Vasquez is such a memorable character for me because she reminds me of my late aunt/Mom. She was the real deal (US Army Master/First Sergeant who deployed to the Gulf War and was a Drill Sergeant) and she taught me everything about what a good leader was simply by existing and assuming the role of my brother and I's second Mom when my folks had to work a lot to keep a roof over our heads.

James Cameron liked hiring her for character roles in his movies. He liked her in aliens so much that he hired her for both terminator 2 and Titanic as the immigrant mom in steerage. I almost wonder if her career died down because after Titanic, Cameron only made one more movie in 18 years time.

Did no one notice that Vasquez and Drake were a couple? Like, I know through the lens of 2018 one could easily argue that it's too ambiguous to say for certain, but taken in the light of the common cinematic language of 1986, Vasquez and Drake were definitely meant to read as being involved.

The Colonial Marines Manual states that the Smart Gun tracks it's targets using it's motorized (steadycam) mount linked to the eyepiece you see Vasquez and Drake using; so all the marines have to do is get it close and the gun will bulls-eye the target. Marines didn't like how accurate it was because it always hit center of mass and left one large hole through the target when they wanted to "hose it down". Basically it's as if soldiers were given real life aim-bots.
@christophersmith8848
@christophersmith8848 4 жыл бұрын
In AVP Extinction, they also say that was the old smartgun model, but it was taken out of production due to user fatigue being a major issue, and the new one just turns the bullets in midair to hit multiple targets.

To see just how badass her character was, you really only need to look at the other smartgun operator, drake. He kicked just as much alien ass as her, and was nearly as awesome. Right up until the point where was to busy killing stuff to get into the APC, leading to him getting covered in alien acid and proceeding to die. The only person capable of competing with vasquez in sheer ass kicking prowess was killed because he was to busy kicking ass. If vasquez can beat that level is ass kicking, then you know she's the most badass person in the goddamn movie.

It wasn't a fix to the entire game lol, that games was heavily flawed in so many levels, that fix was so famous because it was a bug in the A.I path-finding since launch and never was fixed, the A.I and game overall still suck but obviously an A.I without path-finding is almost unplayable so that bug fix made it significantly better and more challenging. The reason why people talk so much about this fix is because a random guy just fixed a bug that completely screwed over the A.I and the devs never bothered to improve, simply just by fixing a typo. Yup, turns out the problem was a typo in the code. This just highlights even further the incompetence of the people that made the game.

I used to play for several-hour games and use one or two of them to guard my doors and defend against invaders, just to make them molt to absurd levels. I even remember designating a chamber for incapacitated humans specifically so I didn't accidentally make a warrior, same with animals for runners.

2:17 Vasquez wasn't the only marine named after the actor playing them; all of the marines in Aliens shared first names with the actors who portrayed them... except for Cpl. Hicks. Originally, Hicks was to be played by James Remar (as such the locker displays "Cpl. J. Hicks") but due to some dumbfuckery on Remar's part involving drug abuse on set, he was fast told to fuck off by James Cameron and promptly replaced by Michael Biehn (mostly due to Cameron's previous experience from working with him on The Terminator). Quite why Hicks was then renamed to Dwayne rather than Michael could be anyone's guess, but there you go! (As a side, and because of Remar being fired, Biehn was also the only actor playing a marine who *didn't* go through two weeks of boot camp to get in character, nor did he get to personalise and draw his own shit over his armour, since Remar had already done that.)

There is some canon background for the characters, Vasquez and drake have been together since they were teenagers, but not romantically. They ran in street gangs together, until they both got into a jam where their choice was go to prison or join the marines. Where they continued to be kinda troublesome, drake moreso than vasquez. It was only his proficiency for combat, and vasquez keeping him reined in as much as she could, that kept him from getting court-martialed.

That fun discussion of the molecular sharp blades. There was talk of chained graphene being able to be strung into a string only a few atoms across but strong enough to be used as a blade. The theory goes that strung like a bow it could be shoved into targets. Something similar used in Johnny Mnemonic movie. However it’s said that a string that thin may not cut human tissue because the tissue would heal behind it as it passed through only severing a single cell as it passes. Weird.

‘is this gonna be a stand up fight sir or just another bug hunt?’ In a single line he tells us that Colonial Marines often deploy to fight or destroy lower intelligence creatures. It seems to hint that we have found life elsewhere but none or at least very little that has been intelligent. The military seems to be functioning as mainly exterminators. Almost Starship Troopers like. Amazing writing.

What would make the most terrifying alien? A vampire squid. More specifically, Tusoteuthis from the game Ark: Survival Evovled. That's all kinds of nope. For the sake of clarification, this creature is a marriage of a giant squid and a vampire squid. It's roughly 30 feet long altogether and primarily lives in deeper water. Rathed than suction cups, each tenticle is riddled with large spines coated in a paralytic venom/poison that can also render you unconscious. The longest of its tentacles have much larger, barbed hook like spines at the ends likely about 2-3 feet long coming out of the tips and are used to grab ahold of prey and drag it towards its large beak meant for crushing hard shells. It moves like a bullet through water, though I couldn't give you the exact speed. If it needs to escape it can produce an ink cloud of need be, but you'll likely be the one running. If all that weren't bad enough, even though it primarily eats black pearls the creature regenerates significant amounts of health by eating live prey. In game this functions like a life leech ability, but allows it to effectively be immortal in some situations.

It was originally going to be standard RTS for the Aliens, the Marines would be smaller groups where each unit could be leveled up and equipped with custom load-outs and the Preds were solo FPS style that were super OP and could enter multiplayer maps unannounced. ~25 multiplayer maps were completed and then scrapped unfortunately when multiplayer was dropped.

So Karl explains that the predalien molts when it kills things. So does he know in AvP extinction you can use a predalien to attack a enemy xeno hive node and have a invincible predalien because the hive node regenerates its HP.

We have radioactive bullets today made of depleted uranium (though theer radiation output is pretty irrelivent its used cause uranium is extremely strong and when it splinters it always splinters into a sharp point)

On the subject of peculiar things actors have done after they've stepped away from that career... Y'know the dreadlocked albino twins in the matrix reloaded? Well they've opened a jewellery shop where they make everything from scratch in Cardiff Bay. I pass their place pretty much every day on the way to work, it's quite bizarre.

Hold up. The only marine in Aliens who isn't named after their actor is Hicks. Also the M56 is dope, according to the Colonial Marines tech manual, the automatic targeting is good enough that most marines turn it off to avoid sending all their rounds through the same hole.

Fun Fact: there's a scene at the beginning (When Ripley is telling the Marines her experience with the xenomorpohs), and the character played by Bill Paxton (Hudson) says: "Somebody said aliens and she thought they said 'illegal aliens. Signed up!'" and everybody laughs.

I had the Rhino Alien toy as a kid, its head was spring loaded. Something to do with when alien specimens were bought to earth by the corporation they thought it would be a jolly good idea to splice its genome with as many of out native fauna as possible. Until it went horrifically wrong obvs. Plus side though was that there was a Gorilla Alien too, its head was made of soft rubber, you could suck up liquid into and fire out to approximate acid...TOYS NOWADAYS ARE SHIT IN COMPARISON!
