Create harmony in Cubase with Vari-Audio

You are incredibly detailed, go at a reasonably slower pace for those of us learning for the first time, and your style is unmatched. I have been learning an incredible amount of information from your videos and I just want to say thank you so much for patience, time, and your teaching skills. This was AMAZING!! Works great instead of having the vocalist do this.....especially in small spots like a section of a chorus/bridge that needs a little extra. Harmonies tend to scare some vocalist, or can fatigue them.....this was much needed. You truly are a great teacher. Thank you again. ;)

Hai brother.... great tutorial.. I am Using cubase 10.5.., From the last few days while using the vari audio function for mannual pitch correction, the problem is that while moving the vocal notes up and down... no pitching sound (Vocal moving funny sound) hearing....Plse help me 😭

Thanks! In every other case I just use various-audio to "write" the harmony parts, then get the singer to actually sing them! Great for when you have a singer that doesn't know how to do harmonies naturally!

Hi Jef, thanks for this tip and tutorial.. I have found that occasionally, when analyzing audio in VARI-AUDIO (I have Cubase 5) some of the vocal notes sung do not show up in VARI-AUDIO, in order to be able to move them.. Any idea why this is or how to make them visible when they are (rarely) not? P.S. wouldn't it be a great addition, if the notes diatonic to the key being used, would show up coloured/highlighted on the left hand side keyboard! :)

Thanks David! I agree on the last comment... the unprocessed stuff is usually unpitched vocalizations like s k t ch sh etc... if it goes wonky I usually select that area and choose reset all pitch changes

I think I got it! I noticed this at my school! Go to preferences-Editing-audio- then choose "Create new version" next to "on processing shared clips. Let me know if that works!

Nevertheless My bad English, please try to answer me... In Melodyne when I press the selected audio for tuning it, it will directly autoplay so I can hear it right away, but in Variaudio I have to make the changes and then go back to play it and make further correction. Long story short, is there any possibility to hear the audio directly when I press it with my mouse? Many thanks. Cubase faithful user

Not in front of my computer, but there should be a speaker icon in the top left corner in the editor, turn that on for a preview as you drag up and down.

Also Could be helpful to know that if you want you can press control+a to select all the notes so you can move them similtaneusly instead than one by one.

If you do not hear the audio parts that you are editing in VariAudio: Go to "Studio" ( on top of the screen ) \ Audio \ Connections \ "Control Room" En turn control room off! If you still do not hear the audio parts that you are editing : Turn the white speaker symbol ON

Hi Jef, when I pitch the duplicate voice up, it changes the original voice as well. I used to do the same process for harmonies but now the original voice pitches up for some reason. How can I solve this issue?

You can make the copy a unique version, this Way it is not affected

Yes, it's exactly the same for both programs. It's called Cubase in the title because a lot more people use Cubase! I've since bought Cubase, so now my videos are actually in Cubase.

Relying on the automated harmonizer in Cubase especially Cubase 12 professional just doesn’t do the job especially when the melody has half steps and substituted chords you have to be extremely careful Nailing the harmonies This is why I choose to learn my harmonies and perform in life and instead of relying on automation. If you’re relying on thirds six and even active’s Cubase fine to use Otherwise stick with human harmonies
