing. And this is the real problem. For the us to move forward we have got to do something about these two groups and it has to be decisive and final.
@johnthornton207529 күн бұрын
I appreciate the quality of discussion in this posting. However, I sense important aspects of the situation are omitted: 1. Ukraine's allies are continuing to limit their contributions to the war effort. USA limits the range of missiles Ukraine is receiving, and does not allow Ukraine to respond in kind to the long range weaponry used by Russia. Even after 2.5 years of war, a sizeable fraction of NATO members are not meeting the 2% minimum defence spending target. Meanwhile Ukraine is pleading for more support as their military manpower is eroding. The limitations are lengthening the war, and costing Ukrainian lives, while it is Ukrainians who are struggling to remain an independent nation and are the ones actively defending democracy. 2. Who are suffering more? Is it civilians living in St. Petersburg - Moscow - Rostov? or Russian soldiers? I would say the soldiers who are forced into ill planned, under equipped, meat wave attacks. And therefore a mutiny in the Army is more likely than a broad revolt by Russian citizens who are quite passive and enduring. 3. What are the prospects for more Russia - DPRK cooperation? I would say this arrangement is a slam dunk. DPRK needs military technology (satellites, nuclear submarines, etc.), food, and gold. Russia needs more soldiers, artillery and ammo. The trade is sure to occur. So there is a high probability of escalation and lengthening of the war even without nuclear weapons.

DPRK cannot supply enough people, parts or troops to last through 2025, especially since China is unhappy with their behaviour. I suspect China is allowing it since letting Russia bleed out lets them reclaim their own lost territories

Interesting that the attack on Israel by Hamas was Oct. 7, Putin's Birthday. And the BRICS summit in Kazan was Oct 24, UN Day. Not a coincidence. Aside: seeing Sec Gen. Guterres there at the BRICS summit hugging and kissing the Russians, very disturbing when Guterres did not attend the Peace Summit in Switzerland.

Guterres’ personal history tells a lot, he’s also a “socialist” and advocate for global south growth which is dominated by russia and China. He’s a compromised figure with conflicts of interest, should resign mmediately.

That's exactly the sort of symbolism and practices you actually see in many different int'l criminal organizations. These are (not so) hidden messages that let "who needs to know", who's really running the show (aka "who's the top dog").

October 7 was also a major Jewish holiday, which was probably more of a motive.

Putin has shown a focus on particular dates and anniversaries before. This is also not uncommon with your vindictive narcissist. Revenge often comes on the day they felt slighted.

I studied a bit of russia politics in the early 1980s. We laughed then at how the russian people would hear a local but ridiculous and fearful story, and believe and spread it. We thought them so simple and gullible...the irony. Trump and co are so pushing us backwards.

Thank you. The first person who aknowledges that the October 7th Hamas pogrome was a Russian designed, ordered and supervised operation.

We'd all like to join in a group hug and mess up the mics for a minute to celebrate the clarity you both have achieved for us. xx
